quick question: How does the R3 handle the interstate? I'm thinking about getting one and just wanted to know if it can handle going 75-85 mph for 3 1/2 hours every 5 or so days.

+Joker416YT I ride mine fast, and it never gets hot. i ride it for hours at a time. There is places I can ride at 80 plus miles an hour almost constantly, and it is fine. I should say I add stuff to my bike. i have a power commander, geared it down slightly, and put on a m4 Street slayer

I have rode motorcycles for over 20 years and have had motorcycles of many sizes including supersports, cruisers, and have ridden Harleys. My point is that I drive the r3 for its capabilities fast like all the time, and it never has issues. I ride it hard, and just for fun, and it never even gets warm. I have had really fast bikes in the past, but, I don't mean it bad but attitudes like this are what get new people killed or scared away from the sport because of the ridicule of little bikes, so they ride a bike too fast for them and either get killed or scared off. Which is terrible for them, but also bad for us cuz the less people that buy and ride bikes, the less options and more expensive they will be. That said, all my many bikes have been fun, especially my dirt bikes and sport bikes, but the really fast ones have often only been used to half their ability anyways, and had way less miles on them because they weren't comfortable
you're right, i have an r3 myself and usually i have no problem keeping up with my mates who have 1000's and 600's. the difference is though when i am catching up with them, they'll probably be on 3rd gear around 7k rmp for e.g. while i'll be at 6th gear sitting on 10k rpm lol. but damn its fun to thrash the r3 at high rpms.

Small bikes can be far more fun than the big bikes as they don't need to be muscled into the corners. The secret to fast is momentum and its amazing how close lap times can be. You may have good reason but your line was wasting half your side of the road and still didn't need to get your knee down.

Yep brings up the age old question. Which is more fun? Driving a slow car fast or a fast car slow?

Ultimately in a perfect world, driving a fast car fast would be the best, but with shit to consider like traffic, animals, crappy road surfaces, caning a slower vehicle is rewarding to me. I've never had the pleasure of driving a supercar, or riding a superbike, but I enjoy driving and riding every vehicle I've owned because driving/riding is itself the pleasure! Currently I drive a Mitsi 1.9 turbo diesel and ride a Bandit 1200 and neither are outright fast compared to other vehicles but I cane them both when I'm in the mood and I have a blast doing it!
Besides which, past a certain point, say 90mph on country roads, you have to be exponentially more brave/stupid, and skilled at car/bike control and especially road reading to get more performance that realistically, if you consider 90 to 100mph to be a real world speed, it's more fun to cane a slower vehicle to near that point, than pootle around in something that's not even outta 2nd gear at 90mph! My opinion, and no I'm not bitter or a pussy, I just love driving and riding, on a budget, in the real world.

Been riding bikes for 30 years. 600 and 1000's are a blast. As you get older you realize that the performance offered is pointless. You will never use anywhere near the limits that bike can do. It is far more fun to ring out a 300. Being able to use all the gears and hit the redline is much more fun than having to shut it down half way through 2nd gear. The R3 is one hell of a bike. If only the 300's had dual front disc.

Thinking of getting an R3, Regarding so called small bikes, Riding aggressively using all your small bikes resources is much more fun than modulating the power of a big bike on small roads or in towns. Yes you're going slower, but it feels faster. I Grew up riding larger bikes 650cc Triumphs when they were the fastest thing on the road, currently at age 70 riding a Kawasaki (BAJAJ/KTM) 200NS. Tuned and tweaked, in the city it is just a blast and on twisty mountain roads you can have a lot of fun and not risk high speed mistakes on gravel, and other obstacles. 300-400cc bikes are really all you need to have fun and tune your skills daily. You won't get bored if you ride well.

As a ninja 300 rider, I totally agree with your assessment of the class. I keep up with my buddies on CBR600's, Ninja 750's, and Ninja 650's on spirited rides. Mind you, they can disappear in a long straight but they'd be pushing well over 120 doing that. Lol.

I'm going to get a 300 class bike for my first regardless of what people say. R3 is my number one choice and part of the reason is for lower insurance costs

Who cares what anyone says its what you enjoy and can afford, I have a 2007 GS500F that i ride daily, Its not breaking land speed records but it gets me everywhere I wanna go, Is cheap to fix and insure and looks pretty good. I have put 75000 km on her with almost no issues.
The R3 would shine more on the real tight twisties vs 600cc and larger displacement bikes.
I have the same exact bike as you, and so far I love my R3. I used to have a 600cc and on the streets I can tell you in a straight line you will be blown away all day long, but in a spirited curvy ride you wont have any problems riding with the big boys.

