    Nice, tidy install. Well done! I like that you went with the pins.
    When I put a set like this on my XR650L dual sport, I stuffed some fiberglass insulation inside the clutch side of the bars and then wrapped a layer of electrical tape before putting the sticky guy on. That seemed to help retain the heat rather than the rest of the bars just drawing it all away. It felt much more even with the throttle side.

    I've had those on several bikes and it's one of the first mods I make when I get a bike. They perform flawlessly and are a must for cold weather riding. I even have a pair on my snowblower!

    TIP: Use a piece of heat shrink tube on the bars on the clutch side. This reduces the “heat sink” effect of the handlebars absorbing a lot of the heat. I’ve been using the heat shrink since 1995.

      @@adamrossstone In addition. The aluminum on your handlebars is a much better conductor that your rubber grips, so this is help to reduce the heat sink to the bar instead of going into your grip. I also put aluminum tape to reflect heat back up into grip

      @@SwankyCatProductionsbased on your expertise do you think I could retrofit these for my snowblower. My handles are continuous design so I can buy actual heated grips that slide over. Basically could my stater on my blower power these up. I already have a existing headlight

    i installed these on my TW but i added a fused circuit on a relay connected to keyed ignition and replaced that janky switch that Tusk includes with the kit

    Never heard anyone say bad things about heated grips. I got them on my bike and l think they work well.

      Haha thanks man! I really appreciate it! I hope they serve you well. Make sure to do 4 or so wraps of electrical tape on the clutch side bar to keep the heat from sinking into your cold bar!

    What if you used a 15watt resistor instead of the 10watt?? Would that give the low side of the switch a little more juice to make the grips warmer but still not as hot as the full high heat setting?

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  7 місяців тому +1

      I've actually contemplated that as well. I would think that would up the heat a bit?

    It would be hard to convince me to use anything other than Oxford heated grips having used them on my KLR for 5 years and I'm KLR cheap.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  2 роки тому +2

      Sounds like a lot of people really like them. Probably what I'd go with if these weren't available or if I didn't want to mess with the additional wiring.

      @@SwankyCatProductions I thought you had them on your old KLR but I went back and didn't see them installed. No heated grips on your old KLR? These are a must in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to enjoy any amount of the short season.

      I have been an oxford fan for years now. No issues except with my last install on a ktm690. Disclaimer, it may be my fault but i had them stop working due to a bad connection within the plastic connector. I have put it back in and taped it several times now but still not 100% reliable. I feel like they may have gotten cheap on the connectors in later years or Ive damaged it due to my hanging the Lynx fairing on said cables. Either way the connectors are not super heavy duty.

    I used heated grips on one bike in Upstate NY. Since then I have been using heated gloves.
    While it's annoying to charge the batteries, I like that gloves warm more uniformly.
    At this price though, I think I will install set, it will not hurt to have more heat. - Frank
