Well everyone, it’s been just over 9 Years now since this job was done and everything still looks great today on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 - like there has never been a dent before. So, yes, Gerald did an awesome job! Thanks for all the comments (positive and negative) … of course I like the positive ones, but the negative ones were helpful as well because I realize that the format with all my questions annoyed some people, some of whom expressed that by basically calling me every swearword under the sun. But that’s OK, I simply set up a filter to eliminate the worst ones. But a word to the haters who complain about me asking “stupid questions” - I agree that I could have done it better, but you should know that this is exactly the format that Gerald and I agreed upon how we would do the video. He would work and I would prompt him to explain what he is doing by asking questions. The Q&A are all intentional so we could make a teaching video for those who have never done this kind of work before. So, rather than Gerald talking all the time we decided that I would ask the type of questions a person might have who is a complete beginner at bodywork and Gerald would then answer by explaining what he is doing so others can learn from it. And I think we were able to achieve that because as of today the video has had 10,831,961 views, which I means that some people out there must have found it helpful - thnx to all who watched it.
Thanks for filming the video, and thanks for coming back to let us know how it looks now. I just watched this video today and found it really cool and informative. The guy obviously cares about his work, kudos to both of you! Glad it is holding up.
WELL YOU DID GREAT MISTER KNAUBER AND SO DID GERALD. THOSE WITH THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ARE BITTER PEOPLE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO BE MISERABLE ABOUT. GERALD DID A GREAT JOB AND THE QUALITY OF HIS JOB LOOKS GREAT. BY FILMING YOU HELPED OTHERS THAT ARE LOOKING INTO DOING THE SAME THING OR ARE LEARNING.. FANCASTIC I SAY FIND GERALD AND MAKE AND OTHER VIDEO IF NOT A BUNCH MORE....
Hats off to this guy being able to work with someone standing behind him and looking over his shoulder asking a thousand questions. I felt so sorry for him but he kept his cool
This guy was so cool to let you record and ask him all the questions you wanted and explained in detail and is was cool & chill didn't looked like he was bothered. Plus he did a great job
This guy is legit. The way he steps back looking at the work and feels the metal has the same look that we get as professional carpenters, he's just all business serious about what he does and cares and it shows
@@daxvid82 It would be a “spot welder” that welds the pins to the car so that you can pull on the dents. I would think a quality setup for the tool(without supplies like pins) would start around $500. I’m sure the professional setups are more and can go way up in price. In the video Gerald used a mobile version that can be carried along. Some are on carts or mounted in a shop. “Unispotter”
Good morning. I've worked in the autobody world for nearly 30 years I am a professional fiberglasser. And I can tell you firsthand I've seen a lot of auto bodywork this guy is very good amazingly good I would hire him in a moment. My sincere compliments to Gerald the body man as well as The cameraman. I appreciated this video it deserves five stars I hope Gerald has a very successful life he seems like a very nice man and a very hard worker. God bless both of you be safe.
Dude... you are the Mike Tyson of paint, the Mozart of bodywork... truly remarkable work for inside or outside, you are extremely talented and its obvious you know exactly what you are doing. Wish you lived near me, I sure as hell would give you business.
What a bunch of haters. The man did what he was paid to do. He took pride in his work. Customer is happy. I'm sure if he was in a cozy heated and ventilated shop with booth he would of done it differently. Its been 2 years and no issues so like I said, he did what he was paid to do. Well done!
Wow this guy is really good, a pro without doubt. He has a lot of pride in his work. Wish all mobile repair guys would view this. An expert in his field. This community is lucky if he is representative of how guys work in this area. I give Gerald an A +++ for workmanship and customer satisfaction. He really knows how to give all the extras. Far exceeds all expectations of workmanship. I like this guy.
Yes, I agree with Mike James!!! He should consider having his own channel !!!I found it great information for doing a some minor repairs on a typical daily driver !!!It certainly gives us some good step x step information to consider if we were to tackle a panel repair or touch up work on our cars !!:-)
Dislikes? If there were that many dislikes it was because of the guy asking the ALL the questions! Gerald was kind and very generous with his knowledge. He didn't have to do that. Great job Gerald!
This guy is fantastic!!!, I've worked in a body shop metal department and worked on Bentley's, Ferrari's and Aston Martin's, this guy is a great all rounder, remember a perfect flat clearcoat repair makes the factory finish stand out. This guy may not be perfect to some of you but then its all done outside man! I bet he would get better results than most so called professional bodyshops with a booth, this guy gets 10 out of 10 for me.
