Good video mate ! Learnt about continuity testing the frame !
How are the grips holding up? Have heard need more insulation off the bars to prevent heat loss
the similar ones ive seen are meant to go on the grip itself, how are these so far?
Just picked up a similar set of these heated wrap type grips, I think I may test mine (prior to installing them) to see how hot they get under the grip or over the grip. If they get fairly warm over the grip on low than I can run more heated pants and jackets and save on output watts....I've seen them installed both ways. I agree with you on the cheap ebay or amazon reviews being so all over the place. I think a lot of the reviewers are probably not installing correctly and it's more installer fault than faulty product. I am going to wire in a inline fuse and a relay. I see it's only been 1 month so far but how are they holding up?
Well full on winter hit here and so the DRZ has been sleeping quietly for the last month. I used them 1/2 a dozen times last fall before laying the bike up and they worked well-ish. High Setting is a little too high and low was a little too low for my tastes but that's subjective and ambient temp dependent. It really wasn't a huge deal to dance between the two settings to keep things comfortable. They will see a real work out this spring when the DRZ goes back into action. Ill do a follow-up video in a few months after I can use them more. Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait for the follow-up on these, I really enjoyed the detailed explanation of the process and choosing the power feed and fusing them. After watching this I feel like I could probably do this project so huge thanks. Did you consider using a relay and maybe a cheap Amazon 2 or four fuse power block and taking the power directly from the battery or just taking the power directly from the battery without a fuse block, or am I over thinking this, not sure how much amperage these types of items pull?
I touch on his in an upcoming mini series on the DRZ winter 2022/2023 refresh project. Stay Tuned! Spoiler alert tho.... they are kind of a waste of money.....
I did not use a relay on these they are designed to be hooked directly to the battery with an inline fuse and switch but in the future I would run a fuse and relay.
hey so how are holding up now and would u recommend them if someone wants grip style that doesnt come in a heated grip flaviour
At this time they are not working. Should be an upcoming vid finding out what went wrong.
@@trailtrashgarage ahh i see awesome hear
Also where can We get/ buy some trail trash ADV helmet stickers / bike stickers/ tool box stickers?
Colin should be able to dig up a link to our merch store but we do some limited run stickers and hoodies / hats from time to time. Ill let him know and put you in touch and see if we can get something sent out.
How is the left hand side working now? Would you do it again without the heat shrink over it? I've just picked a set up but may order oxford adventure instead
They are dead. Water got in the switch on a trip over the summer and shorted everything out. I think I may try again and yes I think I will leave the shrink off. Ill secure them with a minimal amount of electrical tape and relay on the grip to keep them in place. I also now have an upgraded and waterproof switch.
@@trailtrashgarage I bought oxford adventure heated grips best out there £54
@@skypool100 yes they work great but it requires you to use their grip and when they wear out your done. On a bike that sees trail use it’s nice to use an MX style grip and being able to change them often without disturbing the heated element was the point. Oh and the price. ;)
Can these work on a snowblowers Stader?
Hmm if its a 12v DC system theoretically yes but I'm not sure how much juice your Snowblower stator would put out. Many small engines run a AC based system.
I’ve already installed them. I added LEDS with a bridge rectifier and bypassed the halogen to free up more juice. They work perfectly!
@@demetriosa7646 awesome!
So, they aren't worth the stress & or the stabbing? Do the Rocky Mountain last longer? Such a shame, everything is so expensive now days that there's no way around to save some bucks... Seems that I'll keep using my 3D cartoon cat paws oven mitts...
No they really are not. I wonder if the Rocky Mtn ATV ones are any different? I've seen some installation instructions that say they are supposed to go "over" the grip not under nit sure if this would help in longevity but I don't relish the thought of gripping shrink wrap on my DRZ over a good pro grip. Stay tuned for a follow-up video on a tear down and diagnosis on what went wrong. In anycase for the non mechanically inclined stay away from these all together for the experienced DiYer we might try a set of these again and "beef" them up prior to installation!
Turning in a timelapse us bad luck i think.
Swearing ensued!! What is that tool you used to remove the wire? Link would be good.
Why Swearing? Here is a link to the Terminal Ejector kit I think you're referring to...
