My Dad was a lifetime carpenter born in Wyoming and moved to NH with my mom in 86 when she was pregnant with my sister. When you said you were using your Dad's tools and using your own ingenuity to figure it out just like your Dad I felt that. I feel that every time I'm working on a project and using his old tools, and I hear him trying to guide me. We are always surrounded by our loved ones that have passed, and sometimes more than we like. lol. Love to you, Boss.

Love to see something useful emerge from a "bag of tricks". Every workshop needs such a bag. And a bunch of different sized defunct inner tubes - from racing bicycle to tractor. Makes gaskets, rubber bands, flexible pipe connectors or emergency pipe repair, flaps, seals, dampers, mini pond liners (tractor tubes), repair patches... Turning junk into treasure is half the joy of making.

@@thebossoftheswamp I was going to comment on your ledger system, but somehow it got lost in the editing. Really love the idea and took note during the video you made about it and will apply it to my gazillion bags of tricks when I reorganise things in the near future.

No kidding, I had to watch your video again, this time with my husband... I actually felt bad that I've watched you without him. You are a fantastic family event😀!
The handle that you find at minute 6:10 is from an air fryer rotating basket. With it, I can lift out of the air fryer basket without getting burned.
Also, it was super funny to see you going through your book to find the PJ 38 things...
    Worked like a charm.
I got lucky to have a handy father who was making me fix things ( a few decades ago) just so I know how to do it (in case I'd have an unskilled husband🤯).
Also, my grandmother from my mother side was very gifted, creative, a great human being who learned all from the struggles of her life, and she passed on to me all her wisdom.
Now I'm fortunate to be handy myself and also to have a handy husband.
Thanks for passing on us your wisdom, and maybe, one day, I'll do the same for someone else 😊 🙂 ☺️ ❤️ 😀 😄 😊 🙂 ☺️ ❤️.
If everyone does this, the planet will be a perfect place.
    Stay strong, healthy, and happy!

J.C long time no speak. It is great to see you to continue pursuing your dreams. Plan it, do it!! I am in the thick of currently building 5 homes in N.C. 1 for my family. At almost 62 it doesn't get easier, but God blessed me with the capability to do it and enjoy it. Can't wait to finally get out to my N.C getaway on the river next weekend. The mice will get evicted, but hey that had a good winter's lodge.

Your Dad sounds alot like mine, JC. He was THAT person who COULD make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. That talent was not passed down by genetics, but I am getting better.
I let my 2 older brothers keep all of Dad's tools, so I don't have any. However, I have bought many tools at yard sales and thrift stores. I still think of him when I use them.
I smile at all of your videos but the ones with the bushcamp just warm the heart a little more.
Blessings to all, Boss. (snowing in N. NV now too)

I love creative ways to cook! My kitchen has a propane stove and my canning kitchen has a 3-burner camp style propane stove, which is large enough for my canners. I cook on my wood stove, which sits in the living room, during the winter. I have a cast iron rack plus cast iron pans to cook over an open fire on the edge of our outdoor firepit. I love having a plan A, B, C and D just in case. My wood stove experience came from my dad since I grew up with a wood stove as our only source of heat and for heating water. My gardening experience, along with canning and root cellaring, came from my great grandmother. She lived with us until she passed when I was 12 years old. One of my grandmothers showed me how to sew everything, including all of my own clothes and how to reupholster my furniture. My other grandmother showed me how to crochet. I learned wood working from my dad and my uncle. I have built my cabinets and most of my furniture. Faith in God and having the skills to do so many things is a great legacy to leave to the next generation. Now, I am teaching my children and grandchildren these skills. If we don't teach these skills, they will be gone when we are. I can tell you that I will never looking for a cry room when the crap hits the fan!
Your dad sounds like a wonderful man! Thank you for passing those skills on to us!

    Hi Boss,
Just like you I save those racks every time I find them.
When my gas oven died I dismantled it. I kept the steel outer shell as it was good stainless steel. I used some fashion a door on the grill housing and that is now a barbecue oven with a pizza stone. I trimmed one of the racks to fit inside my multi fuel stove. My good lady usees it to bake potatoes. Last night I came home and she had foil wrapped a gammon joint and cooked it in the fire!! Amazing lady.
We are in the middle of refurbishing our canal boat home so sort of camping in it! 🙄 Connecting up the gas line and getting a new stove with oven is in our VERY near future. For now we have a two burner & grill.
A major set back was BOTH alternators giving up. Now ot looks like the water pump has gone. The navigation authority are not best pleased as we have been here 7/8 weeks. We were iced in for two. But the rules say 14 days and we had extensions on our extensions! 🤪
However, we keep on keeping on. 5 more months down here and we head further north to Birmingham.
Life is good! Stay well my friend.

Sorry to hear about the setbacks We're suffering our own at the moment. Lori fell off a stepladder and then tumbled down the entire flight of stairs and sustained a shattered wrist and many other injuries in the process. We are back at the cabin now but she'll be going back to the hospital. Living up here with ATV access makes it tough when stuff like this happens.

Great job! I made something similar using an old stainless steel laundry tub on its side that I put in front of our wood burner. It has a pizza oven thermometer inserted in the plug hole. Works a treat but I found that as it’s so open, I had to put a piece of tinfoil across the top edge to make the opening a bit smaller and trap the heat a bit longer. So far, I’ve only done a slow cooked casserole but I was very happy with the result. 😊

I've never tried cooking like that on a campfire. I like your ingenuity and it is the perfect oven. I can see lots of things being cooked in that. Thanks for the idea. Looks like a project for me to try.

What a great project Bossman. You are teaching us more ways to improvise...and that's a good thing. I have bins of 'something' that I might use for 'something' too. You just never know how you might be able to repurpose stuff to make 'something' new. I always look for those grill grates at thrift stores/yard sales. They make nice critter barriers for the top of my garden pots, and as grill grates for cooking over a fire. Thanks for a nice visit. Many blessings to you and Lori and Tildy. :>)

I have quite a collection of grates and grills and this week I made a big score at the dump on cookware. No cast iron but stainless steel of all sizes. Yessah :-))

I totally loved the reflector oven project. I plan on sharing this idea with my kids! They are totally in to making do with what you have too.

I broke anti swing bracket on my lawn tractormower deck. Finally after 30 years in junk an old fridge holder bracket came in useful. I see a lot of broadheads in that pile of metal Boss. Jay Massey liked lawn mower blades for his. First thing I thought needs butter. Mom used to say: Great men think alike but fools seldom differ. 😂