This was the best example of a person who truly love what they do, This guy has a value that's unmeasurable, his patients with the client prove to be just that.. I hope he was compensated beyond his initial offer.
Superb job, especially for something that was done out in the open. That's true craftsmanship! I don't understand the people who are putting negative comments. It's an older budget car, I'm not sure what people expected. Having to go to a body shop to get the same amount of work done, maybe it would have been a little bit better but it would have probably cost the value of the car.
Some people cannot afford shop prices and some people cannot afford shop rent, Smart guy, and he knows what he's doing and hes doing it the proper and correct way. Its always good to support a local guy who comes to you.
The amount and quality of work Gerald gets through amazed me. I'm tired just watching the effort he expends. Then cuts and polishes the rest of the car. And does the bumper for nothing. What kind of super-hero have you found? Staggering!
i know of a high school that did away and closed up shop for there auto body program. we might need less but if we do i get your point we need guys like him
Hi Gerald, great job, you make a hard job look very simple your skills and creativity speaks for itself. Thank you so much for keeping your prices low and affordable for so many people and still get super great quality and honesty. Again thank you so very much
I have been doing auto body repair for 35 years and very rare do I find someone who does mobile auto body work that is a genuine auto body repair mechanic, this guy is genuine. I saw the buckle above the line in the quarter and thought he would miss it but he didn't. I saw the stretched metal at 4:03 buckling and he worked it out. If he had a truck with a heavy duty 9 ton trailer set up for frame pulls that was enclosed with pull out walls he could have a amazing business but he would still need to be a registered repair facility with the state. it is because so many people cob & rip people off that it makes it hard on a guy like this.
Yeah he's so great. Anybody worth their salt in this trade would have that done in one spead, down to 500. Not three. This guy wouldn't last a week where I work.
Yea what was that spreading the filler over and over I was like uhhhh with that little narrow spot putty spreader. But the job turned out pretty nice for a less expensive alternative than paying whole shop prices. Today the shop owner makes all the money the tradesman gets screwed. same flat rate per hour as we got in the 80s. that is BS. I like how this guy says up yours shop I am doing it myself.
Fact.. Shop owner today makes the lesser amount of money. Far less % than 'the 80's in fact. The 'full' cost of overhead, acquisition/maintenance of assets, including employee retention perks, the latest EPA restrictions, let alone the latest insurance mandates, health care and future liabilities against unforeseen judgements, account for the far higher costs of ICAR certified brick and mortar, than a free range DIY, one man operation. Try doing the books for a year, paying the taxes, the bills, and learn the 'entire' process. Reason that most remain Tradesmen, rather than owners of shops with dozens of unpredictable employees.... and customers.
Correct. Damn shame because he's so friggin' good. Matter of fact, he can expect a job offer or three from this video because guys like him don't grow on trees.
I am very busy man but the first 2 minutes fascinated me so much to watch it all and see the final product. To me, he has done a great job! I have seen many body shops but never seen same day paint job.
I also was a professional auto re-finisher for a long time. This guy does a great job. A matrix does not require the same level of detail and quality as a Ferrari. He does a fantastic job and delivered exactly what was expected of him. He should start his own youtube channel.
Daniel Nation no way.any good panel beater knows you should never Put body filler over raw metal as it easily attracts moisture and will Rust quicker it will also cause the filler will prematurely crack.he should Have primered it first before putting filler on. He's semi-pro😆
All my respect to Gerald 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Professionalism and knowledge combined, which will make any client call him back for any other job with total confidence. Guys like him can go very high, and I hope Gerald goes beyond on his career. Respect Mr Gerald .
Great video. We need more people in this world like this guy. He should be paid atleast what the body shops quoted with all of the extras he did. Times are tough but we never want to take advantage of another. Thank you for sharing to remind me of this.
I learned a lot and refresh again my little knowledge about this work for maybe 35yrs ago. Thank you Gerald for your sharing knowledge to other like me. You make it simple than it should. God Bless you more with your family. ❤️🙏
I also stumbled on to this video and I can't believe I watched the whole thing! I just couldn't stop watching. I guess I couldn't believe you could do such a good job outside, in a driveway, but he did.
@@drjude5185 it's not the point..... dude.... point is, that this hovering guy is not really helping, in fact just the contrary... but despite this inconvinience this guy is going on eith his job, and doing it pretty well indeed
i'm a Tradesman , and I love seeing good people practicing their craft , and doing a great honest job . I really enjoyed this . your a great body man , and seem like a great guy . best of luck in the future Gerald !
