Whoever came up with the idea of making the muses Gospel singers to tell the story of Greek mythology deserved a raise because it worked unexpectedly well. Like designing Aladdin as Tom Cruise in M. C. Hammers clothes...it shouldn't work but it does.
He actually only recorded it that way once, the rest of the time he said "Go ahead young lady" because he felt "You go, girls" wasn't proper. But eventually they managed to talk him into "You go girl" and that was the take they used in the movie.
I love Charlton Heston! I cannot believe I didn't know he was in this till today! What a great voice though; of course he was the choice for opening the serious majestic narration before turning it over to the muses.
It is such a golden move to combine gospel to a story of ancient gods and myths. The musical input in these Disney movies is what turned them into classics.
Not only that its kind of genius Women played a major role in Greek Myth and Religion as Holy Women, the Muses themselves are representations of the Arts, While Gospel music seems odd in this context, Greece was actually a Hot bed for Early Christianity along with Anatolia, Anatolia had a very huge impact on the development of Christianity to the point most of Modern Christianity trace their origin to Nicean Christianity a denomination in Anatolia, Greece later developed then spread Orthadox Christianity, most notably into Eastern Europe, as the Byzantine Empire, the Eastern Romans.
Funny you should mention both characters as the swedish dub of Aladdin and Hercules have the same guy voicing both Genie and Hades, actor and comedian Dan Ekborg. Also in both films, actress Myra Malmberg voices the female lead, Jasmine and Meg respectively (she did Wendy in Peter Pan and later did Andy's mom in Toy Story 3, Ariel in The Little Mermaid 2 and 3 and in an episode of Sophia the First and Osono in Kiki's Delivery Service).
Her performance of "Don't Rain On My Parade" is one of the best performances of ANY Broadway hit EVER, I'd argue. It's special on so many levels especially if you know the context of the role. I encourage you all to look it up, it's here on yt, I play it all the time
Had the pleasure to work with Lillias White on an off broadway show for a few months...she was absolutely killer, the sweetest and most professional person, with one of the GREATEST voices imaginable.
Honestly, a lot of people are talking about the muses, and Meg, and hades, and that's valid because they all did amazing, but I feel like hercules is severely underrated. His voice sounds young, but not in an anoying grating way. He just sounds great!
I love how much the animators put the voice actor into the animations. Meg and her swinging hips, Herc and his innocent nervous energy, Danny Devito’s Danny Devito. It’s almost like motion capture in a way. Like, I look at Elsa, and I see none of Indina Menzel. I’m not talking about because of hair color, but facial expressions and body language. That’s part of acting. And it affects how your voice sounds.
Well Elsa as well as most of the characters in frozen are pretty one dimensional as far as personality goes. I mean the king and queen were pretty awful to lock away and isolate Elsa, and she remains pretty emotionally unscathed, albeit a bit reserved. But they really didn't get the torment of someone locked away and isolated for 15ish years. For what she was put through she was relatively okay. But I'm just saying they could've gone way deeper with the story and their personalities.

Okay, am I the only one who LOVES Adult Herc's voice? Tate Donavan NAILED it. Whenever I watch that movie, I'm ALWAYS surprised that Hercules sounds SO CALM unless he's mad or in battle. Heck, Tate Donovan even NAILED it as the voice of Hercules in the HILARIOUS animated show, and also the video games. I REALLY wish adult Hercules did a musical number, or that the love song in the film, "I Won't Say I'm In Love" was done the same way the love songs in "Lion King 1 and 2" were done. On top of all that, I LOVE how they had Danny Devito voicing Phil. Not only did he NAIL it as Phil, but Danny's HILARIOUS, as was his character, even though Phil starts off in the movie as kind of a jerk. There's one thing I'm wondering, though: Who did the voices of Pegasus and the Titans? That's never been revealed.
I not only miss these 2d animations, I miss when Disney didn’t treat their audience like stupid kids. Kids back then didn’t need bright colors, exaggerated facial expressions and corny storylines… movies back then arguably had “adult” themes like romance, life and death, responsibilities piling up as you grew older etc. those are themes kids should see,
I think the last Disney movie I saw was Moana, but I still thought it was fabulous. Tangled is about abuse, gaslighting (real gaslighting, not what the internet says it is), and realizing that you can't judge people based on their appearance. Princess and the Frog delicately addresses the racism and sexism of the 1920s, and is about how even though hard work is important, you shouldn't sacrifice the people you love for working your whole life away. Pretty relevant to some adults!

Boy bye, you tried it. 🙄 50 years of Disney… 12 princesses… and just ONE of them are black. You do the math and tell me if we’re represented.
@@brianamills6440 cause all the tales Disney took & reinvented where european folk tales. Not African tales!
@@lt.2992 No they aren’t 😒 he included different races of princes and their tales/culture. He just CHOSE to only do 1 per racial group and make the rest all white. So what exactly is stopping him from doing an African tale?
@@lt.2992 I encourage you to research just how the Grimm brothers rewrote stories from all over. A lot of the stories commonly know to be "European" didn't start that way.
I love behind the scenes. Thank you. 💞💖💕
Charlton Heston was such a lad, that voice tempered with cigarettes, gun smoke and whiskey is the kinda voice we all wished our fathers had
Rewatched my favorite Disney movie last week. Love this! Thanks
It’s great seeing this version bc this is my favorite movie
For my Hamilton/Rent/Color purple fans, look at time stamp 6:45 for a special treat. ❤ If the creator reads this, can you tell me what performance that is with Renee as back up singing “I won’t say I’m in love/Zero to hero”? Thank you.
It's from the premiere of the film ua-cam.com/video/LNROE-H-m30/v-deo.html
@@Thomas_H._Smith Great freaking find, my friend!
Half the reason to watch Hercules is for the Muses. The other half is Hades 🤣
I'm not crying, I'm crying with you. 💯💯💯
