Just picked up the 9 today after a driver opened their door on me at a stoplight while I was filtering (I live in CA) It’s my first GoPro and I’m liking what I am seeing! Especially the high contrast in low light situations which will be nice for snowboarding too
@@hondaega123 I picked one up not too long ago. Even night scenes look pretty darn good if you know how to set it up, and anything daylight just looks premium and professional quality, best you can get for such a small sensor anyway.

Thanks for sharing this review Chase. I made an impulse buy on a Hero 7 silver to upgrade from my original 980p Hero... I should have taken the time to realize that I actually want a black model for the option of an external mic and more shooting options. I was thinking I want a 9, but maybe just get me a 7/8 black.
Important to note that GoPro doesn’t support their products as soon as the new camera comes out too. I have a hero 7. From launch the GPS data would not consistently show up on the GoPro. Is that sound from your voice from the camera's external microphone? Did you put an internal microphone on the helmet? I also do a motovlog and bought a Hero 9 Today and I haven't seen videos in Brazil talking about it. I appreciate if you can help me.
Still use my drift Ghost for motorbike. Battery 3 hours, built like a tank, better mic sound with no need for a heap of shit and connections for sound. Use my DJI and GoPro when I can be arsed. Which is rarely. DJI and GoPro are fashion accessories these days.
I bought the new 9 black. My cams are gopro 4 silver , sony fdr 3000x and as-200v. All can give me a live preview of the recording on my iphone. Wait except my new hero 9 black? Thats right, a major feature, preview the shot as it records is not available anymore on gopros flagship camera! So if you’re shooting a time lapse in the woods and just want to be sure bigfoot didn’t eat your gopro, your out of luck with a 9 black!
Awesome, to the point, very informative and a huge thank you. I would really appreciate if you could advise what you use to record audio and how you sink it in software, and which software are you using, this video was so informative and rocks 👍
Chase - thanks so much for your video! Also went back to check out your setup and audio vid. I'm probably going to spring for the 9...just cause. I have a 7 but I like the longer battery life. Quick question - possibly stupid but whatever. How do you trigger your camera? Do you reach up and push the button and trust that its running, or some other method? I do a lot of MC video with our group rides, and its always annoying to think I got a great shot only to figure out that at some point I thought I triggered the camera on my chin, then every time after that when I thought I was turning it on I was turning it off and vice versa....d'oh...
Thanks a lot mate! I just started a m.v. channel and was curious on how do some people get such a good quality from a GoPro, cause all my footage was a bit harsh from it. The answer : PolarPro ND filters. Was wondering if Freewell ND worth it . Found the PolarPro. Regarding your question , I think no . If you already have the GP8 , then maybe wait for GP10 . Yea the 9 is better for the front display and a bit better picture quality but nothing major in my opinion. For example ,me , I went for the GP9 cause I never had any GoPro's. If I had the 8 then I wouldn't upgrade to the 9. Btw, nice videos and good editing! 💪
So you gotta have an accessory to plug into the USB-C connector on the 9 for a mic? Same, I like to film my motovlogs in 24fps. Also the 9 looks no different from the 7 or 8 in my opinion.
Two things you missed out, the external mic adapter and smart remote does NOT work with the hero 9! I have heard GoPro are addressing this in a future firmware update. But those who motoblog with hero 8 and use the mic adapter that option in NOT available at this time for the 9! If you want to use an external mic with the hero 9 then you MUST buy the NEW media mod!
Looks a little brighter/vivid ya know? I’m on a 5 so I might be easily impressed but I did see a little difference between 8 and 9. Welcome differences mind but worth the switch? Idk 🤷🏻♂️ Just subscribed btw. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. Exactly what I needed. Started doing videos again on my Scrambler 1200 XE. with a Hero 4 off-road.. So I guess i just get the Hero 9 now. Like the part with filters and the colors and so on. And the Hypersmooth will save my post production. no need for warp anymore in premiere pro. Thanks again for the time making this video.👍🏁
No real desire to get the 8 or 9. My 7 works good enough. Although I not had actual motovlog in awhile, i still use the Hero4Silver bc of the audio pack/gryo mounts. Session 4s for side shots bc longer battery live.
the hero 9 is def a better camera. also they polished up on all the bugs and quirks from the 8. For example media mod on the 9 has covers and a wind screen . The bigger battery def is huge and i noticed it when i moto vlogged.