Well done job, you call him for the rear quarter panel job, and basically he workout the entire vehicle, I hope you have been generous with him, hard working man
I owned a body shop and garage over 30 years, I would hire this guy on the spot.from watching him work, he Knows what he is doing. The hammer is a good tool, it gives better control when working thin gauge sheet metal than a slide hammer. I always prefer my primer dry for 24 hrs, but in his environment he will have to use a fast dry additive. I can tell by the color of his filler he is using good quality materials.
Should've at least paid him full price. He didn't just fix it, he gave you a detailed lesson on how to do it. Guaranteed he would've done it in half the time if you wouldn't have been there pestering him. What a bucket.
I watched the entire video, not even realizing it was an hour-long video. I thank both Martin and Gerald. It was entertaining, educating, and refreshing. As for Gerald, nice job. Nice job.
2600 body shop owners gave this a thumb’s down. 😄Gerald is a genuine artist, and it’s a pleasure to see his professionalism in action. This would absolutely be worth a thousand dollars.
If the body shop was going to charge $1000+, and Gerald did this job for a “fraction” of the price then Gerald doesn’t charge enough. Excellent work, Gerald. Raise your prices. You deserve it.
No, Gerald is an honest Godsend. Wish all mechanics and body techs were like him, and maybe we'd all have affordable auto insurance premiums, powertrain payments. Anyone who, has negative criticism about this man's work has to be in the same industry and you are a greedy... just plain greedy.
And he polished the whole car ? Wow, I’ve been a Detailer for years and this was boss work. I promise you a pro Detailer would’ve charged you a lot more just for polishing the car. This was awesome
Yup. I do high end detailing and 100% guarantee my compound and polish job would be more expensive than what he got paid for this job. I’d also have done a flawless job. Holograms will start showing up within a month, and those headlights will be back to looking like crap in under a year because he didn’t apply a good UV protectant
@@williamstru2119 the original poster commented that it has been over a year now and still looks great. Maybe you should take this time to learn from Gerald. Cause he did a great job the whole job.
All I could add he did one excellent job. Whatever he was paid he earned it. Really great to see someone willing to do a job to the best of his abilities. I hope he gets tons of extra work , he is worth it.
Thanks, Martin for posting... and putting up with all sorts of comments. I do remember seeing this back this when it only had a couple million views that you mentioned you got his permission and blessing to "hover and film him working." It's a testament to both of you guy's professionalism. Thanks also to the viewers who have left encouraging comments. I think we all appreciate those best even though we could all use a little constructive critique sometimes. On to ten million views :)
I really feel like you took advantage of this man. The price the body shop quoted you would have included only the dent repair. This man went WAY above and beyond, and didn't get so much as a referral, in your video. Gerald did an amazing job. You owe him.
How often do you pay folks more when they quote you a price?? The guy did his job, nothing above and beyond. He's good at what he does and he got paid what he was OWED. Good grief...
All those thumbs down were by people who can’t mix Bondo by the right proportions..lol..I’m guessing petty jealousies or trolls who, when asked to sit through an hour of an educational video can only handle enough time that is required to hit the thumbs down button
I think it's for the fact that he was not helping the guy by giving up his information so he could get more client, but instead used someone's work to get views for his channel..
Gerald should have charged full price plus 100% more for doing an instructional video for this dude. But anyway, great job Gerald. Great job on the repair and great job on keeping your cool with Mr. Kayak builder in your ear.
What a pleasure to watch this guy work. He is brilliant & takes pride in doing the best. I now have a good understanding of Auto Bodywork & Paint Job !!
I'm doing smart repair for over 11 years..this guy make a good job with this tools..if he had better tools it will be much better.. At the end , people must respect the work.if you guys can do it better, "show us"! Best regarts from Germany..
Imagine if a doctor said this to you while checking your kid in.. Some of us appreciate our vehicles a bit more than others. I know...I KNOW its a factory matrix.. got it.. Im just saying.. Not all vehicles are loved equally. juuuuust sayin
As a welder I have to admit there isnt an amount of money you could pay me to get the right to stand there and grill me while I try to do the job you hired me for.
I don't know many body people that would enjoy having a camera follow them around as there messaging a body smooth. This is a very timely and patient job.
