Y'all, the new Mufasa and 2019 movies *ARE NOT* canon to the animated storyline. Mufasa and Scar are actual brothers here and Scar’s backstory is not at all like it is in the new movie. I already saw a few comments considering the new stuff to be canon to og storyline
There's a WHOLE "hidden" backstory for Scar that was like only shown in a limited release of story and coloring books or something. And it's considered cannon by most.
God even as a kid I thought Scar was such an icon. Bro gives off serious wine aunt energy, like he'd come to parties, judge everyone, eat the food and leave
I can see it now. He’d low-key insult someone, smile his signature smile, then pretend to delicately eat an appetizer while stuffing the entire plate into his bag I don’t know whether to call your comment a headcanon or a *feeling* but I resonate deeply with it
I love how scar genuine doesn't take anyone else seriously. Man's is 100% done with everyone and everything. Every word he speaks is dripping with sarcasm, cunning, and malice. Such a good villain

Looking back at Scar's scenes, he constantly seems to be improvising and coming up with new lies on the spot. He also goes from passive-aggressive to manipulatively friendly to actually aggressive over the course of the movie.

Honestly, Scar is probably the most iconic Disney villain ever. He's cunning, clever, and manipulative. And on top of all that he has the perfect voice actor ever!

You know, for a scene about scar setting simba up to die by hienas, their dinamic when simba was a baby boy talking to his grumpy and sassy uncle was quite entertaining
Dude tell me about it! The banter is top notch. It kinda makes me want to see a non-evil version of Scar where he gets to be the weird sassy uncle for the whole movie.
There is a Disney game where all characters are based on Disney characters (it's called Twisted Wonderland). The guy based on scar has a non evil but totally sassy behaviour towards his nephew.
It is, but it's also heartbreaking. If Scar hadn't have been so obsessed with overthrowing his brother then he could have loved his little nephew and watched him grow up. Instead he cared more about his own ambitions and tried to have practically his whole family killed and the pridelands destroyed.
This is one of those instances where casting almost carries the character. Without Jeremy Iron's fantastic voice and delivery Scar wouldn't be half as iconic as he currently is
Tbf, Iron's dodged a bullet with not being cast in the 2019 abomination. I just love how this wrong decision of 'lets replace the original cast except Mufasa' basically saved those people a huge embarrassing shit stain on their career record.
The amount of detail put into Scar being done with everyone's sh*t, _especially_ how much personality his voice actor puts into him, is just beautiful.
@@beckyscleanersock8395 ''so that justified betrayal'' Pride rock betrayed him by having live on the outskirts and generally being hostile towards him. he was never aligned with mufasa, It was made very clear from their first interaction that they were not on good terms almost going into a death match cause scar's egotiscal brother wanted him to go to simba's birth ceremony ''gendercide? Too bad they ended up being incompetent rulers. Azula particularly more conformable being second in command material, while her father was born to be a ruler and can outclass his brother by brains and brawn even though Ozai's younger.
I really respect how much "The Lion King" committed to making Scar a complete and total bastard. He was such a vicious and power-hungry lion, and that made him a great villain. Jeremy Irons was also a great bit of casting for Scar, because that man chewed every last inch of scenery.
@@Narration___Nation no mufasa knew if u read the old books called "Tales of Two Brother's" It's about how scar became who he is mainly from abuse from his father and mufasa bullying scar time to time because scar wasn't as much of "strong" leader like mufasa. The books and the movie is both different in my opinion because they give more context about simba and mufasa relationship instead a bit of scars to explain his wickedness.
as much as i love Scar, there's no denying that he turned out to be a tyrant incapable of running an efficient kingdom in the end. his plan was a failure because his rule killed the land and descended the people into famine, which is totally unacceptable considering how intelligent he was. that's the real tragedy, if you ask me.
@@flannelpillowcase6475 Very true! If I recall correctly Scar actively chose to brace the drought instead of migrating elsewhere like the other herds had, out of sheer stubbornness and unwillingness to abandon the place he killed to obtain. Scar might've been very intelligent, but when it came down to it he was unable to reason or adapt and stuck solely to his own self-preserving principles, ultimately only interested in having authority over everybody and the ability to command them like he did the hyenas with little regard for anybody's wellbeing but his own.