I feel like the video was noticeably better after switching to the high. More detail, brighter, and warmer. This is coming from a hero 5 black user....ugggh kinda want one now.
I had Hero 5 and used that horrible external microphone adapter and now I realized that there is no way to use it because the battery cover is open. I would like to know if that sound of your voice is just her normal sound or if you have adapted a microphone inside your helmet, as it does not seem to have a lot of sound when you are on the road. I appreciate if you can help me.
Looking at buying my first camera for motorcycle touring. If you were buying your first camera (starting out) would you recommend the 9 over the 8?? My thoughts are when newer ones come out, GoPro are more likely to use the same batteries from the 9 for the newer models than they are from the 8.

Honestly, very helpful. I think I'll stick with my 7 black for now. Another question, ND filters, should I get them for my 7 black? Would it help with the likes of blowout etc? Yes I like the short term review followed by a long term :)
First off, what I see right off the bat is that the 9 doesn't have the delayed, and kind of abrupt but smooth, correction on fast pans. It feels more natural. I'm way less aware of your head movements. And 5K, eh, I still have a 1K TV. But if you are doing a lot of work in post, that extra 25% in res allows you to do more stabilization (usually not needed with hypersmooth), better zooms, and cropping. More power after the fact. As a Californian, seeing you stuck in a lane and not filtering through kills me. If I could only use two words to describe motorcycling (at least in a big city), they are "no waiting". I won't do it. [But I guess it's hard to say how you behave off camera.]
Colours on GoPro 9 are a lot more to my taste I like vivid colours and I can see a bit more detail over all and at this point it cost just as much in UK to buy the 8 as the 9 and the 9 comes with free extra battery a year go pro subscription and a 32gb card and a mounting stick so it's a complete no brained for me I've just ordered the 9 can't wait for it to arrive
Could you share your settings on the hero9, which nd filter you have on, what iso min/max, flat or gopro color, any post work, sharpening?. I have the same setup I recently purchased but my footage looks like crap
Hi Chase, I am a little bit confused about your gopro setting. do we really have a super view on a 5k reso? and 2nd question, for the hero 9, did you use a mic adapter for your audio? Thanks, man. Ride safe always.
Good video, i think alot of the colour change people are talking about has more to do with the nd filter more than anything else. Its boxing day here in Australia and the hero9 is $577aud from jbhifi but the hero8 is $364aud from Amazon. My question is, is the $200 price difference really worth the resolution, battery capacity and the hypersmooth 3.0?
I enjoy first impression videos. Though I do look forward to in depth reviews to really know if it is something I find more valuable than my current setup. I ride with a gopro5 and I have yet to see any of the newer cameras really edge it out enough that I would need to upgrade. For my use the battery on a 5 lasts about an hour and a half to 2 hours depending. I usually keep my footage around 1080p at 60 frames, but I will lower the framerate if I want the battery to last longer. I should add the only feature of the 9 that looks interesting is that front facing camera for simple setup. I cannot see it as a main camera for myself, the 9 seems well suited as a backup or B-roll camera to me.
amazing footage, I have gopro 9 too, but I'm not sure if gopro removed super view in 5k 24 fps in their later updates, i don't see superview option at 5k 24 or 4k 60, it is available at 4k 30 or 2k 60
I think the Hero 9 is nice but I'm happy with my Hero 7 & 8. The new battery pack size makes me want to upgrade even less. I'll wait for the Hero 11 or 12 until I think about upgrading. What I'd love to see is a Hero 9 Session.