You get what you pay for. In this case he paid to have his car restored and not paying the light bill, water bill, insurance etc at the other shops. This guy looks and acts pretty honest to me, plus he has the owner breathing down his neck. This guy has the patience of a saint, I wish him well. Ken...Marina CA
The Q&A are all intentional so we could make a teaching video for those who have never done this kind of work before. Rather than Gerald talking all the time we decided that I would ask the type of questions a person would have who is a complete beginner at bodywork and Gerald would then answer what he is doing.
some questions were okay but others were too much.... I couldn't work like this with owner behind but hey the video came out nice in the end we all learned end to end process so I appreciate that !!!
Great job at showing all the steps in doing all these procedures. And the answers he gave pretty much sums up what and why ! No steps were skipped and everything was done properly.Thumbs up to the video and the bodyman!
This guy has less then $100 in cost in this job. He made $300 a day. The client is happy and I'm sure he told his friends. 300 bucks a day, 5 day week. Guys making at least 1500 bucks a week, thats a decent living and he's free. He doesn't have to work for the man. Much respect to him.
Firstly, I'd imagine he had more than $100 tied-up in the job. And, it prolly took longer than one day since it's apparent he shaved and got a haircut before the second half the video was shot. I can't imagine he complained about his respirator not fitting well, then decided to head to the barber shop during his lunch break. Gerald did an awesome job > it was worth a couple more C-notes. Wish he lived near me!
I Wouldnt have charged no less than $800 for everything he done. That was probably a 8hr dent and 4hr of paint work. Just buffing a car and waxing it can cost you $200. The initial out of pocket cost to do a job like that is goin to put you back quite a bit, plus a license, insurance fees, etc. Just a gallon of some good clear can run you $4-600
They discussed and agreed to this great and VERY informative video being made before the job started...I'm probably asking the impossible, but try and think before commentating...
Man, I think I grew a beard watching this. Can't believe this guy did all this, multiple coats, drying in between, whether he used a dryer or not, in 1 day! Wow! Good for Gerald👍👍
Wow, that guy is amazing! If you have ever had a car painted by a shop, it comes back looking super dirty and a total mess inside. This guy made the whole car look like new.
Gerald you have more patience than me I used to make my living as a body repair Tech and if a customer came into my work area and just started watching me I would put the tools down and take a break until the customer left. I dont believe I could do what you did here without tearing my hair out.
I've not only painted them (far to many to remember) but I've also won awards in car shows with ones I've painted too. I just wanted to add... this guy did a bang up job. I do hope you paid him extra for the education cause... well... teachers get paid you know. And not only did he explain every step but he also gave you a copy of the entire inventory of products that he uses and that is an education in and of itself.
Blessings, Gerald is a master of his craft and will never have to look for work. Once you master something, then comes time to become perfect. In my personal opinion, Gerald can make a junkyard car look brand new. We need more masters that are perfectionist! Gerald went over the entire car and fixed all imperfections he could find to make the final result be a showroom finish. Incredible Work Gerald; this a true skill set you possess! Peace & Blessings, Peace
What a fantastic work ethic the guy has...he certainly puts in a days shift for his money and so knowledgeable on his subject...a real treat to watch him in action.
It's a pain in the backside to work with that new thin sheet metal after it's been stretched in like that. It's pretty common to have to rework it a few times to get it to stick where it's supposed to. sometimes ya have to leave it and use filler to adjust. This dude knows what he is doing and works well with what he has. Pretty sure anyone hating on him is affiliated with a over priced body shop or was spoon-fed arrogance when they where growing up. I would hire this guy.
I see a lot of people putting this guy down. For $250 I wouldn't have even considered touching this but, this dude does it and he's mobile. He did an awesome job, especially being watched the entire time. There will always be haters!!! Gerald your awesome, good job!!!! I have been in the car business for 20 years, in body shops they do more jacked up work than this dude and he was honest!!!
I did body work for several years and Your are right. This Guy was very meticulous and spent hours sanding and resanding to get rid of minor imperfections. He spent alot of money in materials, He spent alot of time. He was in a less then friendly environment and did a far superior job then 99% of the best body shops in America. I salute you Gerald, You Are Awesome.. Way underpaid.. Awesome finished product.. Haters be hating!!!
nice to see a masterful tradesman doing hard honest work who is also a saint for walking us all through this in what must have been an entire day, respect
Gerald is very smart. Not only very capable but also realised that this video could well end up on UA-cam giving him some free advertising so did an extraordinary amount of work to show off all his skills and enthusiasm.
Looked like a decent job to me, he did great even though he didn't have a multitude of tools, most insulting comments I've seen here are not needed, some people can't admit that they can be topped by a mobile repair, this kid did as good as some professional shops I know and even some local dealership hacks that call themselves body/paint facilities. I'd hire the kid at my shop!
decent sounds about right, the lack of blending into the door bugs me as I can see the color shift between panels at the end, but it's also a Matrix and there bumpers rarely matched there fenders so I guess it doesn't matter much given the crap quality control from the factory.
