Oh, just first tip is amazing. I bought x-pro 3 two months ago and I didn’t know until now that I can set different resolution for jpgs to one card and full raw to secondary.
Cancelled my Amazon preorder and booked one at my local camera store. Can’t wait 🤩 always love watching settings videos to see if I can pick anything up
@@jbivphotography Fujirumors has sources that said that since Amazon accidentally started preorders 12 hours early Fuji has published them with no shipments until post Christmas. This has resulted in all preorders (including mine) showing an early January date. I canceled and was able to get the camera elsewhere but its disappointing all around, I can't help but feel Fuji is really punishing their customers instead of Amazon.
Super helpful! I am on my third XT but still needed something like this as a review so that I could reacquaint myself with the menus and set up the basic functions.
Regarding your point at 1:35, p.120 of the Fujifilm X-T5 manual on LOSSLESS COMPRESSED "Quality is the same as UNCOMPRESSED but the resulting files are anywhere from about 30 to 90 percent of their uncompressed size." So there is no quality difference between LOSSLESS COMPRESSED and UNCOMPRESSED, hence the "LOSSLESS". For the COMPRESSED option there is a slight quality difference from the other two but probably noticeable for most people.
Very informative video. I sold all my Canon gear and bought the XT-5, Fuji 33 1.4, and Sigma 16 1.4 and 56 1.4. All of that was cheaper than the R5 I was going to upgrade to. I’m looking forward to this Fuji experience. Keep up the good content. Thanks
Most important for video: high ISO NR -4 or -3 and sharpness between -2 and -4, depending on what kind of project you're working on and the resolution (4k is much ß. Something more cinematic would require -4 sharpness, while usual video work can be a -2 or even a -1. At least that's what I do.
Waiting for my preordered XT5 to ship, I’m gonna keep my XT3 as my backup. I can’t wait to get my hands on the XT5. Hope you do a full XT5 review soon!
Great video! Thank you for going slowly enough for me to follow along and giving clear explanations. I’m a fairly experienced amateur wildlife and scenery photographer and loved your video. 👍🏼 I’m fairly new to FujiFilm cameras and my husband has the XT4 and my Christmas gift was the XT5with an awesome new zoom lens too. Long history with Canon but as I’m getting older, they are just too heavy for me to work with. Thanks again!
Thank you John! It's always helpful to get a professional's take on how to configure the various settings. I'm embarrassed to admit though, I leave the audio beep on for focus lock... Most of my photos are taken outdoors in the woods and fields, so only the squirrels here it. 😁
bookmarked! excited to get my XT5 this week, coming from XT20, will take time to learn and use these settings. Thanks for the vid. Question: I have a Lexar SD card 128 USH-II, can I use a 2nd SD Card Sandisk Extreme 128 USH-I ? Is it alright to mix SD card? Appreciate if you can answer this. Thank you.
Short question. You set your image quality to raw and then make all the settings for jpeg. This makes no sense for me because all the settings like grain, filmsimulation, etc only come to play in the jpeg.
Hello and thanks for the very interesting video as always! I have a problem, I wonder if I could please ask you for an opinion...? Could you tell me why since I switched to the XT5 (I had photos are not very clear...! I'm not talking about grain which above 3200 ISO has more due to the denser sensor... I blamed the lens I have at the moment, namely the 23mm f1.4 old version which certainly doesn't solve everyone the 40 megap... (I will change the lenses as soon as possible!) The shutter speeds are always above 1/160th of a sec. The only thing I never use is the stabilizer because I don't make videos and I almost never shoot at slow speeds... (do I hurt, should I activate it?) As software I use Lightroom. Thanks Roberto Ps. Sorry for my english...!
I've bought my handsome silver X-T5 yesterday. I was very happy until I found that the "Preview EXP/WB" didn't work. After some struggling it work, but the "AF ILLUMINATOR" doesn't work with the half press of shutter button in low light focusing most of the time. I took it back to the store for an exchange but I found that the other new one behaved the same. So I just keep my original X-T5 and hope that this problem will be solve by the future Fuji firmware.