Yammie Nood, great video mate, glad you enjoyed riding with a group of other riders, but, always remember thou, whilst riding with other riders on bigger bikes to know your limits as you'll be the one trying to stay with them being your on the smaller cc bike, never take any chances or get sucked into doing any overtakes or even pushed to do higher speeds just to stay with them, if you know the group your riding with they're wait for you if you drop to far back, "golden rule of biking" only ride as fast as you have it under control, and never let ambition outweigh your talent, "sorry to sound like a DAD telling his son on how to ride a bike" but that's what us bikers do for each other, give advise to other new bikers that are trying out new biking experiences, good luck to ya and stay and ride safe Yammie Nood...... peace out from the UK ......
Your welcome Yammie Nood, I've seen you've moved on from the Yam R3 and bought yourself a Triumph Daytona, nice bike it is too, but must say, wait until you get yourself a 1 litre bike if your liking the Daytona's power, I'm not long back on bikes myself "just over a year now", started with a Yam TDM 850 twin, then bought a Kaw zx6r which I thought was a very fast bike until my mate let me have a go on his R1 04 model, "wow" never have I felt power like the R1 has, it's just like you said about your Daytona, you just can't help but want to go fast all of the time, "loved his R1's power that much" I now own a CBR 1100 BlackBird, "I love to tour", the CBR's power is insane to say the least, heavy thou, but a very powerful bike, fun also to ride, but anyway, l look forward to seeing a vid if you ever do decide to make the next jump up to a 1 litre bike....ride safe.... 4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul.... peace out bro...

Yea even no it wasnt to me that is very good advice. Ive wrecked 2 bikes bc know one tought me to ride i just did it on my own illegally no license or motorcycle course just rode. After i wrecked the second bike i havent been on a bike in a few years. Im kinda scared to be honest but i want to to concur that. This time im going to do it all legal go to the school and get my m1 and a smaller bike

Great ride video! Riding one of my small bikes is a blast because you can be flat-out more. . . It feels good to be able to work the bike harder to its potential rather than having to keep it down on the big power bikes.

Great video! In my opinion R3's are perfect (as well as Ninja 300's) for most street riding. Speed on the street is super fun (I ride like a hooligan up the mountain roads near me more than I should, lol) but it's also dangerous. Track days are awesome because you can ride at near 100% of your ability without worrying about some minivan crossing your path or some gravel in the road that fell out of a cement truck or things like that. The only thing I like bigger bikes for is highway riding. Riding up over the mountains to California, the little engines have a hard time keeping up or passing at 9000' altitude.
i just got this in my recommended after 6 years. "keeping up with the big boys" - the 600s straight up pulling away from him and passing effortlessly, the car passing was going by so damn slow. For the beginners out there, the message he is saying is right. That said, just know your 600/1000 friends are exerting a LOT of throttle control riding with 300s in the group.

This made me motivated because I wanted to play the song well, and by practicing I eventually got good, to a point where I could play many other songs and write a few of my own. You should try if you wanna learn.

I've had a 900, 1000, and 600, in that order. I chuckle when I outpace liter bikes on my 600. I laugh out loud when I dust them on my brother in law's wiener 250. +bobby wasabi Mo my FZ6R tops out at 140 and that's red lining it and after to get to about 120 it takes about 20sec just to get to 140. It's great for just riding but when racing I wold rather have a r1. That's my opinion

I took the R1 to a smaller, tight track. Bike was too big. Only advantage I had was a back straightaway where I could wind her up, then jam the brakes. A 300 with a good rider would have been able to smoke me all day long.On a bigger track, or bigger roads where I can open my girl up, my bike shines.And, as always, its the rider, not the bike...in most cases.
I bought a 2015 R3 today, first bike in 18 years. Nervous as heck, but got on it and just drove it. Glad I kept my motorcycle licence. Videos like this one are the reason I chose the R3. Thanks!

