Looks great. I’ve had a few of these. I would not waste any time or money on that 12A rotary. Swap it! Ok for their time but they lacked power and had very high fuel consumption. Rust is a big issue. Steering box has alot of slop. Clutch fan seizes up. The ones to get are the 84-85 gsl-se with the 13B motor and the beefed up rear axle.
My family were involved in UK saloon car racing..so round about 1979 ish when i was 12...i had the close up opportunity to see these blow everything else away.
I'm just so Proud of you boys.......You are bringing back the cars of my teen driving days and earlier but lately Nailing the classics of my youth. Forget my I's but I(haha...I did it again) just mean the Era is great. Great finds boys!!!!!
Correct - 1976 bicentennial Kennedy half dollar with independence hall on the back rather than the usual eagle. Special and collectible but not very valuable, at least not yet.
Mike you showed the F250 I said OUT LOUD.....That is Roached and a 1/2 sec later you go THAT IS ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAACCCHHHHHEEEEEEEEDDDDD! Agreed!!!!!! Just got a hoot out of that?
really cool find, i love this car. i was pretty surprised how the paint turned out, i though it was in a worse shape lol. i would swap the engine tbh to add some extra punch to it. ps. mike was good behind the camera :)
The RX7 is such a cool car! My Dad had one from the early 80’s that he bought in the mid 90’s when they were super cheap to buy… He loved it but the rotary engine needs constant maintenance and drinks oil like crazy. Some people swap Miata engines and transmissions into these, but the rotary engine is definitely what lets these cars down.
One of my friends from high school had an RX-7. He didn't have any trouble with the engine but I did put a clutch in it for him once. He helped a little when it was something that required more than two hands. He wrecked it before it was old enough to have any engine trouble I guess.
I've a '85 FB bought new and used as a daily driver for over a decade. Never had engine issues with 141k on the clock but the emission system is a different story. Had to replace a failed air control valve assembly located over the very hot exhaust manifold which affected emissions and wouldn't pass CA smog. Important to change oil every 3k miles and monitor condition of 'rat's nest' emission vacuum hoses for condition and replace if cracked.
Sweet RX-7! Mazda did some good engineering on the Wankel engine to make it more reliable. They were not fuel efficient, but with almost no red line...what fun!
Awesome as. Those series 1's are pretty hard to find these days There's nothing comparable to the disappointment of people's reactions when they realise an RX-7 has been piston swapped😂😂 Those original 12as are super reliable and easy to get running right. Otherwise a simple 13b swap (either turbo or NA) is pretty simple Have you fullas thought about those quickjack things? They would allow yous to get the wheels off and clean them (and the arches) really well aye🤔😂 haha
I have a soft spot for RX7’s. I had an 1981 I bought new. My wife wife really wanted it and six months later she had me sell it because it was too quick for her. The rotary engine is unlike a piston engine as it’s hard to tell how fast you’re going by the sound of it. It’s a very smooth revving engine.
I almost bought one of those when I graduated from HS in 1987. It was a little rough and the seat rails were jacked leading me to believe it had been wrecked. That rotary engine can be a pain but nothing else sounds like them or revs as fast. But they are tiny and in this model, one person can easily pull the engine solo and without an engine jack. That newer model you showed briefly are incredible sports cars but have paper-thin body panels to save weight and a super complicated vacuum system in the engine.
Good luck on the 1978 Mazda detail, gonna need it Brent, Mike & R.J. Tickets still on sale for Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve rock opera concert 2 months away from December 27th.
Very cool car, enjoyed the episode, This one is a series one which makes it an SA, though over here in Australia and other markets, all first gen RX-7's (series 1, 2 and 3) were all SA and had the 12A engines. No RX-7 deserves to be bastardised with a piston engine or anything other than a rotary engine, leave it stock. Obviously you guys aren't too familiar with rotaries but don't let ignorance convince you and the owner that it needs a non rotary engine, there's plenty of vids here on youtube to learn about them.
Paint it midnight purple and Bridgeport it.lower it with old school low profile hotwire mags and tires. Nice exhaust tinted windows good sound system. 😂
Good afternoon, another excellent job. I needed a tip, someone ... put super glue 3 on my car door, it's runny, my question is how can I get the glue off as I've used oil and it's done nothing,
Guys, is there any chance for a “smell update” when one of these particularly smell cars are done? Just curious to see how a detail can remove those smells.
I think the middle button on dash is for power antenna maybe as I think that's the symbol for antenna. However, I think this car is a bit of a waste of time. Probably only worth a couple thousand as it sits since it needs thousands of dollars of work to bring it back including a full repaint. Probably why its been sitting for so long. I prefer seeing old cars that either have a lot of collector value or interesting daily drivers that can be brought back to life quickly with a little mechanical work and the wonderful detailing you guys do. Keep up the good work though!
Leave it rotary, that's what makes it fun, otherwise it'll sound just like every other V8 today, plus don't underestimate the rotary engine, they are very powerful once built, I know cause I saw many back in the 90s at Moroso Speedway in Florida. Those high RPM engines are no joke
Talk about finicky, I had a Mazda RX-4 with a rotary engine. Couldn't get it started. Gave it to a friend. All he had to do was put an air filter in it. Started right up after 2 years. Air fuel mixture is critical I came to learn.
In the U.S. market, SA (79-80) FB (81-85). Those wheels are called "Keyholes" due to the oblong shape like a skeleton key would fit in. They were a special order option back when this car was new. They are worth some good coin to early rotary car collectors. If owner is not going to use them DO NOT toss them out. Of course keep it rotary.
Should the owners try & fix the Rotary engine in this RX-7 or swap it out with something else?!
Dont forget to like the video!
fix the engine frrr
Why do people put an LS ( lame sh**) in cars? Keep the original
let the owners try and fix the rotary engine
Not worth the effort unless you are a real RX7 enthusiast.
It is so neat how futuristic looking these cars were back in the day. Mazda had some really progressive engineers designing their cars back then.
Looks great. I’ve had a few of these. I would not waste any time or money on that 12A rotary. Swap it! Ok for their time but they lacked power and had very high fuel consumption. Rust is a big issue. 24:33 That is a Bi-Centennial half dollar. Super cool.