1080p on my motovlog at 60fps. Just started motovlogging i notice 4k is way to much data. Takes lots of space. Most people view ytube videos in their phones. Even 2.7k is alot of data. 1080p is not that bad after post. I guess its depends on your preference n how much computing power you have to render the raw footage.
i guess the audio was raw while you were riding ? also, i didnt see any external audio setup ! so is it what is on your helmet while shooting this vid ?
I'm still using hero4. Mainly because I'm a poor boi. But also I just have it hooked up to an external battery so it's used as a dashcam for me. Just in case something happens while riding.
I wanna ask you what mount you have for the Atlas Ruroc helmet? I have the same and searching for a mount GoPro... The 9 look little better but the Timewrap was crazy fast on Auto mode!
Love the quick review. There does seem be to be a slight difference between Hero 8 and 9. Honestly the front facing screen is gonna be it's biggest selling point for people. But extra battery life is my big plus. Seems like GoPro will be getting more of my money again.
I heard the insta looses seconds (sometimes minutes) between file saves; that would make syncing up external audio a nightmare. For that reason I went GoPro; but wanted the 360.
Really want to upgrade my GoPro(hero 3) and iPhone but to do both to something new is like $2-2.5K so that ain't happening anytime soon. Yay to all the new tech I want being like $1K+ea now. But in any case, the new GoPro looks awesome I wish I could afford one but can't even get a 4-5 for less than $500-700 and that is used.
DOn't! I have the same camera, only reason I would want the 8 is because you can set presets, because I use my camera for vlogging so you know motovlog settings vs vlogging settings are different, so its constant switching around for me.
Got the hero 9, still low key sad that I can't replicate my Hero 4/Sena Backpack setup :'(

What audio or external mic you are using? Super 👍 thank You 🙏
Nice vid, how do you mount your GoPro onto your helmet?
i have a black 5 and two black 7's. put in a larger sensor and i will buy it.
the 7 works great mounted on my bike.
One link I do not see...what helmet camera mount are you using for your GoPro?
I hate ruining my helmets with glue or holes. Thank you💯👍🏽🏍
your audio is pretty good. but mine is sucksss. could reveal what accessories you using on your hero 9? please
What's the filter you use on your hero8?
To me, it looks better than the 9 footage, lol (seems the sky is not that much exposed, as it is on the 9).
I think the Hero 9 is nice but I'm happy with my Hero 7 & 8. The new battery pack size makes me want to upgrade even less. I'll wait for the Hero 11 or 12 until I think about upgrading. What I'd love to see is a Hero 9 Session.
Granted I'm not super familiar with your situation but I'd agree with your thoughts.
Did u get the 11?
@@JimyOfficial Nope, still running the Hero 7 & 8. 😎
4:35: 5K24 Superview isn't possible, you must either mean 4K24 Superview or 5k24 Wide?
No, it's necessary.
Love the background music in your vids.
i guess the audio was raw while you were riding ? also, i didnt see any external audio setup ! so is it what is on your helmet while shooting this vid ?
I'm still using hero4. Mainly because I'm a poor boi. But also I just have it hooked up to an external battery so it's used as a dashcam for me. Just in case something happens while riding.
I have the same nd filter on my gp6, it's not a new thing. You can also get bigger battery aftermarket for the older gp.
But good video
I wanna ask you what mount you have for the Atlas Ruroc helmet? I have the same and searching for a mount GoPro...
The 9 look little better but the Timewrap was crazy fast on Auto mode!
I think it looks very detailed yet slightly grainy when on the move. I am no expert by the way. 👍🏾
as the res. go's up, youtube downscaling it more. so where a lot of details ar moving (like the road) youtube will make it look blocky
Love the quick review. There does seem be to be a slight difference between Hero 8 and 9. Honestly the front facing screen is gonna be it's biggest selling point for people. But extra battery life is my big plus. Seems like GoPro will be getting more of my money again.
What do you think? worth the upgrade from a Hero 5 black?