Honestly I like scar and simba’s relationship. If scar wasn’t THAT evil they would be a really great duo, like a young bright&energetic nephew and his dramatic cunning&sassy uncle lol 😂 I would love to see their interaction
@@timetravelingelephants2627 oh yeah ive heard about it before, its a game right? The characters are so interesting, i really love the design of thems. Too bad its only available in japan😅
I ADORE the pure sassiness and expressiveness of his voice and body movement, it adds so much to the character. Even small details show how good this villan was, and the more i grow, the more I see how good his character is portrayed.
Also according to the amount of documentations i’ve Watched. The More Melanin (aka the darker) the lions Maine is, the more sexy Aka mate worthy they are considered especially if they have it on their legs like scar
Just realized that the only time Mufasa called him "brother" with a soft tone was when he asked him to save his life.. before that it was Scar who kept addressing him as "big brother" even if it was sarcastic, but Mufasa was only interacting with him as a king and reminding him that Simba is his future one.. Scar was ignored, humiliated, and isolated in this oh-so-fair kingdom.. his line during the song "to be respected and seen for the wonder I am" just shows how broken he was..
Scar probably got eaten up by his jealousy of Mufasa's role as the king and his weaker condition that he descended into depression and deviousness. Which lead to these events.
its even worse when you know that Mufasa's name in Swahili means...King/Monarch while Scar's real name was Taka, wich means "garbage/waste" in Swahili... He was done dirty even by his parents...
The fact I can qoute his scenes verbatim just proves how memorable of a character he is, Scar will always be in my top three favorite villains in general
I think part of what makes him so lastingly evil as a Disney villain goes is not only that he actually SUCCEEDED, which so few of them do, but that he deeply betrayed a trust in doing so. Simba's childhood scenes with him show that he trusted Scar completely, and that his betrayal kind of fucked him up. That line of at the kind of says a lot, "Why should I believe you? Everything you ever told me was a lie."
Well said. Unlike so many villains, Scar actually succeeds in his evil plan - and we see him stand by his misdeeds regardless of the cost. There is no regret, no remorse - only a snake trying to bend every situation to meet his nefarious goals.
Yeah. Even though I still don't like Scar as much as I like Nala, Simba, Sarabi, and Mufasa, I like him much more as an adult than I ever did as a kid.
parents and society force more and more butterflies and rainbows on children via mass media with every passing generation, trying to make the world into a giant playpen until their kids turn 18 and then somehow are supposed to magically transform into responsible adults. kids aren't learning the dangers of reality through intellectual storytelling anymore, now they're learning it from the internet, in a much more chaotic and deranged format. it's no wonder gen z is so f'd up. the next generation will be even worse, i'd bet money on it.
Imagine an alternate universe, where we get a movie, where Scar is the same character, but not evil. He’s a complete mr. Jerk to everyone, but shows his care for others when needed.
I think it's because as young kids we dislike them for the person they are and what they do, but when we are a teen/adult we like them for their character and personality. Sorry if that was a bad way of describing it (This isn't to say that everyone hated every villain as kids. I love Scar, and I always have)
Yknow if Scar wasn't outright evil and instead just kind of a grumpy old man who wished he was king, I would've wanted to see more interactions between him and simba. They're a pretty funny duo if you ask me Edit: I have no idea wtf you are all going off on in the replies. All I said was that it would've been funny if Scar wasn't evil and now yall are arguing???
the way Scar whispers "I killed Mufasa" send chills down my spine. He's truly an amazing villain, and I hate how the live action butchered him and all his iconic scenes
Not to mention since he looks so realistic that it completely removes the ability to squash and stretch his facial proportions to convey his sinister nature. Thus, he ends up looking like just an ordinary lion with brown fur and a slight scar that isn't intimidating at all.
I miss when villains were like this. Sadistic, dripping with malice and sass, sarcastic, unafraid to express themselves through murdering people without remorse. We need more villains like Scar, Hades, Ursula, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, Frollo, and Gaston.
Not really... the only villain that truly got away completely was the Coachman from Pinocchio. Scar got caught at the end and died the worse death of all slowly eaten alive.
@@nickkorkodylas5005 Not so fun fact about Hyenas: They don't wait for their prey to die before they start eating and they typically start from the flank/intestines/stomach first which isn't instant death.