The button at 22:50 is for the antenna, cheers from Italy! 👍
Yes! The symbol is the electrical schematic symbol for "antenna".
You are correct sir ! 😁
That interior is soooo cool!!!
You guys should detail that maroon Dodge Daytona in the background next.
You really crushed it again! Keep being awesome.
Mike you showed the F250 I said OUT LOUD.....That is Roached and a 1/2 sec later you go THAT IS ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAACCCHHHHHEEEEEEEEDDDDD! Agreed!!!!!!
Just got a hoot out of that?
Hope they keep it stock. That Rotary isn't a difficult engine to work on. Parts a bit tricky but lots in Europe. Nice job and great find... Next! 😂🎉
The SA/FB bodies are quintessential 70s-80s Japanese design… timeless beauty.
Unreal how mint the interior is. Mint overall but the interior takes the cake.
The human centipede-style car push slayed me! 🤣#teamworkyeah
I wanna say that button in the middle is for an electric antennae (just a guess).
same on the antenna.
Ha I love how the background music always suits the make and year of the vehicle. Nice detail.
Nice job cameraman Mike ! 👍
I love RuneScape ❤
Never played it, but OSRS looks like fun. I'm a Classic WoW guy myself.
@ i like the classic version too, that’s why I haven’t played in awhile
FB3S RX7’s have such an iconic design and originally 12a rotary powered! Love the vids! Especially the rotary ones! 😄👍
really cool find, i love this car. i was pretty surprised how the paint turned out, i though it was in a worse shape lol. i would swap the engine tbh to add some extra punch to it.

Nice job on the RX-7 ! 👍
That is strange how the fenders got rusty in those weird patterns. 🤔
I went to high school with a guy who has an RX 7 rotary. It was, and remains the only one I have ever seen with my own eyes!
One of my friends from high school had an RX-7.
He didn't have any trouble with the engine but I did put a clutch in it for him once. He helped a little when it was something that required more than two hands.
He wrecked it before it was old enough to have any engine trouble I guess.
Yall are some of my favorite detailer's. Keep it up🎉
Actual cleaning starts 11:30
I've gotten to where I mostly just skip to the end
Loved all of those plastic bags under the engine. Wow! 😂
After the Lotus Esprit, that's the most 80s-looking 70s car I've ever seen.
The coin is a bicentennial half dollar and it’s only worth about three dollars.
You guys need a ramp and need to start taking tyres off when cleaning, but love your videos keep up the good work

