Mike- this is the best video you have done in years! I became so engrossed in it I totally lost track of time, even where I was. With no exaggeration I really really enjoyed it!
I once asked a cross country trucker I know if he prefers sunrises or sunsets. His response was something of genius. "It really depends on what direction I'm driving. No one likes the sun in their eyes."

Most other travel UA-camrs are either: 1) A hopelessly generic couple channel going to "exotic" places and having all of the most average reactions and insights possible. 2) Sensationalist but ultra-repetitive "poverty p*rn", aka "look how bad these people have it! Look at the danger I'm getting myself into!" 3) People with clear political agendas pretending to show the "real" side of a place, and then only highlighting crime, homelessness, desolation and despair, pretending like everything else is just an act. There are literally only two travel channels I follow and Downie is one of them, because he's fresh, uplifting, diverse in his content and down-to-earth.
Mike, Believe me when I say this that you and Jeb Brooks are the only UA-camrs that make me genuinely laugh with the videos and moments you capture. You shine the light on the side of humanity that is so rare to see these days! Thanks for all the hard work and cheers to your next adventure!

5 minutes in, and this is already better than any episode of Outback Truckers. As an Aussie this makes me so happy. Everyone must do a trip across to Perth by road. I was so so happy to get to do that with my Father in a B-double. Even as a passenger, it was tiring, and I couldn't imagine doing it week after week like he did.
I've been waiting for this to be released, what an awesome combination. Epic episode, maybe slightly biased because I love trucking and am Australian and not that I'm a truckie, when you're driving vast distances, you always look out for where the trucks stop, because they know where the good stuff's at, maybe not bathrooms but that's the same everywhere, but you wear your flip thong flops and your feet will stay rather healthy lol. That would have been a special trip, Mike! great editing, I really enjoyed that. I love Johnno's 'Piano Man', a truckie with many hidden talents.
I loved watching this video. I had never realised that the Great Australian Bight was so close to the road. This trip was certainly different to your last trip chasing golf balls across the country. No huntsmen to scare the daylights out of you!! No camels to run over.
Love seeing how our Aussie cousins get things done. There’s maybe 2 miles of road in the whole of the uk straight and wide enough for one of those bad boys lol

I'm so glad this one was done and I came along for it. This was an absolute blast to watch. I got to see part of Australia that I never would have imagined. Johnno's personality was fantastic. You two got along so well and he had such a fun time with you. Did he ever decide if he is a sunrise or sunset kind of guy? Oh, and doing the twinsie thing with the roadhouse shirt absolutely broke me. I smiled and laughed through this whole video. Nearly and hour long in length was an extra bonus.

Nothing like a trip such as this to just see how beautiful, vast, and empty...outside the SE corner (Bris, Syd, Canberra, and Melbourne), our nation is. Johnno is a great representative for us as a people, friendly and funny :)

It was great to see a part of Australia that wasn't the usual New South Wa;es and Victoria. It seemed like all the roads were perfectly straight and the topography as flat as Kansas. Johnno was such a great, mellow travel companion.
The road isn’t the only one of the longest stretches of straight peices of road but the rail line through the Nulabour is the longest peace of straight railway line in the world
Brilliant content. Having lived in Western Australia and travelled across the country by road I passed many Road Trains. The exhilaration of over taking one of these behemoths is palpable!
Hubs is a retired truckie here in Aust, having driven from SA to WA. Mike your gunna learn some new words on this trip. Loving the video so far. Hubs is glued to the screen.
reminds me of going out with my dad when I was a kid. he was an owner operator and during the summer I'd get up at 4 in the morning and go on a haul with him.
Love your all adventure but this one just kept me a smile all along (jaws aching now :)) and him falling on steering on the straight long road..one of the many moments that brought a laugh. "Oh I forgot my bikinis" wow... Johnno is a real gem and glad you got to meet someone like him. God bless you Mike and be safe.

Amazingly well done video. I didn't see how long it was when i started watching on my TV on the couch. Well worth it. I sometimes watch Aussie Rules football in July/August so i knew about the temperature. People in the stands in coats and toques . Lesson learned 😊
Hey Johnno from Florida. I was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator and would love to have been a driver in Australia. I’m retired now but honestly I love the solitude of the open road and some really good peace and quiet. Here in Florida or in The States it’s really noisy. Cheers and Drive Safe!! Two legends one Truck! Awesome. My famiy had a truck company in northern NSW in Aus and Johnno reminds me of my late Uncle drove for 40 years. As a kid did a few trips with him. What a great episode thanks for the memories and that amazing countryside. Love it!

I was a truckdriver , farm help, logger and construction , drove dump trucks, grain trucks and concrete trucks and ran heavy equipment , it's a tough job long hrs, seeing you do a trip in a roadtrain was awesome, thought I'd share my experience , great video , I've always wanted to go to Australia ever since I was a kid and drive a roadtrain

On the canadian prairies they hook up to 3 trailers. I have watched drivers back into a slot with tandem trailers. Its poetry to watch
We have up to 4 trailers on the road but the roads we took could only have a length of 36.5 metres which meant only two trailers.