Hate Hans. Moreso because of how his was written than his character tho. Now watch as I hijack this random UA-cam comment to soapbox this thing. (Terribly sorry SansThe Infinite, but I gotta know if it isn’t just me) IMO Hans was poorly written as a villain, so I was more upset he was *suddenly* a bad guy instead of showing real signs of it at the beginning. I don’t mean the super finite details that everyone who may think he’s a good villain will pick out and dramaticize and say that there were signs all along. If you watch a movie and feel the shock from a betrayal the first time and understand that it was hinted from the start, and then find little details later, great! If you have to watch the movie and look for the details the next time around to see the foreshadowing, it wasn’t enough. Was his betrayal a shock? Absolutely, because I was confused as to where it came from instead of ‘I should have known.’ Because he didn’t even act like a villain, even a bad guy pretending to be a good guy would have steady-paced signs to discreetly plant suspicion, or at least seemingly innocent actions would slot in at the reveal, and while it was revealed that he was trying to take over, none of his actions were much more than what the other potential villains, the soldiers and knights, would have done. But Hans just turned bad instead! He had reason to hide it, but then only showed his bad side while he hunted Elsa, and even then he would still be able to fit into the niche of the guy who’s trying his best but causes conflict with what the main characters want. He even had a better romantic dynamic in the beginning than the one reindeer dude who’s name I didn’t even bother to remember. I just don’t get the seemingly overwhelming majority of folks who believe Hans was a believable and interesting villain when really his character arc just seemed confused. EDIT: I’m not alone thank goodness 😭
I KNOW RIGHT the only reason I can hate Hans for cause of how poorly he was written he saved Elsa for no reason didn't miss Anna for no reason his plan changed in EVERY FUCCKING FRAME
I remember this story from an interview with Mark Hamill. Someone: "Hey Mark, guess what? You're in the running for best animated villain performance (Joker, Batman TAS)!" Mark: "Oh, goody! Who's the competition?" Other: "Jeremy Irons for Scar..." Mark: "that's it, I lose!"
It is true that Mark Hamill played 2 to 3 of the back ground Jokers of a gang called the Jokers in a Batman Beyond movie but that was literally all he ever did with Batman. He was originally going to be in a audition for Beware the Batman but he never showed up and after 8 months of never showing up they got someone else yet he still keeps claiming the blatant lie that he played the Joker and morons like you believe his blatant lies. He never played Scar dear god how much of an insult to intelligence can you spew. It was Jeromy Irons who played Scar not Mark Hammel. Seriously use google for once in our life before spewing anymore of your rancid stupidity.
Well, yep. But, the joker is eternal, he can die he would still come back in a comic book reboot to keep his rivalry with batman. Scar...he died definitely
If scar hadn't said "his little secret" he still would've probably been king, and also since scar would eat first he should have gained a bit if weight and muscle to stand more of a chance to simba
@@velloverse good point, simba was probably 3 years old, i think mufasa may have been 5 or 6 when he died meaning scar would've been 8-9 years old when he fought simba
Two things to note about Scar as Disney’s best villain: 1. He wold be so dangerous as a human in the modern world; with the lengths he’s willing to go to and his manipulative lies. 2. He colors of “Be Prepared” symbolize Scar attributes: green shows his lies, yellow shows his jealousy, and red at the end shows how vicious he is.
Ummm.... how "viscous" (VIS-kus) he is? You mean how resistant to flow he is, like syrup? Or perhaps you mean, how *vicious* (VISH-us) he is, like merciless, ruthless, etc?
@@darchangel2136 ummm anyway yea I agree Robert I think he is the best villain in Disney I feel like all Disney villains song colors show the feelings and emotions of the villains so I agree
I find it interesting that scar is like a leader to the hyenas because lions and hyenas are basically enemies but scar was such an outcast that he got close to enemy and become the "alpha" to them. I'm sure scar stayed with them because he felt more powerful with them then with his own pride
Yea honestly scar is kinda pitiful in a way, if you think about it he was the oldest so he was suppose to be leader, but since his brother was stronger he was deemed the next leader and not scar. And depending on his and his brother age gap it’s even possible he was told he’d be the next king for years until his younger brother came along, from scar song (be prepared) he even said he’d get back for years of denial which means he was most likely always in his brother shadow and denied the appreciation of the pride that he was suppose to lead- he got the short end of the stick really-
Ah yes, when villains had motive, plans and actually pulled them off. Scar, Jafar, Ursula, Dr. Facilier. Villains with that touch of class, sass and diabolical mastery of the vulnerability of others. I still say Scar holds the crown. None of them had that devilish suave energy like him. He LITERALLY was king whenever he spoke.