I owned a 1984. Great car. They are going for big bucks these days 💰💵💰
You're a stand-up guy Dave you guys do great work! It's hard to find shops like you guys! If I lived near you, I'd let you work on my stuff. 👍
Dave ?
Dave ?
Dave's not here.
(Sorry for the old Cheech and Chong reference)
I was watching Dave's auto repair and was paired to my TV, and then the show switched 😆
in my country im from SOUTH AFRICA we,ve got one of these with a 2jz turbo
Brent's face in 7:20 😆
Awesome as. Those series 1's are pretty hard to find these days

Keep it like it is
That center switch you were asking about appears to be for raising & lowering a power antenna. That's an antenna symbol on the switch.
Keep it rotary! 😊
11:14 : Teamwork 💪

I love Rx-7's, my first car was a 1989 Rx-7 turbo, great job on the detail fellas
I would restore the rotary engine
Looked good when it was covered in soap
Would love to see the engine restoration video on this. do you know if any of your partners will be doing it?
I’ve owned 3 RX7’s 79’, 85’ and 90’ and I loved them all!
There’s a shop in Washington who sells and rebuilds rotary engines.
Keep it original 👍
Nice👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Liking the little run of non-muscle car finds!
Chelsea DeNofa youtuber has a old Rx7 has a vid on the engine he put in it.
Another 31 minutes of my life well spent 😃!
2024. 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇲
The button is the antenna? power? The plaid interior Porche of that era did plaid so they were probably trying to copy.

Interior is incredibly condition
I admire your professionalism and ability to make quality videos. Thank you for your hard work!🙄🌖🍇

That looked like a field mouse 🐁 😳 i would've peeled out running 😅
Yeee Yeee 😊
Results it🎉
The JFK coin is worth a lot of money depending on its condition
Good luck on the 1978 Mazda detail, gonna need it Brent, Mike & R.J. Tickets still on sale for Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve rock opera concert 2 months away from December 27th.
the bicentenial half dollar might be worth about $ .75

White exterior/red interior is definitely not a “new age” thing.
Paint it midnight purple and Bridgeport it.lower it with old school low profile hotwire mags and tires. Nice exhaust tinted windows good sound system. 😂
He did a great job
Good afternoon, another excellent job.
I needed a tip, someone ... put super glue 3 on my car door, it's runny, my question is how can I get the glue off as I've used oil and it's done nothing,
My brother had one of these.
These were modeled on the Porsche 924.
No they weren't, that was the series 4 FC3S RX-7's.
Guys, is there any chance for a “smell update” when one of these particularly smell cars are done? Just curious to see how a detail can remove those smells.
Some people call them Wacker motors put in LS in it say your self the time 😢
I really appreciate your ability to make quality content. Your videos always stand out from the rest. Keep up the good work!🐶🚀🐡

I had a 1979 5pm w/manual choke. Parallel parking that thing in DC sucked with that manual steering!!!
Leave it rotary, that's what makes it fun, otherwise it'll sound just like every other V8 today, plus don't underestimate the rotary engine, they are very powerful once built, I know cause I saw many back in the 90s at Moroso Speedway in Florida. Those high RPM engines are no joke

Whats the red car with the red wheels?
From what I found that's a 2 rotor 1.1 liter with 100hp & 105lb-ft of torque
Buenas tardes, una pena en el estado en que se encuentra por fuera, pero lo habéis dejado bien dentro de lo malo, ❤👏🖐️🇪🇦
I saw a guy the other day who swapped a viper v10 into an FD RX 7 it was insane 😂
is that a red Shelby daytona in background?
keep it original.
Keep it original can't understand how someone would put a different type of motor in a RX7 that's what they are known for just my opinion
Second thought… swap out the engine
They should LS swap since not many people work on rotary engines. I'd say add power steering too, but I'm sure the owner plans on it.
What year was that Vue? Honda V6?
I thought 1979 was the first year.
Being a Chevy guy id LS swap but putting a 2JZ motor in it would be cool also...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's an SA. Look at the 1st two letters of the VIN.
Please start washing the car from the top
Keep it ORIGINAL!
I’ve had three RX 7 and have had absolutely no problem with the engine. Please don’t swap out the engine
Lots of Rack and pinion No P/S in the early 80's!!!!! Not the best but true Road feel!!!!
id love to see you guys do a mk3 golf vr6 jetta or a mk4 or 5 R32
Coin collector here- that is a Bi-Centennial half dollar. The mint produced A LOT of them at the time, so unfortunately, they are worth face value.
Good job but bearing in mind the amount of dead animals in the car, I would have removed various parts to check underneath…