Excuse me, my X-T5 is in the AF-C continuous focus mode. When the shutter is half-pressed, the brightness of the camera screen will be relatively dim. When the shutter is released, it will be restored. Is there a setting error? Do you have the same situation, thank you for your answer.
Bro, I want to ask, how to adjust the ISO aperture and SS settings in photo mode so that when you switch to video mode, the ISO aperture and SS don't change, how do you do it... the problem is that the X-H1 fits even when you move to photo/video mode, the ISO aperture and SS settings remains the same. If the X-t5 switches to video aperture mode, etc. it changes again
Hi I have an xt3 and I have a video focusing question I want to be able to Use touch to focus while recording video but when in manual mode it wont let me. When I change focusing to S mode I can touch to fucus while recoding but cant see any focus peaking I want to be able to use Focus peaking and touch to focus while recording in 1 mode, how can I achieve this? Thank you
John have you had any focus issues since the last firmware update. My XT5 is giving false confirmation on eye / face detect. I’m using single point and using the joystick to just settle on the eye. I shoot portraits. Any thoughts? Hoping next firmware will fix this.
Because I mainly use single point AF I haven't ran into all of the issues that everyone is talking about. However, I have recently started to try and use eye auto focus more and I have seen some back focusing and different things.
I have a question for you that you can probably answer better than anybody, what kind of SD card do you recommend for the XT5? I am currently using 2 SanDisk extreme pro cards in my XT3. I’m hoping I don’t have to drop the extra dough for the UHS-II versions for the XT5 as I don’t really don’t do video and rarely do machine gun style. I would rather spend the money on more storage than faster cards. And they SanDisk extreme pros have been pretty great up until now in my XT3 and x100V. I’m just hoping I can get away with the UHS-I in my XT5 for portraits and family photos.
Hi John. Thank you for being such an amazing fujifilm mentor! I just got the XT5. I have been shooting professionally (mostly weddings and portraits) with and XT4 and and XPro 3. I have a question. I'm not sure if you use lightroom in post, but I just brought my first raw files into lightroom classic and the film simulations seem to be missing. Is this because lightroom doesn't recognize the XT5 yet? Even classic negative (which I use for all of my editing) is gone. Also missing Sepia, Nostalgic negative, bypass etc... Any insight is appreciated. Thank you! -Heather
You should be able to click on "Color Profile" and change it from "Adobe Standard" to one of the X-T5 film simulations under the camera matching group. You can change Lightroom to default to camera settings instead of Adobe Color on import as well.
Hey :) I just bought the xt5 and it is my first fuji camera. I am following your set up but I am stuck at changing the dynamic range and D range priority. I already tried to switch the little button in front from s to m to c but it doesn't let me change it :/ can somebody help me?
I think it has to do with ISO number if it is higher above 500 maybe…it should work. Not 💯 on the number but once you get above/below it DR should start to work.
Man I’m torn, I want an xt5 mainly for the traditional controls and the lenses seem so much more affordable than the Nikon z system I was going to get, but I’m not sure if I’m better off going full frame right away with a Sony a7iv or something, I’m not invested in any camera lens ecosystem and I’m new to digital photography but I shot film for years, had my own darkroom even but i don’t know a ton about digital, I read such mixed things about FF vs APS-c that I’m just not sure what to do. Any input would be appreciated.

How’re you adjusting to the switch?
How you've been dealing with the fact that fuji has an aperture ring but sigma does not? Are you able to adapt easily on the fly while shooting?
Great video, one note high ISO NR should be -4 for “off” not 0
With the better battery, I do turn on Boost mode for enhanced performance. Excellent stuff John.
Interesting. Actually maybe I should try that out. Do you feel like yo really see the difference in having it in boost mode?
Will be saving this vid for when I inevitably sell my X-T3 to buy the X-T5 😂

What do you usually shoot? Are you pro/how dependent are you on AF/are you a hybrid shooter?