KiD, clearly you are blind, compare the quarter to the passenger side rear door at 55:30 he didn't "blend" shit, he resprayed the quarter with the door and bumper taped off so there are sharp edges where the tone of the paint is a visibly different shade
I’ve watched a lot of vids on here, this is one of the best. Props to Gerald for doing it under watchful eyes. Really appreciate a guy out there hustling to make living In a low overhead way and passing along the savings to the paying customer.
Excellent job!!! I have done bodywork and painting for myself and friends and family in the past. It is a rewarding job to do if you have the patience and skill. I found it rewarding to see a vehicle go from rags to riches before my eyes. 98% of the job is all prep work and the rest is actually squirting the paint which is a whole nother skill set. You really have to know your products and how to use it to spray on so you get it to flow to a nice smooth finish and not to have that "orange peel" finish. i wouldn't have the patience to have someone hanging over my shoulder asking me questions like this. I hope he charged enough to buff and polish this guys car as well as refinish his headlights which wouldn't be part of the original repair he was there for. Detailing this car is not part of the job for repairing the dent. You would NEVER get this kind of service from a body shop without having to pay through the nose for this kind of repair. This is the kind of service you would have received about 40 years ago. Love his air compressor, very quiet!!!
This was an excellent video for the guys like me who like to learn and try it myself. Well done and very informative. Body shops have to charge more because of the expensive overhead. Gerald did a very good job and saved Martin a lot of money.
Watched this video and i'm really impressed. Gerald you a truly a master at your craft. The lengths some artisans have to go through to bring home a paycheck.
Martin Thank you for posting this. You asked the questions we were all thinking. so these people who are complaining don't realize the value of this. Thanks again.. Gerald you are an artist.
I loved the video, fell in love with Gerald. "Going through the grits" OMG! Peeking behind the curtain, I learned a lot. Gerald is an artist, Thx from 68 yr old G-ma.
Dynamite job Gerald. Doing mobile body work isnt a cake walk . I defy any of the keyboard crybabies to even be able to sand a board let alone do what this guy did and made it look great
I didn't have much faith in this, however after seeing the great work and results, I'm most definitely sold on this fellow's workmanship. I believe he's got some great talent and hope he continues to do what he's doing..... great work!
Here is an update to all those critics out there: This job is now several years old (the job was done on Oct 16, 2015), and it still looks absolutely perfect!! Gerald did an awesome job … and NO! he didn’t use Bondo, even though that’s what it may have looked like. And concerning the criticism about the wet-sanding - that is not a problem at all if you let it dry properly before continuing to the next step. As for the costs: Yes, I saved a ton of money and that was my objective for an old car like that. Why on earth would I want to pay 4x the price for a fix-it-job on a car that old?? All that to say, I am still very happy with the work Gerald did and so far it is holding up very good.
what brand of body filler says you can wet sand it? I have been in doing body work for 12 years now not once have I seen a body filler saying you can wet sand it. I know that everyone has their own way but body filler absorbs moisture it would take a lot more than one day to dry it out. also why would you wet sand it in the first place I see no benefits in wet sanding body filler. not being mean but maybe that is why he is mobile and don't work for a shop I don't know of any shop that would keep a guy that wet sands body filler. yes you may be happy with how the car turned out but also you should understand that body shops charge more cause they stand behind there work and it will last the life time of the car yes you saved money does that mean everyone should have there cars fixed outside with no filtration of the paint into the air there is reasons why shops charge more part of it being pollution control. also when I get insurance jobs that have had bumper repairs done like that it ends up costing more to fix cause the paint normally chips off in the area that was blended well prepping it for new paint half the time I see that it is more cost effective to get a new bumper rather than spend the time involved with fixing a parking lot repair. for your car it's your car if you are happy that's all that matters but please people don't wet sand filler if you want to learn how to do body work look up Eastwood or look up the brand of products you are using there is plenty of professional videos showing the proper way to do everything right here on UA-cam
Here is a reply I got from Gerald regarding the wet sanding: "It would be an opinion thing I would say. I don't have a problem with somebody wet sanding or not wet sanding. The potential issue is loss of adhesion of filler to the body panel caused from rust in between the filler and the panel. But it would take for the water to be continually there. I dry the filler before moving to the next step then I prime when dry. I understand their argument, but I have yet to have a problem doing it this way as opposed to the problem you get from dry sanding and all the dust that is created. The key is to make sure the filler is dried out before moving on. That's my opinion."
