    I just got the X-T5 as a replacement to the X-T2, and despite wanting it for photo usage, I’m loving the video capabilities. XGlad to see some others finding success on video AF, esp with the 16 and 56 considering those are the 2 lenses I use the most haha

      The X-H2S should track even better due to the faster readout of the stacked sensor allowing for more AF calculations per second.

    Here my test arrangement for still photography with Fuji. Would be great if you could confirm the inconsistent focus behavior. As you mentioned muddy photos in your last video I am pretty sure that it‘s the autofocus. I have tested almost every X camera except the X-T5 and X-H cameras. Every camera had the issue of inconsistent autofocus except the 16MP Contrast AF sensor (X-T1; X-100t) and apparently the 24MP Bayer pattern sensor in the X-t100 leaving you with a hit rate of approx. 70% with some camera and lens combos.
    Test arrangement:
    - Modern Fuji X-Camera with X-Trans sensor and Phase detect autofocus. (e.g. X-T4, X-Pro3…)
    - Place the camera on a sturdy object or use a tripod
    - use a standard lens from Fuji (e.g. 23mm f2, 35mm f2) ideally stopped down two stops so you can „track“ the sharpness in your images
    - activate the focusing scale in your menu so you can see the focusing inconsistency in real time
    -AF-S single point (use the second smallest focusing point)
    - focus on a subject in medium distance (approx. 5-10 meters) using a central focusing point
    - don‘t do the test in dark indoor rooms, it seems like the problem is occurring much more often in sunny conditions outside or in bright indoor areas
    - refocus/ half press the shutter button a couple of times and you will see the focusing scale jumping around significantly

    Awesome! Very helpful, and I agree, showing these tests without the cuts and edits (and crucially with the camera settings insert) makes it even more useful. Maybe in the back of our minds as people who make things we start thinking that if we haven’t added all the pizzaz we know how to add, then we are turning in something low effort and so low value? But this shows that’s not always true. Thanks, Omar. Hope you had fun making this one.

      24 fps is naturally jumpy. however, another issue is many monitors do not adjust frame rate on the subject being viewed. many are at 60 or 120 hz refresh rates so multiples of 30 will appear smoother. 24 has to have some frames dropped, causing jerky motion.

I need a suggestion which is i am currently using R5 Canon with RF lenses but the image quality of nikon Z7 or Z6 looks much better (relatively sharp and colorful) right out of the camera. I am thinking to switch to nikon. But whats holding me back is the focus system, especially eye auto focus or in general. I was thinking to wait for Z8 to launch, see its performance and then take the leap. What do you suggest. Thank you so much. Btw your videos are always fun and learning at the same time. Is there a way to say that focus is from 0 to 6 feets ? Thanks

    • @xJasterx
      @xJasterx 2 роки тому +2

      The A7IV is very hard to beat, honestly. It's using class leading AF tech from the A1 minus the stacked sensor.
      The only cameras that focus as well or better cost the same (R6 and R6 II) or cost wildly more (A1, A9 and A9 II, R5, R3.) Nikon can't compete with Sony and Canon, not even the Z9.
      Not to mention that it has features some of their video flagships (A7S3 and A1) lack like focus breathing compensation in video and the on screen video focal plane visualization called "Focus Map."
      It is an extremely good value proposition in my opinion.
      I left the Fuji system (X-T3) and moved to the A7IV and have not looked back.

    • @nicomphoto
      @nicomphoto 2 роки тому

      @@xJasterx thanks for your insight... I believe that you are right and think that sony's camera+lens options are excellent. There are excellent native options (at high prices) and amazing and budget friendly 3rd party solutions. This is what is holding me back from going ballck to Canon... The lenses. Either they are amazing and 2k€+ or just good, nothing in the middle for the moment... There just remains on issue for my, having held the a7iv, it just doesn't make me feel as much enjoyment as the xt3... Fuji's are just fun to shoot with ☺️

      @@m4rzia I'm afraid that it's one of the older and noisier lenses. I don't have personal experience with it but Google seems to return some confirmation to the focusing noise. I feel like compared to my X-E2s my X-E4 has a magenta cast in AWB (even more so when it is not sunny). And yes AWB is rather cold, which gets even more exaggerated when using the Classic Neg simulation (which I would like to use over Classic Chrome which was my go to before). Still struggling to dial in a recipe which would save me from having to edit from raw (which is basically very similar to Classic Neg but with the WB issue fixed) for more important photos like holidays or family events. The WB shift also helps only so much. For my "real" photos I edit from raw in b&w anyways.

    It’s really interesting, as a completely uninformed consumer, to wonder whether the potential issue regarding false confirmation of eye focus for stills is based on some internal code that “tells” the AF box to turn green separately from the lens-camera system that is actually adjusting focus. In other words, is there a problem of prematurely reporting focus (green box), or is the actual focus engine unable to reliably achieve eye focus? How does the newer Fujifilm system compare, in your experience, with the Nikon system? [Touch Life Studio recently posted an interesting video about the Z9 focus and tracking system.]

    • @lolno1474
      @lolno1474 2 роки тому +2

      video autofocus is about tracking what's in front of you. photo autofocus is about predictive algorithms. the camera can't see when the shutter closes, especially at extreme fps so the camera relies on predictions to try and compensate for the motion that can't be seen and the motion that occurs even as the shutter is closing.

But I guess if someone uses small but refined lenses often and does mainly stills, it would be a nice compact option. One other thing I didn't consider was that many may also like the separate retro dials instead of the PASM interface, but each has it's own advantages different people prefer more. There's always going to be differences, and I think Fuji is wisely treating product offerings like a business as they should, so they adjust certain features and price point. I had the x-t3 for years and now I’m using the x-h2 and I don’t regret my choice. When Fuji annonced their pasm decision for the x-h’s, I was 100% that I will never buy this BUT I tried the 2 x-h’s and I changed my mind! Why? The viewfinder! The grip!!! The custom modes (you need to spend sometimes before you have all the 7 modes cooked as you like). I think the learning curve with the x-h’s is a little be longer than the one with the x-t5.

    I like that you put link to fellow youtubers without being paid for it 🙌✌️❤️ you rock
    I love your channel, fun and didactic.
    And yes, fuji *should* reward you, you definitely convinced me to buy the xt-20 ;)
    Thank you for *not* being sponsored by squarespace (it's too much on other channels , I can't hear that anymore 😅🤣)
    Thank you for all from Paris 🥂

      @@ogonzilla The more "new stuff" that comes out I get less and less inspired. I keep the X-T3 for higher end work along with an X100F(brown) for fun. But... I find myself wanting to go back to an X-T20. To me... the best overall camera and sensor. 🙂
