Esmerelda came before Megara, and I'd say she counts as well. With that said, I agree with your point. Megara is a pretty unique character for a Disney heroine. Unlike most other Disney female leads, Meg is introduced as snarky, sassy, bitter, selfish, jaded, and cynical. A lot of Disney heroines often have dealt with hardships, but they usually remain upbeat, or optimistic, or hopeful, even if it may be a defense mechanism to endure. Meg is different in that after going through her problems, she isn't cheerful, or full of energy, or sanguine. She's very much an emotionally broken individual who is both world-weary, and apprehensive to the idea of pursuing love again. Another aspect that makes Meg stand out is the fact that she's more "experienced" than many other Disney heroines. As in, most Disney heroines experience love for the first time with whoever their love interest in their film is. Meg differs because Hercules is her second love, meaning she already knows the joys of love and romance, but also has endured the sorrows of heartbreak and betrayal. And of course, another way in which separates Meg from most other Disney female leads is that she is introduced as a villain. A sympathetic and tragic figure of a villain, but a villain nonetheless. Hence why her character arc is a redemption arc.
I just realized but why is it that no one ever talks about the part where Hercules is trying to figure out what to call the thing in front of him so as to not offend him and he literally said "Pardon me my good uh..." looked down went ah it's a man looked back up and went "sir!"