so how does he make sure it's dry all the way to the metal it absorbs moisture soak a sponge in water and without using anything but air from one side it would take days to get that water dry. wouldn't it just be easier to wash the car after it is primed not to judge people by how they do there work and the way they get there final results but I also haven't seen anyone fix dents before with a 5 dollar carpenter hammer why wouldn't he invest in real metal working hammers if that's his job. just saying if someone showed up to work on my car with roofing tools I wouldn't buy into anything his professional opinion tells you his tools speak for his professional opinion. I'm sticking with what manufacturers of body fillers say and that is dry sand only not trying to be negative just saying do it right or why do it at all. no reason to go against the manufacturer that has spent hundreds of thousands on research and development of there product cause you believe that they are wrong and wet sanding is better when you know for a fact that dry sanding gives you 0 possibility for the issues that not drying the filler out all the way would cause. just want people to know enough not to wet sand their own projects filler dust sucks wear a mask and clean up when you are done research products before using them and avoid issues 100 percent.
Of course the manufacturer would say 'no' to wet sanding because they don't want to get sued if somebody does wet sand and then has problems later because they didn't dry the thing properly. But, if in reality there never turns out to be problem then the whole issue realy is a moot point. And as I said, Gerald's work is now just about one year old and still looks perfect - so I couldn't care less. As far as I'm concerned Gerald dried everything just fine with a heat-gun and did a great job on my old car. Remember this is not a $300K Ferrari but a 2008 Matrix!
well its a first for me never seen anyone do it and I'm not a rookie in the auto body industry wet sanding all together has gone away it's a out dated practice only thing that gets wet sanded now days is clear coat and most people dry sand clear coat now really no benefit in wet sanding anything now days unless you want wet feet like I said I'm happy your job turned out it don't take much moisture at all to make the paint blister. I don't think the body filler industry has any concerns about being sued by people using the fillers wrong and getting poor results they are not liable for using it incorrect body filler has talc in it that is a moisture absorbing powder they don't want it being wet sanded for that reason same as being exposed to high humidity. only reason I'm saying it shouldn't be wet sanded is for other people that watch this you say you are happy with how the car turned out that is great don't mean everyone should wet sand filler no one should lol. I have seen it hundreds of times where people have body filler on there car and it gets hit again cracking the old filler leaving a small space for moisture to get to the filler when I sand it off there is rust everywhere under the filler I'm not saying his work didn't turn out good I was kinda shocked to see him using water base paint and not a cheap brand. I always here people say people do it wrong in the body shop world I am the first to admit that there is hundreds of different opinions on how to do body work and get good results I am not trying to argue with you on weather it's right or wrong it just simply should not be done and there is no benefit to it
M C Anderson That’s the easy part for me I have worked with epoxy and polyethylene bondo por a long time, but painting has its tricks to make it perfect,
I think Gerald has a little obsessive compulsive disorder in him.....lol. He does stuff over and over and it is so good to watch him perfect his trade and even go the extra mile. It was almost therapeutic. I hope he got paid for all the times he stopped to explain. I would drive 200miles to have him paint my truck. Excellent job.....! Sorry i cant give more thumps up coz i got only two.
Man, you're the guy who'd come back to the shop and bitch because you didnt think it was perfect. This is how the job is supposed to be done, it's not ocd. It takes a patient person, willing to do all the right steps to do this kind of work. A friend of mine does this for a living, he's amazing. There has to be attention to detail in every step. If not you can see the imperfections. Go to a macco body shop and watch those guys for a hot minute. Do yourself a favor though, dont be like the camera man in this video
Wow. Great body work vid. I stopped and made some popcorn, invited a few of my friends, two that are body men and enjoyed it almost to the end when it came to the paint and Finnish. Too much beer and difference of opinion turned into fist fight with the cops showing up. 3 guys arrested for public intoxicating After taking out the trash and sweeping up the scattered popcorn, I hit play and finished watching your video. Thank you so much for sharing.
This is a guy that isn't a "pro". But, knows what he's doing. He's clearly been doing it for a long while, and knows works and what doesn't. He works for himself. He doesn't punch in and punch out at a shop. He doesn't say "Oh, I have the car for 3 days. I can finish it tomorrow, or the day after. I can bleed this job for X amount of hours". He did a bunch of stuff that I , personally, wouldn't have done. But, client is happy (it's been about a year). Job is holding up. I don't get all the hate.
