  • What else is there to do when your instrument cluster blinds you in sunlight? Perform a color change of course!

I've had these black cluster gauges sitting in my toolbox for years now. Procrastination can only take you so far though. So took advantage of a nice day and got down to business.
The work is performed on a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The process discussed should directly apply to Ford Rangers and Explorers of the same generation.

I was needing to get the the instrument panel to replace bulbs. This was BY FAR the best video in showing the process of getting the panel off. Thank you very much for your work.

Changed mine out after watching the video. Love the look of the black verse white gauges. Left the shifter as white with black writing and it looks awesome. Thank You so much for posting the video.

Helpful video! Would you have to go through all those steps just to get at cleaning the inside of the cluster cover? Mine is quite dirty and I was hoping for a simple way to pop the cover off and clean it without all this disassembly.

How well is your double stick tape holding up? What brand did you use?

I used Duck Tape branded double sided tape. No issues so far. The tan plastic trim over top of the gauges also does a good job of clamping everything together.

Great video man! Could you show how to remove the front seats? Do you think the seat from a ranger can be used for the 2002 ford explorer sport trac? Just like with the clusters?

The body mount replacement video on this channel shows how to remove the front seats. You would have to check the brackets on the Ranger seats to see if they are similar to the Sport Trac.

A cluster from a Ranger should fit, but the miles won't be accurate.

So I guess you could just do the same thing for the climate control panel as well huh? I'd rather do this then install the vinyl stickers.

Was the speedometer difficult to calibrate since you had to take the needle off? Please let me know, thanks!

It's a bit clunky. The way I did it was not safe. I had the cluster loose but connected up and drove up to 40mph based off GPS, then pressed the needle on to the shaft while driving.
