Great to see you back in AUS mate. It's so nice to see one of our classic cars on your channel. It was a sad few years here watching Both Holden & Ford disappear from our shores. I love you're work Larry. Wherever you are. Stay safe mate.
Being a huge holden hsv fan, l often wondered what happened to this ute! I was so impressed with it, l went out and purchased one myself, it always puts a smile on my face, and people always give it a thumbs up!!! Thanks for sharing Larry, enjoy your stay in Oz…
all of this reminds me of wade, an aussie who loves his ute because as a drummer he has a lot of stuff to get on the back of his car. this is incredible to look at, i really love it. you said right, new car have all of this modern stuff that will confuse you. this one has just the basics, it works and i bet it was indestructible af! amazing find
I was hoping youd upload some more Australian car restorations, our cars here are so beautiful! Its ashame Holden & Ford went offshore but its good to see people have kept them, youre the right person to detail them Larry!
Thank you for bringing an Aussie icon back to its former glory again. The Maloo was deserving of HSV’s motto, I just want one, as were the rest of the HSV range. When we lost our manufacturing industry in 2017, and the Holden brand being axed in 2020, our country lost its identity and our creation, the Ute. As controversial as it may seem to some, no Ranger, Colorado or Triton will match the character of the Holden and Ford Utes. I consider myself one of the lucky ones that can be proud to daily drive an Aussie legend, a 2014 Ford Falcon XR8. 335kW of supercharged Miami power, it’s a hoot! Whether you root for Red or Blue, you cannot deny that our cars have plenty of character. It’s too bad everything had to disappear. EDIT: what I forgot to mention about the Maloo that you detailed is that it’s a Z Series 2. I believe only the Maloo was given a different series name, despite other HSV models receiving the same, minor, differences, most notably the side indicator flukes
Now I have no idea when my rego is due until the renewal is in the mail then every mechanic around where I live is booked out for the roadworthy inspection for more than a month! I now set a reminder in my phone 6 weeks out. Also my mechanic has stopped using stickers for the next service. Weird!
What a great car!! The story behind it is amazing! So satisfying to see the before and after of the detail and the red really was popping after!! Great job Larry and Brodie! Love these videos! Keep up the amazing work!
We ALMOST had these in North America. The Pontiac G8 is the same platform, and just before the company went under, they had a naming contest for the "ute" version of this car. It had come down to G8T or G8 Truck if I recall correctly. Such a shame. We also had the Chevy SS, which looked like a Malibu, but was RWD and had a V8. Chevy didn't market it properly, and they didn't stick around very long.
As an aussie, I'm sure you will have heaps of viewers super keen to see our aussie muscle cars restored, detailed, etc. How about a sister channel AMMO SYD?
That's awesome! The closest we ever had were the El Camino and the Ranchero. Both awesome cars, but never made in big production numbers or marketed well.
As long as its 25 years old, you can bring one of these Holdens into the US! The process is relatively straightforward and it'll be legal to drive here. Absolute legends and would love to bring more up!
It's great to see you in my neighbourhood again, mate. It was nice meeting you last year. This reminds me that I need to talk to Brodie again about polishing my MR2!
Love seeing a Holden! I have a 05 Pontiac GTO (Holden Monaro). Same interior, more or less. HSV is a bit different. Great cars and def legends in Australia. There are UTEs in America now as well.
I remember those utes when i got to visit Australia in the early 2000 and was curoius about what option they would have and to my surprise what ever you in a corvette in the U.S. can be had in a Ute. Basically a rebodied corvette. 6.0 litre 6 speed manual large brakes independent front and rear suspension and more. Aussie knows their stuff and possibly better. The Monaro started the Camaro trend.
Larry. The main graphics like the mobile logos are vinyl cut. Meaning the material is made that colour, black red white etc. They are then assembled. The Guiness world record stick is probably screen printed onto white vinyl. The screening (dots) can be removed with friction where the solid vinyl won't. Hope that helps.
Those Holden utes are very cool. At a local cars and coffee, in the United States, I went to, someone had imported a Ford Falcon ute and had it on display at the cars and coffee show. If you were to get a Holden ute, like the one you detailed and drove, you could import it under the show and display category, which would be cool for AMMO NYC to show off a events all across the United States.
What an amazing piece of automotive history (salty american here that our srt10 got beat), just jokes though haha. Always cool to see the parts of automotive history across the pond. Loving these videos man, keep it up.
I wish that GM, Ford and Stellantis offered "utes" based on their muscle car chassis... imagine a "ute" based on the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. I'm a Mustang guy, I would totally rock that! Another thing I noticed is that the car's color was actually listed in the nomenclature and not in some kind of code. BMW used to that under the hoods of their vehicles. That needs to come back, it would make it a lot easier for detailers to match touch up paints.
The First ever passenger sedan body Ute/pickup/utility vehicle was Australia 1934 by ford actually, also know as a coupe utility, kinda shocks me cause I thought it was GM Holden, technically the first ever version of this concept was made by Volvo in 1920s, anyways first ever GM passenger vehicle Ute/pickup (like the El Camino not the Mid to full sized vehicles) was in Australia 1951
You Americans kind of got them in the form of the Pontiac GTO that’s probably the closets you will get in the states As an Aussie that model of hsv is my favourite and I have the sedan version known as a clubsport 👌🏽
I designed the products to have a large margin of safety, working time, and heat management. I determine the right polish + pad combination by performing a test pass with the goal to remove as much defects while preserving the most paint possible. The majority of my polishing removes a negligible amount of clear coat. If you'd like to understand more about polishing, check out the AMMO ATA 200 series I filmed with Kevin Brown. Hope that's helpful ua-cam.com/play/PLABNq41vjJ6OTImAFYWp_cXsVL-Y1hI76.html&si=EHIlGSKNt1tywyfh
Dude I can't believe these things didn't catch on in the US. All the fun of a car plus you can actually move things with ease and just spray out the bed and you can have a party back there drinking with friends while grilling etc.

The fading sticker is most likely the cheap kind only printed on white vinyl so rubbing or polishing it removes the color layer leaving only a white vinyl sticker. More expensive stickers are often true colored vinyls stacked on top of each other or melted together.
No ,Utes have been in Australia since 1934 when Ford Australia built the first one. So the El Camino is the copy, not the other way around. I know Americans find it hard to believe, but the US isn't the first in everything even though you people sure love to think it.
A very well known vehicle in Australia, fantastic to see it brought back up to standard. Is the vehicle going to be publicly viewable or going back into a private collection?
I don't know much about detailing...but in a situation like Stash - what special steps are taken to prep a car for sitting under a sheet/cover for long periods of time? Do you apply special coatings or avoid certain ones? I'd just wonder how most paint holds up under something like that for years at a time (even a clean one, in a well kept/controlled environment).
Really wish we got utes in the US. Theres so many vehicles other countries get, yet we dont for some reason. Also was that parked with 18 year old gas in it? Or did they run it dry before parking? " why dont we get cool stuff like this ?" Exactly!!!! We really dont get shyt over here. Even our versions of cars other countries get are watered down.