One can benefit from group experiences for solo experiences. You learn to look ahead and looking ahead is always useful. Because even if you think there is no one in front of you, there suddenly could be.
I like the smaller bikes. I've always ridden a 350 (2 stroke) and have had tons of fun with it. The only time I get smoke on it was on open stretches.
I like how you have 2 fingers on the clutch when you shift - that way you always have a couple fingers on the grip. 👍🏻

On public roads it comes down to stupidity honestly. Whoever is willing to be more reckless will be out in front. There are too many variables to push just about anything other than maybe a Harley to its full potential.
On a racetrack, the results will be pretty predictable. On a larger track with big corners a 1k cc will always take it. Of the track is very small and twisty, they become evenly matched. A 300 just doesn't have thr grunt to pull out of the corners or the top speed. The only reason I prefer a 1000cc, even though I am a street rider is there are times when you need that power. If I go to pass somebody, I wajt to know I can get right on it, or quickly get out of the way

There is literally no time where you "need" 150hp to pass, the modern 300cc class bikes will all pull from 75-80mph highway cruising speeds to adequate passing speeds with hardly any difficulty. Bump up to a 500 or a 650 naked and you will lpass any car without even downshifting
I'm struggling to even comprehend this sentiment, if you like superspeeding on the highways just say that instead of saying it's about passing.
Im 6'2 215lbs and built like a wide reciever so i was afraid to get a 300cc and look stupid and too big but now I'm confident that it's the perfect bike to start with and maybe in a year get a liter bike. Thanks for the vid man.

I just bought a Black raven r3, put 340 miles on it since I got it 5 days ago. I love this bike, it's my first bike so I didn't want to get something crazy fast..and this bike is perfect, and it even feels very fast to me being a new rider. I rode with a ninja 650 and a yamaha r1 a couple times and kept up just fine on the streets as well. obviously they weren't going full throttle , just a normal spirited run.
in corners you will be able to hang but rider ability has nothing to do with straight line speed which a 300 is not on the same level as the other bikes.
I definitely had the same issue with going into turns when I ride with others. I typically take curves like that pretty fast (I mean, it's a bike... lean it over), and I've found that a lot of people with bigger bikes take it much slower. I don't know if it's because they have more power so they're more shy about using it, or if they're going too fast down the straight/in a different line so they can't carry the momentum as well, or just that if they lay it down, it'll cost them a lot to fix?

Just bought a 2018 ninja 400 pearl solar storm and I have no problem keeping up with my buddies in group ride. If we’re launching from a light or something, of course they pull away quicker than me. But the new bike is a nice change of pace and I have no regrets going from 1340cc to 400cc lol
Anything involving curves and turning, it is all about the rider. Even with a 300cc scooter you would be able to keep up until a straight away comes & then just about any 600cc bike would smoke you on 3 gear. The good thing about the R3 is that after a good ride you can rest your wrist going back home. The aggressive posture on most SS class street bikes kills your back & writs.
+Lilox Luv only hurts you if your posture is incorrect, ive done 1000mile in 1 go on an ss and the biggest issue at the other end wasnt back or wrists, it was i couldnt feel my ass, which would happen on any seat short of a bean bag haha.
if your sat properly and supporting your weight properly your wrists have no pressure on the whatso ever
Body posture is only good for only so long. To try to hold your whole body using your core to alleviate wrist pain is temporary. You will eventually get tired and shift your weight to your arms & writs. That's why ergonomics is king when it comes to motorcycles.
using your core is only 1 part of good posture, and as for going so long, i was fine after riding 2000km through 30degree sun, rain in the dark, traffic jams and fog, in one go, i doubt many people need advice for longer or harsher conditions

I ride fast bikes now but will say it can take the fun aspect at times away as there is only so much you can hammer a 1100cc bike on public roads before you get squished if not careful - hence alot of track time for me

Back in 2008 I started riding on a 2008 250 ninja, and all my buds had bigger bikes. It was the same deal, it was pinned the entire time lol. But, they would always slow down and wait for me if they got to far ahead. Now with my 2012 fz6r, I hang better with group riding. Its nowhere near the beast of the pack, but plenty of bike for my little 120 lbs. ass lmao. Great video ty :-)

I had a Ninja 250 before I bought my R6. Loved the 250, was a fun ride. I will never bash the little bikes. In the city's it was amazing, but on the open roads the R6 wins in every category. Great vid!

Keeping up means staying with the group, not matching hp for hp or who can leave who behind. It is a fun ride, you know, for a joyful experience. Social interaction must be difficult at times for you.

I own a CBR 300r and 600r I find myself using 300 a lot more just cause of the fact is getting to 100mph is good enough for the twisty and just having some fun . Instead thinking about power and throttle control you can hone your skills in other places to become a better rider
Seating positions also tend to be less aggressive. So there a lot more comfortable to ride , hence longer seat time . 🤷🏻♂️ I guess some people just like to measure there junk and compare . Lol 😂

+CrazyCanadian that's the truth... and a lot more forgiving. Get someone who knows how to ride and low speed section, 1k won't be able to get them out of the rear view. Puts a smile on your face when it happens (or mine anyways).