I miss Disney villains. It's like Facilier and Gothel (who was basically sassy Frollo) were the last time they really tried. I loved Tamatoa but he was just a one-scene guy. And Hans really was terrible- stupid plan, boring villain.
Funny thing is Disney never thought Lion King will be the hit it was and the classic it has become. They didn't even properly support the project either from what I heard so the voice actors had to record their lines all over the place apparently. Disney was actually was invested in Pocahontas and thought that one will be the next money maker. Boy how wrong they were. Not to say Pocahontas is bad but it definitely does not have the big hit classic status Lion King has.
7:32 “run away and never return” whoa, I always thought scar said that loudly and threateningly, but he said it so gently while still staying dramatic and subtly threatening
As a teen, I can finally understand the just pure amount of utter ✨Sass✨ in Scar's voics and body language and I absolutely adore it. It is just- *Chefs kiss*
Fun fact: While not to Mufasa's extent, Scar is quite popular in Latin America(especially in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia) because of his intelligence(not to Mufasa's level but still), wry sense of humor, and his sometimes downright relatable behavior.
I always liked how MCU's Loki and Lion King's Scar are nearly the same character. Sibling to the king. King of Outcasts. Brains over brawn. And the Lord of Sass.
It's funny that with media nowadays people relate more and more to villains, probably because these characters are best written when there's a motive. These 12 minutes show how Scar is written perfectly with dictatorship and how he's that type villain that dramatizes. I still love how nuanced he is written with the perfect balance of villainous traits. I feel like the Disney classics did these really good without really depending on the visuals itself.
I think a lot of people identifying with villains in movies from this era is that most of the heroes fell into the same tropes so if you wanted a character that exhibited characteristics that weren’t as accepted back then, for example Scar’s camp sarcasm and dramatic nature, in your film you had to make them the villain
@@jonasquinn7977 Thank you, Yes, I like that people are becoming more and more open-minded about these things. I think that (UA-cam) media shows that bit of depth without that it is too deep or without any fun. These characters (/characters from movies) probably fit in there too: Cruella de Vil, Aladdin, Hercules, Ariel. Is this trope actually seen nowadays? Somebody?
I think partially the reason why a lot of people resonate with scar and also the same reason why we don't see this as much now is because of queer coding. Oftentimes in the name of censorship and didactic storytelling, heroes become bland, sanctimonious and unrealistic personalities. However, there's a lot of leeway for what you can slip in with villains. Sassy, dramatic man? in a 'hero' that would have been deemed as too gay or un-hero-like but in a villain? It's entertainment without enabling said behaviour. People relate to the more realistic, flawed and colourful characters which occurred in such villains which may explain the surgence of fans. Of course, now we don't often see villains like the old Disney because modern sensitivity checks understandably wouldn't permit it.
Another thing to note that the Morality/Themes of the Lion King when analyzed are somewhat morally objectionable to someone in a modern democratic society: The Lions are an entrenched hereditary paternalistic nobility that rules over a diverse nation of various different species which they predate on. They banished another species of predators to a barren wasteland so they can slowly starve to death, Scar takes advantage of this outcast group under the guise of saving them from starvation in exchange for loyalty. The new leader takes over and God or Nature decides he doesn’t have the divine right of kings and stops the water and plants from growing, and only once the rightful heir comes back and kills the usurper is nature and peace restored. At best it’s Pro-Monarchy BS, at worst it’s Pro-Malthusian Genocide “Oh yes the Hyenas deserve to starve because they are an intellectual and morally inferior species and they simply shouldn’t breed, unlike the noble lions.”
@@InquisitorThomas don’t forget that Lion King 2 showed that Scar had no shortage of supporters that he easily could have promoted to important positions but didn’t and the very first thing that Simba did after coming to power was to banish all of Scar’s supporters and their children

Scar is funny as hell 🤣 The way he just acted like he didn't give a shit when Mufasa got in his face saying "Is that a challenge?" God, that was hilarious.
The best part is that Scar is considered the number one Disney villain. I can see why he was successful in his plans for a long time and he's probably the most likable villain.
