- In this video I will show you all that you need to do to tame a Shadowmane, the crazy squid lion thing of ARK: Genesis Part 2. In order to tame a Shadowmane you will need to capture fish in a fish basket to feed to them while they are sleeping during the day. Once you feed the shadowmane enough delicious fish you will be rewarded with one of the best all around creatures that this game has to offer. It has amazing offensive abilities, it can cloak itself, it has an incredible jump and also an incredible swimming speed. This cat has it all!

Patience is huge on this! The timer will not reset on the shadowmane unless YOU wake it up. You'll wake it up by approaching from the wrong side while it is sleeping, and it becomes aware of you. I've snuck up on these things wearing my tech suit. Ghillie is nice for avoiding other creatures while your sneaking up on them. The taming will not drop regardless of how many times it goes to sleep or how much time passes. I clear all creatures beside fish from an area so that the mane will just chill out in an area. If the mane falls asleep in a bad position and you can't get a good angle to sneak up on it, just wait for it to fall asleep in a better spot.

You missed something important about the shadow Manes
With the power attack you showed the males and females do different debuffs with them as the male does Shadow mane poison which reduced the melee of the creature attacking you, and females do Shadow mane bleed which is a bleed that takes 1% of health which is similar to the deinonychus's bleed effect
When I started looking stuff up about these guys I was like "It really doesn't look *that* hard to tame" no no no no no no NO, it most certainly was that hard to tame. You see, I severely underestimated just how much time it would take to tame one of these guys, it took me two hours, and I started at 11 pm, I'm sitting there at one in the morning like "Please, just let this end, I've got other people in the house, I can't stay up all night!" But after two other failed attempts and a near fail on the very last feed that damn near stopped my heart I finally tamed it

There is a sliding motion with them that’s kinda off putting. Also I can’t hit any creature with mine but I can take damage from them. 🤦🏾♂️
u can jump straight up and use it to scout out when ur up in the air
and if u jump for a long distance it will do a flip kinda
idk if this help but the shadowmanes start to sleep at 8 AM in game...this man needs a play though I'd love to see him play this game in like a play though
I kept trying to crawl towards it, crawling doesnt work you have to crouch
I've had on ps4 when trying to feed it more fish, it will just notice me somehow. Like i'll be behind it, in ghilli and with cactus brew on to lower my aggro range even more. And yet i'll get it seeing me like several yards away, despite still being behind it. I've also had it lose it's taming bar seemingly at random. Like i'll feed it a fish, then when i feed it another it will just go to 0 again instead of going up. Or if it's sleeping and i wake it up, it wont actually reset that time. It's so hard to tell what's a bug, and what's intended with this thing.
It needs to be asleep to feed it, walk up from behind then when you’re abt 35m away crouch down or else it WILL notice
@@jackmoorman6195 I know. It is asleep. I finally tamed one, but i am 100% positive they are broken on ps4. I would be sitting on a cliff, well over 100 meters away, and it would just suddenly reset for no reason. Or if i was flying back home to grab something quick, which wasn't very far, it would just start draining. Yet, when i ran out of fish and had to go FAR further away, after a much longer time of taming it, it would be perfectly fine.
@@EridianX broken AF! I spent all day trying to tame a 130. Had it over 30% soo many times and the last one was over 75%. It got rage shotgunned
@@jasonsteinman2529 I finally managed to tame one. It took forever.
First day i spent about 8 hours trying it, with the constant resetting. Second day i spent 6 hours and had less resets, but more bs ones with it doing it while i was flying back to my base for something and the tame would just start dropping for no reason. Third day, today, i started at noon, like on the dot. I finished taming it at 9:30pm. It reset on me 4 times today alone. Once, it did it while i was over a hundred meters away, on a rock, on a wyvern waiting for it to sleep. Just poof, down to zero for no reason.
The attempt that finally got it, it was on 95% for two in game days, because it would never sleep for long. Like it would lay down, i would run up to 50 meters away an crouch, and before i could reach 30 meters it would get up again. Taming this thing was absolute hell.