I don't even know how I ended up on this video, but I have to say this guy is awesome for doing this all outdoor with bugs and wind. That guy earned whatever you paid him. You said a fraction of what the other body shops wanted. I would definitely recommend that dude to anybody I knew. Didn't even break a sweat either
I have three cousins that I know of, that have body shops in New Mexico. Most body repair artist have a talent. Gerald showed his talent, by first going mobile, second charging less, and going all out on polishing every aspect. This is because he enjoys giving a break from his heart and because of less overhead. It is always good to see one human being helping another human being, especially in our turmoil days here on Global Earth: 2023 and hopefully our world will go on further and safely. Sir, for making this video, at first I just thought you were being nosey, but you just wanted to share and I personally learned a lot, even though I am 72 years old, today. Great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙈🙊🙉🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
For a mobile guy he did a very professional job. Its rare to find this kind of quality in a mobile guy. And i thought its quite cool on the tack wielder i am used to using the slide hammer
Awesome job !!!! Man he did a great job. I learned Allot . Listen with all do respect he deserved the full price for giving you lessons while he was working cause you definitely slowed him down.
Martin Knauber THANKS FOR THE VIDEO GERALD IS A MASTER CRAFTMAN HANDS DOWN UEVEN MOTIVATED HIM TO SHAVE ON DAY 2
The only stupid question is the one that you do not ask
Thanks for filming the video, and thanks for coming back to let us know how it looks now. I just watched this video today and found it really cool and informative. The guy obviously cares about his work, kudos to both of you! Glad it is holding up.
Thanks for the video. Helped a lot
I’m sure Gerald didn’t mind. It’s probably gonna help him as far as the video. I don’t think Gerald could’ve videoed himself doing all this work.
But I get it😊
Gerald should have his own UA-cam channel. I would certainly love to see more of Gerald's work. Give this a thumbs up if you agree.
up 👍🏾
I agree
Whos Gerald?
@@chaelodoul9401 a guy called gerald :)
Hi what that putty Being used?
This guy is an absolute saint for working through all of your questions.
Agreed. He has the patience of Job
especially with the tone of his questions seemed kind of disrespectful toward the repair person.
This
This guy was so cool to let you record and ask him all the questions you wanted and explained in detail and is was cool & chill didn't looked like he was bothered. Plus he did a great job
And he fixed all your little imperfections cool of him we're is he located if he is around my area would love to do touch ups on my truck
He was a little bothered about twice with the questions
But didn’t show it much
And for the most part cool, professional and detailed
This is impressive...was not expecting a mobile body repair to actually be so detailed and correct. Hell of a job.
He would not deviate from " Best possible result " , by machine. The Guy is the Best.
I watch this video once every few months to remind me that there are still, Good, Honest Men working hard for a Living!..BRAVO!
Well said my friend. This guy truly takes pride in his work.

This guy is legit. The way he steps back looking at the work and feels the metal has the same look that we get as professional carpenters, he's just all business serious about what he does and cares and it shows
Hello. Sorry but what is that uni spotter??? It doesn't seem to be a nailgun. I didn't see on amazon any. Any idea or info? Thanks.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very good work Gerald I enjoy watching
⁰0⁰p
Dude... you are the Mike Tyson of paint, the Mozart of bodywork... truly remarkable work for inside or outside, you are extremely talented and its obvious you know exactly what you are doing.
I came here to see a quick and easy method to body repair. I stayed and watched a man work his ass off all day. Good work!
Respect to Darryl,he is a pro and without the fancy tools....
Definitely he must create his own channel, the world is needing him!!!!
Well said this guy should have his own channel.
Yes, I agree with Mike James!!! He should consider having his own channel !!!I found it great information for doing a some minor repairs on a typical daily driver !!!It certainly gives us some good step x step information to consider if we were to tackle a panel repair or touch up work on our cars !!:-)

Love watching people who take pride in doing an excellent job
5.7K dislikes SMH. Gerald, you're a beast my friend! I hope this video has kept you busy over the past five years. God Bless
Dislikes? If there were that many dislikes it was because of the guy asking the ALL the questions! Gerald was kind and very generous with his knowledge. He didn't have to do that. Great job Gerald!
I just watched two Canadians address a dent in a car for an hour and I regret nothing. Great video lads!
Same 🤌
This guy is fantastic!!!, I've worked in a body shop metal department and worked on Bentley's, Ferrari's and Aston Martin's, this guy is a great all rounder, remember a perfect flat clearcoat repair makes the factory finish stand out.
Staggering!