Just look at him, the perfect villain, cunning, dramatic, 1000% evil AND irredeemable. Plus he is still (to my knowledge) the only Disney villain to be killed by his own followers and I adore that fact.
@@ElyanaBis yeah but those weren’t his followers, those were the deities he worshipped through voodoo. He is in no way above them, and really him considering himself a friend to them was a ginormous stretch. They are literally deities- he got what he deserved through his religion (and yes voodoo is a religion, Disney just represents the stereotype)
And I think he’s the first gay villain (not conformed) but think about it simba called him weird and he says he “has no idea” and in the years that simba is gone no new Cubs are born and his mannerisms are very much like an old bitter queen. I’m not sayin just sayin something to think about
The live version pissed me off when they cut his song in half, like wtf. Yeah, he's a villain but he's way more fabulous than how they made him seem in the live action.
Despite being awful in his actions, his attitude is pretty freaking relatable. Like, ticked off by evryone, "I'm sourounded by idiots", irritated by older sibling.
Yeah I mean he would be my favorite if he didn't kill mufasa, blame Simba, make him feel guilty and run away just so he could be king. Don't forget him also using his hyenas for his own will and that scene with him and sirabi.
I hate to be *that* guy, but they really don't make movies like this anymore. You can feel the love and passion in the animation, unlike today where you can practically see the apathy run down the screen in some movies
Agreed 100%. The sad thing is though is that with companies being so money hungry nowadays is that handron animation takes more time and usually gets less watches while 3D animation takes less time and makes them a lot of money, so basically quantity (of cash) over quality here, so I don't think Disney will be bringing hand-drawn animation back anytime soon :( but everyday more and more studios are doing that sort of hand drawn mixed with 3D style like the bad guys or spider-verse, so at least we might be getting closer to hand-drawn animation
Regarding lion mating, scientists discovered that the darker the mane of a lion means that it's more likely for a female to mate with him, lighter manes like Mufasa or Simba show bad genes... SCAR IS HOT IN LION TERMS!!!
4 year old was hard core SIMPING for this lion XD, i had a phase with almost every disney villain to be fair, but scar and hades, they shaped me as a person 😂
I swear the dude didn't even need to act his voice, hearing his interview about the (shitty) 2019 remake and if he'd join made me realize his voice IS scar, he barely has to change it, just play with the script. Honestly my favorite VAs are ones where their voice just fits the character by itself and he was my first instance of that.
What works about this version of scar is that he at least tries to be sociable. The people around him view him as a prick that's hard to work with, but tolerable enough to keep around. He actively tries to ingratiate with Simba to prove how nice he is and worm his way to the root of the kingdom. The remake scar is a bitter and openly violent being that no one would realistically trust period, let alone with their life or children.
Plus it does the good guys a disservice by making them look stupid. In the original, everyone's trust towards Scar (especially Simba's) is both believable and kinda sad.
@@errortryagainlater4240 Yup, it was all pure manipulation tactics that everyone didn’t see and after Mufasa died Scar didn’t have to hide his toxic behavior (Although he was cool asf when it was in subtle amounts)
Props to the animators and voice actors. The personality is shown not only in the designs but in the way they move. Mufasa is steady and sure, while scar is a bit flexible curvy. It reflects their characters perfectly. And don't even get me started on the lip synching! Thnx for the likes. This is the most I've ever gotten.
I think my favourite thing about Scar is that for all his talk of getting "the shallow end of the gene pool", when he was backed into a corner he still chose to throw down instead of run. Sure he didn't fight fair, but why would he? He was born smaller than Mufasa (and Simba when he grew up). Therefore any normal one on one fight is unfair by default. He uses his brain to tip the odds.

@@slayking2378Its more complicated than that I think. As a kid I didn't appreciate scar like I can now as an adult. He tried to govern, essentially, with socialism. He accepted all of the hyena refuges from the barren wasteland they were banished to where they barely had enough food to survive. It made the pridelands a darker place to live, sure, but there was definitely more equality. Possibly he did that because, as a fellow "commoner" and someone who spent a great deal of time with the hyenas, he might have better understood their plight. And he, too, was chronically alienated by his brother, so they had a common enemy. Scar is a very deep & realistic villain. Most villains throughout human history have been idealists who thought they could make the world a better place, and were comfortable breaking a few eggs to make the omelette. In the end, Scars new world may have actually worked out. With less food and resources, the other animals would have bred less, and eventually nature would have righted herself with the hyenas included. Instead, Simba overthrows him, and then in Lion King 2, seems to essentially arrive at the same conclusion to invite the outsiders in. We just don't end up seeing the aftermath of that.
