As someone who took a forced break from classic and just got back into my guilds official raids (all raids including ubrs first, we full clear and mind control the fire buff giver) I shit the bed, I was very low on healing, totem twisting and couldn't figure it out. Turns out I was just relying on chain heal during mc and bwl and got away with good parses. Well I parsed between 5-30 this week. Turns out relying on chain heal spam isn't good enough and as a returning player (work load lightened up to get back to raiding) Thank you for this video, it is exactly what I needed after a bad showing. I'll be sharing it with my guild shamans as well.
I healed as resto originally on vanilla, and currently leveling to do it again. After seeing your earlier leveling guide, I'm sure this one will be great :D I figured it out last time, but I'm sure I was far from optimal, so this will help a ton :D

Melderon, love the guide videos that you have put up for all variants of Shaman. Do you have, or plan to have, a video on how to make macros for Shamans? I've watched all of your Shaman content, but I think that is where I am lacking as I do not have macro making experience.
To be perfectly honest, I do not use macros really unless I am using a /stopcasting macro or /startattack. Personally, I find that effective keybinding is the "key" here. But I will try to compile some that Shaman use and see what I can figure out
I appreciate the perfection with detail by E, though I must wonder to what degree some of it it is not simply inefficent effort for the average player, worth spending more on visual info etc. I guess we will find out in the last raids? No one seems to have any guides on using the 8 piece tier 1 set. I'm looking everywhere for information about the healing style and relevant details to maximizing that bonus. Also curious about the comparison between the 8 piece and chain heal etc. @Defcamp & Melderon TV
Because it's not worth it. 3 pieces t2 for chain heal (1 piece you need to wait for bwl release) + and that's the point, leather shoulders/legs from MC are so powerful. I tested by myself in MC and Onyxia (Ony - split as 20 every week). I use 5 pieces T1 atm +leather legs/shoulders from MC and gloves blue from DM. Nothing is better atm.
5/8 tier 1 is good enough to get you a "priority healing" spot but the 8/8 is just a tiny bonus not worth considering. Otherwise stick to 3/8 tier 2 (at phase 3 onward) and enjoy your "raid healer" spot instead.
Updated Info: 1: Stack +healing gear 2: Tier 1 is shit (pre bis/offset is better) 3: Get 3 piece tier 2 asap 4: Spam CH rank 1 or 3 where needed 5: Use LHW 1,4,6 to snipe heals and top meters 6: Nature Swiftness max rank HW or Rank 3 CH on cool down to top meter 7: repeat
Why not create few sets of macros for totems? I have castsequence macros for ranged/melee/pvp and I just swap depending on the situation with all totems being on a side bar just in case I need to emergency click one.
I need to ask something. My guild that u am in now are "obsessed" with +healing on my gear. As opposed to mana pool and armour lvl. As stats say I do alot less healing but I am always standing at the end of a long fight. So I am confused is it bis or mana pool?
So, about Tauren having more range to heal the tank... is it real? Because if his hitbox is also wider, doesn't that mean that if any mechanics would hit an orc healign at max range (lets say 40 yards) wouldn't it also hit the tauren healing at 42.5 yards as well since Tauren also get hit from further away?
Back in the day I never used different ranks of my heals. I always used my highest ranks available & I was an excellent healer in both pve & pvp. And in hearing you guys talk about using all kinds of different ranks, I remain unmoved on my past experiences. Also, this whole blow your load every fight thing.....yeah no.
keybindings is so limited. instead of WASD use ESDF. You have far more many available keys instead of being jammed into the left side of your keyboard. Also how does this guide not have any macros lol
30:15 mp5 builds are pointless, for bosses die less than 90 seconds this time around. mp5 will get you one, maybe two chain heals. It's better to stack int up front and +healing in almost every scenario I've seen so far.
We're supposed to use every single point of mana in every encounter? That's just silly. Shouldn't the ideal amount of mana to be used be the amount that ensures every member of the raid or group survives? Should we start overhealing near the end just to make sure we don't "waste" mana?
@@bannor123 if you aren't close to oom after a boss encounter, there are three possible explanations, 1.) You aren't healing enough, 2.) You aren't doing damage when you can, 3.) You have too many healers
@@DefcampMelderonTV 1. Assuming the raid doesn't wipe (and assuming you're helping other healers if necessary) you're healing enough. The amount of remaining mana doesn't seem relevant at all, 2. But when does "damage when you can" begin? My entire reason for being in the raid is to heal. I'm not going to run the risk of oom'ing because I start casting flame shocks at the beginning to ensure that I have no mana at the end. Nor will I do it at any point if other healers are low on mana. My utility to assist another healer far outweighs the puny dps I'm capable of. The point is, I won't know for certain what my or any other healer's mana situation will be at the end, until we're actually at the end, and I always want to have a small reserve. Therefore, it makes no sense to dps prior to that. That narrows potentially "doing damage when you can" to the very end of a fight. What I don't understand is the large stress on not wasting mana. How is the raid harmed if I didn't spend that last 200 mp? 3. Agreed. Far better to bring another dps than having healers messing around with weak dps and overhealing just to burn mana so it isn't "wasted". Btw, thanks for all the work you guys do.
@@bannor123 I think in essence, it comes down to playstyle and guild type. I think this strategy is mostly delegated to "try-hards" and min maxxers. For 90% of guilds, this strategy may not be needed. However, I think it's good to strive for improvement any way you can. That being said, I'm not one of those people. Egregious most definitely is. Different strokes
What a deaf comment. The goal is to be oom or close to when the boss is dead. Context is important. And yes if you're not low on mana it means the content you're doing is too easy for your gear, you did a poor job, you stressed your other healers, or you could have contributed DPS.

Jamezuh I’m not an expert at classic ive never played it, but all I know is In retail the goal sure as hell ain’t to go oom and I’m a mostly heroic to some mythic content raider in retail. The only fights I go oom is in mythic content

In my opinion Vuhdo is the best Healer UI there is. It's simple, offers a lot of costumisation and works in classic aswell.
What is mp5? isnt it based on shamans mana regen and their spirit? trying to figure out if plus 9 healing spells is better than 4 int in general...
Mp5 regens outside the 5 second rule. Therefore, you Regen regardless of your casting frequency

Yes, Tauren get an extra 2.5 yards added to the range of all of their spells. However, people can hit you from 2.5 extra yards as well.

Jamezuh I’m not an expert at classic ive never played it, but all I know is In retail the goal sure as hell ain’t to go oom and I’m a mostly heroic to some mythic content raider in retail. The only fights I go oom is in mythic content
@@KC-py5vq In raiding the goal has always been to be OOM by the end of the fight. That's literally never not been a thing. Either heal more or contribute via utility or damage.
It's just harder to do on retail since they simplified mana management so much. But it still is a sign of a good raider.
