  • Brand new Ford F150 EcoBoost Vs. Ford F150 PowerBoost.
    Let's do this!
    HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!
Hope everybody is keeping well and that you all have a fantastic 2023!
We wanted to run this race ever since we got our hands on the 2021 PowerBoost last year - mainly because, in 2021 Ford increased the engine output of the 3.5L EcoBoost engines from 375Hp and 470Tq to 400Hp and 500Tq.
So we didn't want to get an older EcoBoost out there because we knew the PowerBoost would beat it pretty easily. And thankfully, we were blessed to be able to find a brand new 2022 F-150 EcoBoost with the 3.5L Engine so we set up a race as soon as we could!
As far as power to weight goes, the PowerBoost is heavier but makes more Hp and Tq, and the EcoBoost is lighter but makes less power. So the Power to weight ratios end up being very similar on paper.
As usual with our races though, on paper really doesn't mean much when the rubber meets the road. Safe to say we were both surprised at how much the PowerBoost won by, as we thought it would be a much closer race than it was.
Either way though, we had a blast filming the race and the whole idea of the Ordinary Drag Racing series is to find out how these types of vehicles actually perform out on the 1/4 mile.
Thanks so much for watching and God Bless!

Yeah they sure have gone up in price, no doubt about that.
That said though they are definitely capable trucks and the EcoBoost engine’s have been worked on over the years to help them become more reliable as well.
Personally we’d both prefer a V8 but the 3.5 EcoBoost engines are very good platforms

How did you get these trucks over 160 km/hr. My power boost maxes out at 156 km/hr. My truck is a 2023 Lariat. Great video though and love the power my powerboost has as well. Living out in BC the truck is a torque monster and can climb the big hills in top gear without effort.

That’s very interesting.. wonder why the limiter on your truck would be different - we’re in Canada too. Both trucks in this video live in Ontario.
Not sure what the EcoBoost topped out at, we didn’t test that. But the PowerBoost governed out at 171km/h
Agreed about the power that these trucks have though. Tons of torque and they also do very well top end too!

Yes the 5.0 V8 is still available as well as the 2.7L Ecoboost V-6 and the naturally aspirated 3.3L V-6. Would have loved for both trucks to had the same rear gear or swapped. That could have been the difference in a completely even race.

@@BamaTidefan1967 Yeah we mentioned the same thing about the rear ends in the video. It’s way easier said than done, being that we literally have to borrow each vehicle we race (at this point). We were pumped just to be able to get both of these brand new trucks out to the track.
And as also mentioned in the video, if we can find trucks with the same rear end, we’ll try and line them up as well.

The powerboost has stock sized rather factory looking street tires on it. The regular Ecoboost truck has taller, heavier A/T tires on it so yes it does make a difference. While I was not expecting the Ecoboost to win, it needed every bit of help it could get.@@alicepooper8562

Needs to have same gear ratio, and tires. If so, it would’ve been closer.

    • @KingdomAuto

Tires in this case won’t make a difference, both setups have the same overall diameter and are factory from Ford + both setups are on 20” wheels.
Getting trucks with the same rear end is far easier said than done, as explained in the video. We do what we can.