They do still make movies like this, you're not looking hard enough. Like really. Just last year we got Encanto, different vibes and such but it's quality is on the same level as this. Now come on, stop acting like a boomer.
@@poppythedogofwonderswho knows maybe it is the same quality but I just really don't like the 3D movies to me it just feels cheap I wish they did more hand drawn movies
@@poppythedogofwonders Encanto was super great, although it's much overhyped. Animation is beautiful and story was too, but it was like a first step to good movies and the story wasn't much different just the setting. It's the one of the first (with Moana etc) movies to good again for Disney, but they can definitely learn and make them better rather capitalise and burn out franchise again
Fun fact: I read that in real life thanks to his mane color, Scar would actually be the true king of the Pride Lands. Edit: I think I got part of it wrong and I'm sorry. Edit 2: Thanks to everyone who corrected me. I think I may have jumped to quickly to conclusions when I wrote this comment
Well…mane color isn’t really the parameters for social dominance in a lion pride. It’s physicality and whether or not they can beat out the competition. They even reference it in the movie. Scar says “when it comes to brute strength, I’m afraid I’m at the shallow end of the gene pool”. Lions replace weaker older lions for dominance and lions kill off the Cubs of other lions, to maintain dominance. So whatever you’ve read is wrong. It’s not a fact, in fact it’s not much of a fact at all.
@@henrylivingstone2971 what they're referring to most likely is that male lions with darker manes are typically signs of dominance in real life lions. They usually exhibit more dominant traits including fighting prowess. Might be due to more testosterone. So irl scar would've most likely been stronger and dominant than males with lighter manes. Ofc this isnt the case in a Disney movie because his appearance is a product of character design not biology lol. But yes you're correct about driving out other males and killing cubs(interesting cuz thats what Scar almost succeeded at )
@@henrylivingstone2971 It’s a case that a lion with a darker mane is considered to be more attractive, and since Scar’s is completely black, he’d be considered a supermodel by lion standards. But if we wanted it to be realistic, brothers often co-lead a pride, so there wouldn’t be much enmity between Scar and Mufasa. If we instead change it so they’re actually not brothers at all and that Scar and Mufasa are unrelated, the first thing Scar would have done after killing Mufasa would be to eat Simba. If those can be set aside for the sake of a better movie, I think I can forgive them for not getting the relative attractiveness of the characters right
“If I’m gonna be king, what does that make you?” “A monkey’s uncle.” I just know that if Scar wasn’t the villain he’d be the sarcastic, dry-humorous uncle who helps Simba get through the movie without getting killed.
Imma try to get into the animation industry and continue the animated series, I hope there’s an audience for it
There's a WHOLE "hidden" backstory for Scar that was like only shown in a limited release of story and coloring books or something. And it's considered cannon by most.

Without Jeremy Iron's fantastic voice and delivery Scar wouldn't be half as iconic as he currently is
A lesson Favreau learned the hard way.
Well the closest would have been Jim Cummings since who was the singing voice of Scar for the last few lines of Be Prepared.

It's a fact at this point you cannot hate Disney villains. Except for Hans of course. Scar is the top 5
Hate Hans. Moreso because of how his was written than his character tho. Now watch as I hijack this random UA-cam comment to soapbox this thing. (Terribly sorry SansThe Infinite, but I gotta know if it isn’t just me)
IMO Hans was poorly written as a villain, so I was more upset he was *suddenly* a bad guy instead of showing real signs of it at the beginning.

I find it interesting that scar is like a leader to the hyenas because lions and hyenas are basically enemies but scar was such an outcast that he got close to enemy and become the "alpha" to them. I'm sure scar stayed with them because he felt more powerful with them then with his own pride
There is a phrase from Robert green in his books where he say to reduce your envy sometimes associate with the less ones

His sassy and sarcasm makes him so charismatic as a villain.

Honestly my favorite VAs are ones where their voice just fits the character by itself and he was my first instance of that.
