      600 starter ..Think im in this category..
      27+ so can now get a A license instead of a A1 or A2 after lessons and as a engineer i cant help but look at the specs and mechanics..
      Always been the guy to do diving, climbing, paragliding.and canoepolo as a hobby.
      In the end, i just want something between a naked bike and a cruiser for fun trips with friends who also started lessons / have their license recently. Maybe i just have my first bike tuned down till i can handle it fully unlocked (lessons on a yamaha XJ6). Love the triumph street triple & speed triple, phantom black shadow and vulcan s like bikes.
      Should probably just walk into a dealorship and get a sit or you guys (internet always has more suggestions then 1.. in the end to start riding 1 (2nd hand) bike is all you need (ok incl fuel and preferably ABS )

      Right. I went out and bought my first bike, never having ridden a motorcycle before, for $2k flat, and it was a 2002 CBR 600 F4i. Since the very beginning I never felt like that was too much bike for me. Sure, it was fast, but I always felt in control and honestly feel like I could've gone faster (with a bigger bike). Overall, I am 110% glad I didn't start on a 250 or 300.

    • @evanfinch4987
      @evanfinch4987 7 років тому +6

      One reason a higher-strung 600 like a CBR is a good first bike is you can yank the throttle back at low revs and you won't get huge power. It's a pretty deliberate decision to get the most out of the bike. I think if you've slid around in a few high-power (especially RWD) cars you have already been taught proper throttle management that translates easily to fast motorcycles.

      I started on a 1600cc victory kingpin 10 years ago. Have about 60k on her. I drive semi for a living so it only took me an afternoon to get used to shifting with my foot. Another week to get used to curves at higher speeds. Being a trick driver and being aware of my surroundings and road conditions etc probably helped me more I think and also knowing instinctively to grab the clutch and brake in an emergency.

      Yea. Only i did my license 15 years ago, so i'm not up to date with the current legislation. I started on my 50cc little moped that got all the abuse you can imagine. Bored it out, added a 5th gear, larger sprocket, sports exhaust. It did 80kmh! :D
      Ran it so hard that the piston rings wore away and the piston basically welded itself into the cylinder.

      After that i ran a 125 KTM LC2, then straight to a 620 KTM LC4 Supermoto. That thing was savage off the line, nothing could touch me 0-100kmh. Then my CBR600RR for years. Swapped that for an Aprilia 1200 Dorsoduro, sold it after a month because it's by far the worst piece of shit you can buy. Now i'm shopping for a 996 or 998, with which i want to be buried.

      Paulo Remigio In Germany you have to start on a 125cc with a restriction to 11kW or 15HP. This is the A1 License. A2 License allows you to ride bikes up to 48HP, which can almost be any bike with a CDI or throttle that doesn‘t let you go above that power. This doesn‘t apply on bikes that have more than 0,2kW per kilogram of bike weight. The A license is pure freedom.

      I hated my ninja 650r though. I was getting stomped by camaros and malibus ect. Max speed was 148. Before that I had my friends CBR1000. Rode it for two days. After 27k miles of pure boring 650R, I got on a ZX10r and now funny cars are having trouble keeping up. Never going back.
      I love it when Ppl try and pass me at a light on the 10. I am barely giving it gas yet they are flooring their car like it's all for real and shit haha.

      crm187 it seems like a dealer scam to me. Who wants to buy and sell 2 or 3 bikes over the course of a couple years, losing money each time, until they arrive at their dream bike. I got my permit and bought an '06 R6 the next day. One dealer told me "Im reluctant to sell this to you, if you were asking for the R1 then i would definitely not sell to you." Long story short, i dropped in once at low speeds in my first couple weeks of owning but loved that thing for almost 10 years. my skills increased as time went on and that bike felt like an extension of me. Not necessary to start small as long as youre cautious and not a bonehead. problem is...boneheads never admit that they are boneheads.

    I must be a mix here. I started off on a 49cc scooter just to get a feel of riding on two wheels, then moved to a 650 solely because I found one that was cheap to buy. It was pretty intimidating at first, but it's not so bad now. I honestly don't think I would need any more power than I do now. I can totally see why you'd want a 250 instead to start off with. Honestly though, I still have the scooter and I love the hell out of that thing, I don't give a shit what people think haha.

      Alex Jacobson I started with a 49cc scooter too. Found a used 125 cruiser with 1500 miles that was too cheap to pass. Fun around town but tapped out on 60 mph roads. I'm debating whether to get a Ninja 300, a maxi scooter, or to go back to 49cc scooters

      I started on 50cc 2 stroke pedal start mopeds, got pissed they kept breaking down and made a ton of noise, yet struggled to break the 25mph speed limit at full throttle lol. Then went straight to a 650cc 71HP inline four Yamaha Maxim cruiser, kinda scary getting used to it but I love it now. Also really funny to troll cheaper sports cars with because no one suspects an 80s Yamaha cruiser has that much power until you blow their doors off

    I was the 650 starter guy. I bought a used Suzuki SV650 because it had more torque (hahaha), was faster off the line and had more top end than any 250 or 300 or even 500. It also looked like a real full sized motorcycle. It was hella fun to ride too. Then one day near the end of the first season with it, I passed a car and realized that I had the throttle pinned and for like 5 seconds. Now I'm not saying that I was going slow because I wasn't but clearly I found the limits of the bike and my fear and ability had a higher ceiling. Sooooo.... After just 4 months with the bike I traded it for.....a brand spanking new white Triumph Street Triple! That was in 2012 and I still love it! In all honesty going with the Suzuki was a good move. The Street Trip whispers in your ear like a devious mistress telling you to do crazy things your wife or girlfriend would never let you do. You need to have discretion when you pull the trigger. In all honesty I have managed to pin the throttle on the Triumph but only for an instant and doing so results in speeds 50 mph over the speed limit.

    Its true that if you don't have self control, or the patience to learn the bike, you can have a really fucked up day. You have to know your limits, take it easy and slow, don't let others goad you into anything outside your skill level.

    I started on a 650. Suzuki Savage. Light cruiser and single cylinder so low center of gravity, easy to handle. Comfortable enough I often took it to a campground 3 hours ride north with my gear strapped on the seat behind me. Sport bikes may be faster but try riding one for 12 hours to go to an event.

      Hah, the LS 650 savage was my bike in driving school back then. And it is easy to see why they choosed this bike: low weigth (aproxx/ 170kg), low center of gravity, low seating position & high torque. This thing was easy to handle for persons of every size. It's still sold in the US under the name "boulevard s40"

    started on a cbr600f '02, knowing it was a fairly fast and dangerous bike for a starter, so i was super careful the first couple months, after about a year i was confident enough to expand the horizon and start reaching that knee out, start clutching up the front wheel a mere 2 inches, it was about a month or 3 after that when i first scraped a knee, dank whoolies are still out of my comfort zone though but it worked out, 6 years in now and i haven't crashed yet, even dragged elbow on track with an rsv4 (see my profile pic haha)

    Other than the weight , there is no reason not to recommend it as a starter bike.
    It's not something you grow out of in a few months , nor will it kill you on the first wrist-twist.
    Moved on to a GSX-F750 last month.

    • @jouseyjunior8874
      @jouseyjunior8874 7 років тому

      Joshuafree321 i would say cc's is what sells. Honestly i dont think people look at HP when buying a bike, cause in the bike world (for someone new) they look at a 170hp sport bike and they think, ohh thats it. But if you get around to know bikes you would know that 170hp below your crotch is a ton of power, so people get to think of as "the more cc i get the faster i will go" cause technically in the car world the more cylinders you get the faster you go
