My wrist hurt for YEARS. Finally got it checked out by a doctor and it turns out the pain is caused by ganglion cysts in my wrist. Surgery scheduled this July. I'm gonna use this video for physical therapy during my recovery. Thank you Cathy!
Thank you so much for this detailed instruction video dedicated to strengthening the wrists and protecting them. I have one suggestion, though, to make this type of video great. Please do close up shots when explaining finger pads, knuckle, and wrist positions, eg., 12:45. Watching videos on mobile phones, we can't really grasp finer manipulations of hands that are being shown.
thank you for the feedback, will add more close ups and have been as well as illustrations and graphics in more more recent videos. Hope you like them!
@@CathyMadeoYoga Thanks. Yes, the illustrations and graphics help a great deal. Appreciate the detailed, methodical approach in all your videos. Can I ask you what are the basic accessories one can invest in to get a balanced full body workout with variation as well to keep it interesting?
I come back to this video now and then to remind myself how to properly position and treat my wrists. Thank you so much for providing such valuable information!
Love the weight bearing part analysis! Magical cure for me! I started hand stand training about two months ago and find yours and Gabo’s videos are the most educational ones! Thank you!
6:10 I just tried a few of the exercises this morning and it feels so good! Thank you. I really needed this but I was not searching for a solution. Your video just showed up on my list. 🥰
Great! being provided the why behind a commonly given cue allows me to decide: does that really apply to what I'm struggeling with? And therefore makes it easier to follow the cue, having understood the intention of what exactly shall be fixed by being cued that way. Thank you for taking the time for those "educating" videos.
Definitely helped. I still have some pain but maybe relearning and paying more attention as I continue with my practice will strengthen and eventually it will go away.
at 06:18 you pulled your fingers back. THAT was virtually impossible for me to do. What exercises can increase flexibility there? Or IS that the exercise?
Unless you have some bone/joint health issues, this is something you should aim at being able to do. You are right, this in itself is a warm up stretching excercise 😊.
I like the idea of using the blocks to assist, but on a flow class, it would be hard to do a Chaturanga straight from a Downward Dog... I have a ganglion on my left wrist and I feel like I'm missing out...
O my god i had this awful pain between my point finger and thumb and i tried so many physical therapy techniques and nothing helped. I did this claw technique because i was having discomfort after some downward dog poses and after 3 days i noticed that my hand is no longer in pain. Now i can open doors, unscrew jars and i can use my hand with no discomfort. A pleasant surprised.
I recently got some wooden blocks because my husband does a lot of work with wood and he was able to make me some wood blocks and they are a great addition to my yoga routine. Thank again.
Dear person reading this YOU are beyond perfect to beyond a gazillion times and beyond that and beyond that and beyond that and beyond that and beyond that!😃
Hi! Well my first question would be where in your wrist do you feel pain? I also let to let people know I'm not a doctor so I can't diagnose you, but generally when we have pain on just one side it does indicate an injury or some kind. have you had it checked out?
@@CathyMadeoYoga I don't have seen a doctor because it's not a big pain. During my yoga i just realize for the first time than my right hand feel like this. But i will pay more attention to where my pain come exactly :)
Hi, I have wrist pain in the pinky finger side , I want to strengthen it when i am picking 5 pound weight and making fist for palm facing down wrist curl it hurts, can you explain in such situation we should continue doing it or stop! Dr said it's tfcc injury! And explained me exercise without weights
The problem for me is the arthritis in the base of my thumb. Any ideas for that? I try to dismiss it as just sensation, but it becomes actively painful very quickly
I started Yoga, but I started to get soreness in my hand. The lower part, the thick part under the thumb. And It makes my hands and finger slightly tingle. And its kinda going up to my lower arms. I did alot of down wards dog/ chataranga and put all my weight on my lower hand. Im getting nervous if this is Yoga or something else than manifested out of nowhere from stress. I have health anxiety so now im freaking out now.
I also wish I had searched this before doing my first yoga class and the 20 downward dogs killed me (swore off yoga forever). The instructor never helped me with my form

Can yoga cause swelling around the wrists?

Hi Cathy.
When i put my right hand flat on the ground i feel pain in my wrist but for my left hand it's not the case.
Pls can you tell me why ?

I'd listen to your doctor! Pain signals usually mean stop

Could be a combination but I would take some advice from the video and see if it helps and it you continue to get pain get it checked out by a doc🫶🏽

Some fingers exercises can’t clearly see because video guy hasn’t focused to the fingers 😢
I am facing wrist pain after doing sun salutations, can show the close up of hands how to do the poses at 13:
i thought it was because of my mat 😅