I wish that he also voiced Falkor
What works about this version of scar is that he at least tries to be sociable. The people around him view him as a prick that's hard to work with, but tolerable enough to keep around. He actively tries to ingratiate with Simba to prove how nice he is and worm his way to the root of the kingdom. The remake scar is a bitter and openly violent being that no one would realistically trust period, let alone with their life or children.
Exactly, that’s why I like the classic lion king instead of the bullshit live action remake 😗
Plus it does the good guys a disservice by making them look stupid. In the original, everyone's trust towards Scar (especially Simba's) is both believable and kinda sad.
@@errortryagainlater4240 Yup, it was all pure manipulation tactics that everyone didn’t see and after Mufasa died Scar didn’t have to hide his toxic behavior
(Although he was cool asf when it was in subtle amounts)
Props to the animators and voice actors. The personality is shown not only in the designs but in the way they move. Mufasa is steady and sure, while scar is a bit flexible curvy. It reflects their characters perfectly. And don't even get me started on the lip synching!
Thnx for the likes. This is the most I've ever gotten.
That's the standard of quality for old animations for you.
@@tehrik0020 oh how i miss old animations :(
The part where he's says YOU WONT GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME hurt Jeremy Iron's vocal cords so much, someone else had to finish the song for him
Isn't the voice acting done after the animation? If so that's even more impressive.
@@zombei_kid I can't even distinguish the voices :0
I think my favourite thing about Scar is that for all his talk of getting "the shallow end of the gene pool", when he was backed into a corner he still chose to throw down instead of run.
Sure he didn't fight fair, but why would he? He was born smaller than Mufasa (and Simba when he grew up). Therefore any normal one on one fight is unfair by default. He uses his brain to tip the odds.

True but scar is a manipulator and was a bad king by letting his people starve. His brother was a better king
Funny thing is that he held his own pretty well against Simba, and he could have won if Simba didn't use Nala's move on him.
2:39 BRO I CANT FORGIVE THE FACT HE SAID MONKEYS UNCLE😭😭
I don't get it
"your so weird"
"You have no idea" that has to be my favorite line and I wish they still made movies like this instead of this weird 3D CGI crap
They do still make movies like this, you're not looking hard enough. Like really. Just last year we got Encanto, different vibes and such but it's quality is on the same level as this.
Now come on, stop acting like a boomer.
@@poppythedogofwonders i think they mean a hand drawn movie.
@@moony3335 yeah that's what I meant
@@poppythedogofwonderswho knows maybe it is the same quality but I just really don't like the 3D movies to me it just feels cheap I wish they did more hand drawn movies
@@poppythedogofwonders Encanto was super great, although it's much overhyped. Animation is beautiful and story was too, but it was like a first step to good movies and the story wasn't much different just the setting. It's the one of the first (with Moana etc) movies to good again for Disney, but they can definitely learn and make them better rather capitalise and burn out franchise again
If he wasn’t hot *ahem* I mean evil. He wldve been the best uncle ever.
Lol! Love him for his beauty.
why are you so weird
Eww, he is an animal. In the musical from the Lion King, it was said that Scar starved himself to feed the hyenas. He is very weak indeed.
@@lagopusvulpuz1571 Welcome to the internet buddy. Furries are everywhere
@@lagopusvulpuz1571 bro its a cartoon. Nobody would simp for an actual lion, it's just the way he's been drawn thats attractive.
But yes you're correct about driving out other males and killing cubs(interesting cuz thats what Scar almost succeeded at )
@@paintbrush3554 yup. That's about it
-John Favreau, probably
@@henrylivingstone2971 It’s a case that a lion with a darker mane is considered to be more attractive, and since Scar’s is completely black, he’d be considered a supermodel by lion standards.
But if we wanted it to be realistic, brothers often co-lead a pride, so there wouldn’t be much enmity between Scar and Mufasa. If we instead change it so they’re actually not brothers at all and that Scar and Mufasa are unrelated, the first thing Scar would have done after killing Mufasa would be to eat Simba. If those can be set aside for the sake of a better movie, I think I can forgive them for not getting the relative attractiveness of the characters right
“If I’m gonna be king, what does that make you?”
“A monkey’s uncle.”
I just know that if Scar wasn’t the villain he’d be the sarcastic, dry-humorous uncle who helps Simba get through the movie without getting killed.