I feel really bad for people who didn’t know you could build a trap for the shadow mane that way all you have to do is stand still and feed it, it’s trapped in a box so it can’t go anywhere when it goes invisible plus it can’t detect you being under it if you just stay crouched, you need 4 foundation, 8 double door frames, 4 hatch frames, 6 ramps, and 16 walls to build this trap(all stone btw except for the ramps, those can be wood)
my male goes invisible by itself
Pro tip, get a quetzal and move the shadowmane you're taming into the empty lunar corridor, slow as hell but it'll save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

how do i make my shadowmane completely invisible like the wild one because when i turn mine invisible it still like glows
It still glows because it's an allied shadowmane. It's the same with rock drakes. A wild shadowmane is considered an enemy shadowmane, so you can't see it once it goes invisible.
wait... i thought the shadowmanes can turn other creatures invisible, it even showed it in the gen2 trailer
The female can, if she's mate boosted. You need a Male and Female, and then everybody goes invisible
What does making the shadowmane sleep do once it’s tamed

how much does it actually matter that you approach it from behind? the shadowmanes seem to wake up completely randomly, whether I'm crouching, wearing ghilie, or drop on them with my tek suit. I think there's something we're missing, honestly. and it's so infuriating that they lose all taming progress sometimes when they randomly wake up. very much unpredictable.
They will wake up regardless, once your In 15 meters of them they will wake up if you aren't crouched, they sleep randomly when your not taming them and when you begin the taming progress they sleep for only 30 seconds at a time and after you feed it you need to get out of its way before it sees you so you need to couch until your 15 meters away and then run for it and if you track it on the taming hud it should tell you how far it is from you and you should kill every creature around and harvest it so it doesn't gain aggro while your taming it
How can I get a fungal wood at Gen 2? Without it I can't make fish basket
Go to the other area where shadowmans are there is a certain tree that doesn't have leaves on it mine those
I spent 6 HOURS yesterday and I only made it to 40% tamed 2 times

That’s how it be spend 8 hours and either you finally get it or you don’t, the worst part is when the fish expire…
Ps: shadowmanes start to go to sleep @9am every day, so if you start getting fish around 2am you’ll be good it helps a lot trust me
The _male_ can also turn invisible, however it *CANNOT* turn other creatures invisible like the _female_ does.

@@jbspeechful yes, it doesn't take fall damage. No matter how high you fall. Nooblets mentioned it in their shadoemane guide. But I don't know how many people watched both guides.
My female stealths us even when not mate boosted

@@Miguel-Red So the solution, instead of tranqing it and having to protect it's body, is to just sneak and shove fish up it's ass? Passive taming has always been retarded in this game. Boring, time consuming, and no skill needed whatsoever. At least knocking something out is an actual FIGHT.

Passive taming takes times and focus
Everything can make your taming a nightmare
From other people messing with you or a creature attacking you
And shadowmane are OP so this method is nice cuz it's take you time and preparation
@@Miguel-Red So you dismiss tranqing it because you can trap it, but then say while passive taming other dinos or people can mess with you? You do realize both of those things apply for both methods, yes?
Time does not equal skill or difficulty.
And passive taming takes focus? You walk up and press a button. Then wait and press the button again.
And preparation? What do you think making a trap to tranq something takes? Or the materials to build a good xbow? And arrows? That's all preperation too. The exact things you list for why passive taming is better, also apply to tranqing something. Only when tranqing something, you are actually ACTIVE. Not just mindlessly pressing one button then waiting before you press that same exact button again.
Of all the annoying things WC do (and lets be honest, its A LOT), things related to taming various non KO method dinos are super damn annoying. Like the taming bar starting to tick down on a hyaena if you dont pet it the *literal second* you are allowed pet it again, or a basilisk randomly dropping taming effectiveness for no discernible reason, or Troodon.... well, you get the idea. They just love to troll I guess :s

And I thought the Stryder taming mechanic was stupid AF. This has got to be the single worst mechanic WC has come up with for taming. I wonder, do they even play this game? Because the vast majority of new mechanics they add are less fun than nailing your genitals to the forehead of a wild bull and having someone kick it in the gonads.
I'm gonna hard disagree with you. I love it. The tek stryder taming is fun to me, it's a but wonky at times because these things love to walk straight into stands of treed, but I still enjoy it anyway. Also, taming Shadowmanes is fun, and a change of pace from "find Dino, build 2x2 trap, lure Dino in, shoot Dino, put food in inventory, wait." So, respectfully, I think you're dead wrong and this is a fun challenge that had sort of gone away for people that have played for years.