What ever you paid this guy, he was under paid. We need more people like him.
broderp 😂
i know of a high school that did away and closed up shop for there auto body program. we might need less but if we do i get your point we need guys like him
To underpay them??
Yes let's all take advantage to people! No thanks.
I have my dealers license out of indiana and i could use this guy for my Manheim pickups

I spent 15 years as a professional painter and was around a body shop as a teenager. This guy is a professional for sure.

Daniel Nation no way.any good panel beater knows you should never
Put body filler over raw metal as it easily attracts moisture and will
Rust quicker it will also cause the filler will prematurely crack.he should
Have primered it first before putting filler on. He's semi-pro😆

@The Portrait Guy ad revenue in 2021? nice joke buddy
I must admit I was a little skeptical at first but this guy proved me wrong. HE IS AWESOME!
This repair guy has the patience of a saint having to explain every little step to this guy.

Scott Witkowski but he is the best at what he does, not everyone can do what he can do
Scott Witkowski -
He doesnt make much considering the hours and skill he put it.
Just a gallon of some good clear can run you $4-600
Patience of a saint, making an awesome job with that bellend chirping in your ear. He deserves a medal.

Gerald is very smart. Not only very capable but also realised that this video could well end up on UA-cam giving him some free advertising so did an extraordinary amount of work to show off all his skills and enthusiasm.
And now everyone expect a free polish ;p
@@DanielRichards644 Are you blind? His blending was great.
Overhead maybe, go look at owners house and see if they are mayink overhead or a killing.

@@_Common_Logic_ Hey dumbass...he means "make Gerald famous". The irony of your yt name is incredible.
It's always cool to see a master at work regardless of the industry.
This guy put all his heart in on what he was doing. Great job.
If watch a documentary on this guy. This is better than most auto channel shows.
Someone give this guy a medal 🏅 the real mvp
I defy any of the keyboard crybabies to even be able to sand a board let alone do what this guy did and made it look great
Fred Berfal. dude has skills I could only imagine what he could do with better equipment
I'm learning alot from this guy. When you love what you do like this guy it truly shows. Appreciate the great job and true patience. Thanks
Here is a reply I got from Gerald regarding the wet sanding:
"It would be an opinion thing I would say. I don't have a problem with somebody wet sanding or not wet sanding. The potential issue is loss of adhesion of filler to the body panel caused from rust in between the
filler and the panel.
I always here people say people do it wrong in the body shop world I am the first to admit that there is hundreds of different opinions on how to do body work and get good results I am not trying to argue with you on weather it's right or wrong it just simply should not be done and there is no benefit to it
This guys is very calm and loves his job, I feel like I can do everything he did by myself now with the excellent step by step video!
Most people give up when they find out they cannot prep the Bondo properly.
😂😂
You need a little OCD to do this kind of job as well as he does it.
I think its funny how you call doing a job the right way ocd peaple these days dont know how to work and call doing good thorough work ocd.
A master in his trade.
Great job dude, God bless you have that guy asking millions questions
Thank you so much for sharing.
lmfao
I can't stop laughing!
😂😂lol
Hahaha
This is a guy that isn't a "pro". But, knows what he's doing. He's clearly been doing it for a long while, and knows works and what doesn't. He works for himself. He doesn't punch in and punch out at a shop. He doesn't say "Oh, I have the car for 3 days. I can finish it tomorrow, or the day after. I can bleed this job for X amount of hours".
He did a bunch of stuff that I , personally, wouldn't have done. But, client is happy (it's been about a year). Job is holding up. I don't get all the hate.
Keith Lee Foon Why would you use the same pad for the heavy compound and the second? Wouldn't you be causing inconsistent work?
I don't even know how I ended up on this video, but I have to say this guy is awesome for doing this all outdoor with bugs and wind. That guy earned whatever you paid him. You said a fraction of what the other body shops wanted. I would definitely recommend that dude to anybody I knew. Didn't even break a sweat either
No I think six codes. No talkin or video go inside. Lol.. thank you
I have three cousins that I know of, that have body shops in New Mexico.
And i thought its quite cool on the tack wielder i am used to using the slide hammer
it was an interesting technique to use the vise grips i thought so too..
Gerald is a really nice guy as most people will not share their knowledge as that is a trade secret. This must have taken all day.
Working from the back of his truck. Gotta love entrepreneurship. Pretty good, too.
Awesome job !!!! Man he did a great job. I learned Allot . Listen with all do respect he deserved the full price for giving you lessons while he was working cause you definitely slowed him down.