Im on a hero 3+ and was looking at the 5 thru 8. Dont need anything super fancy but want to upgrade forsure. Opinions?
I'm still using my Hero4 black. Planning to buy a new one by December. And I don't know if I should buy the Hero Max 360 or Hero 9.
I like the colours better on the hero 9. But to be honest i don't thing it's worth the investment if you already have a hero7 and up!
how often do you find yourself switching the ND8 with a high 16 or 32? It seems that the 8 did a fine job in bright light
Yo dude, what you using for audio in this vid. Can't see anything connected to the hero 9 🤷🏼♂️ cheers
im new to gopro should i get this it ? it looks amazing
Thanks Chase, just bought Hero8 and love the jacket! I have the same one.
Very nice review crystal clear, I like your style dude.
I heard the insta looses seconds (sometimes minutes) between file saves; that would make syncing up external audio a nightmare. For that reason I went GoPro; but wanted the 360.
Hey Chase, Was wondering what if i dont have a gopro. Would the gopro hero 9 be worth getting. Hope you respond
Ride test is the bestest!
Hey Dan what separate audio recorder are you using ?
I would like to know this as well
Really want to upgrade my GoPro(hero 3) and iPhone but to do both to something new is like $2-2.5K so that ain't happening anytime soon. Yay to all the new tech I want being like $1K+ea now.
But in any case, the new GoPro looks awesome I wish I could afford one but can't even get a 4-5 for less than $500-700 and that is used.
I just buy myself a GoPro Hero 5 black two battery for backup and purple panda mic! I have not use it yet because till working on my Piaggio mp3!
Am still vlogging with my hero 7 black. Not sure to upgrade yet.
DOn't! I have the same camera, only reason I would want the 8 is because you can set presets, because I use my camera for vlogging so you know motovlog settings vs vlogging settings are different, so its constant switching around for me.
I don't see any difference between 4k & 5k.. My internet doesn't allow me to stream pas 1080p and my phone allow allows 1080p max to be viewed on YT!
Got the hero 9, still low key sad that I can't replicate my Hero 4/Sena Backpack setup :'(
Hey thanks for the video. It’s really helped me a lot with the motovlogger perspective.
Got a question; hero9 is 30g heavier than hero8. So, did you feel it on your helmet? Is it bothering for light weight helmets?
Ever got a answer?
great video bro. just got the 9 so i can start recording my rides. what are you doing for audio? mahalo in advance!!
Recommend the Zoom h2n or h1n, especially on a loud ass fatboy!
Lol. Especially now since installing the TBR Shorty Turnouts!! 🤦🏽♂️😂 Super loud. Right on Fam. Appreciate you. 🤙🏾🔥
WHAT about that GoPro mount that you use ? Link please , by the way thumb's up from Spain!!!
What are you using for your audio while riding ? Because I hear no wind
Can you connect your gopro with your bike's battery using some kind of converter or something???
Hey men how are u, ur vlog is really informative. Bro I need your help, I am new comer in moto vlog from Bangladesh. and I am going to buy GoPro Hero 9. can you advertise it is good for moto vlog?? and I don't have any idea about proper resolution what should be?? Need your advise
how you recording audio separately? on phone or any other method? and which microphone you are using please share
All that info is here in my helmet setup video: ua-cam.com/video/cC0zngHCP_0/v-deo.html
@@chaseontwowheels thank you brother
Hello I have never owned a gopro, I'm looking to buy either Hero 7/8/9 and I will mainly use it on my motorcycle, any advices or recommendations. Thanks
I’ve been having audio issues with my internal microphone like cracking and popping sound just wondering if you had that issue it doesn’t do it with my external mic.
Can you turn the front screen off while your motovloging?, and if you can , should you turn it off ? Does it save batteries if the front screen is off ???
Only Chase: Places his camera downward ON THE LENS! ha
Not quite as boneheaded a move when the lens has a hood mounted on it...
Any wrong... 5k > 24fps > super view .. i
Think 4k