I have both a r3 and cbr300r I keep up. I love the 300 series bikes. Insurance rates are nutty up here in Canada for the larger cc’s.

I did happen to see that one of the turns you went into at 70mph was posted at 45mph, on top of everyone being well into the $200+ speeding ticket zone for most of the video. I ride a ZRX and I definitely break the limit, as much as you guys did, on the reg but only on roads I'm really familiar with where I know cops are not likely to be waiting behind a sign or something. So I'm wondering.... How often do you get speeding tickets? A question for Yammie but since this an old video, I'm up for hearing anyone else's opinion.
in my experience around where I live, group rides usually take well known, well ridden routes. and in my group, the lead bike has a radar detector on his bike to pickup anything that could get us in trouble. I've got no problem going 90+ with these guys.

You can get them from any retailer. Most reputable companies also sell motorcycle mounts. One example is cobra.

Interesting review. I test rode one of these and loved it. Only concern was i ride with larger bikes and somewhat faster riders but it appears in less then banzai mode it shouldn't be a problem. Cheers.
Nice video, I ride 636, definitely just street riding (if your not trying to kill your self) you can keep up no problem. Its actually more relaxing to ride a smaller cc bike because you dont have the crazy over the top power that can kill fairly quickly if you dont focus.

Roy Patterson i been riding bikes since i was 6. and i bet with hs 300cc. i could out ride half of them bigger bike. he is right. its more about who can ride and who cant. just because u can shift the fn gears. dont mean u know how to ride a bike. whn i was 6 i would run beside by bike and jump on. lol
Charles Graham Yeah, I've been riding bikes my entire life, and I've had different kinds bikes, we've also had 7 snowmobiles, a go cart and 4 wheeler ATV, I've also ridden 3 wheelers, which my best friend at the time had, and I've race BMX and AMA, so I can ride very well and there's nothing that I can't and haven't ridden. And yes, having a rider who is experienced makes all the difference in the world....my first bike was a 1975 Honda XR75, then I got a 1982 Yamaha YZ 80 which I bought from a boy who raced Motocross and was expert, and they clocked him riding a Wheelie across the finish line at 80 mph, that's how I got into racing, and damn that bike was fast, I would eat up RM 250's like they were nothing, it was bored out 30 thousands over. A boy who I used to ride with, which we are still friends, but he had the exact same bike, same year and all, but his wasn't as souped-up as mine was, I'm not sure if he ever had it bored out once, but he couldn't ride as good as me neither, so he kept bragging about fast his bike was and how he was going to dust me, I said ok, we'll see about that, but I had to wait about a week to shut him up, because my bike was in the shop getting fixed, which I usually did myself, but my stepfather knew the guy at C&L Cycles, so we let them fix it, but anyhow, one I got it back, I said go get your bike, so he went to go get it, and my other buddy told need to watch out for him because he likes to cut people off, I said I ain't worried about it, because he's not even going to be anywhere near me! lol So when he came back, I said are you ready to see who's got the fastest bike and can ride the best, he swore up and down he was going to win and I dusted him like he was nothing, I left him sitting still! lmao. But a lot of people don't know how to really ride, like the would shift too soon, or they would take a long time to shift, or they would let off the throttle and shift then get back on the throttle, not me, I kept the throttle wide open and shifted through all 6 before he knew what was going on! lmao. But you see, I would also shit without even using the clutch, and a lot of riders didn't know you could do that, but you could, you just had to have the RPM's high enough.
You can keep up with any bike if you're all doing the speed limit...lol. Come to my neck of the woods and you'll see real 'legal' speed.

i ride a 125cc yamaha wr and oh my godness. I was riding with some friends that had 50cc mopeds and it was so fun to just accelerate out of nowhere and see them panic bounce on the rev limiter:DD

You can get a decent used bike for less than what the R3 costs, not worth it and no, you can't keep up

In austraila some R3 have been braking camshafts ! But smaller bikes are so much fun at the track.Big bikes show up your deficiency's as a rider at a much faster speed .
nice vid buddy little advice on some of your right hand bends your out in the middle of the road stay tighter to the inside as if you were to have to break quite hard hitting the front break pulls the bike to your left and if its a left hand bend it would pull you into the right (kerb side) be mindful of that... guy martin a famous isle of man TT rider I have had the pleasure of meeting a few times over on the TT gave me that advice "if going right stay tight" happy riding buddy stay safe!
