    Great video! Thanks for the tips!
    One question, what settings do you use to get this motion blur (6:06)?

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому +2

      You’ll need to force your shutter speed to lower by restricting the MAX ISO - you may struggle on bright days as less ISO is required and in this case you will need to use an ND filter :)

    • @TKToldo
      @TKToldo 3 роки тому

      @@HenryCrew35 Nice, thanks!
      I tried using a slow shutter speed on a video and it got so bright! I need to look for one of those filters!
      What shutter speed do you use?
      I always use the max iso at 400, but I never got to see the difference on day footage!

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому +2

      Yeh you can’t actually set shutter speed on a gopro but lowering the ISO forces the automatic shutter speed to slow. It really depends on the day - how bright it is but also how late in the day too as dusk will affect it a lot because gopro isn’t amazing in low light due to the small sensor. That does sound about right - if you use an ND you may not need to cap it as much. Ideally you want a low ISO for better image quality / less noise. If you can use 100-400 iso in the evening when the light fades or with an ND filter any time of day you’ll get a great result :)

      @@HenryCrew35 are you sure you can’t change shutter speed? Or fps?

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 роки тому

      @@thecrowfliescrooked you can change FPS when shooting video but you can’t control shutter speed you have to force it to slow by controlling the ISO and potentially using an ND filter.

    This is the best mounting guide video for motorcyclists! I actually use the suction mount and it works great for me. I have a HD Road King and stick it on my windshield. I clean the windshield with Windex before sticking it on. I’ve noticed that it will fall off if I don’t clean it properly as it is not actually sticking to the windshield, but the dust and dirt. I really like the Dango grip you mentioned and I’m going to purchase one as soon as I get paid. I like the helmet view and that seems to be the best solution for it.

I have used these mounts for quite a few years and with very good success. I will say that the location is of the utmost importance. I ride a BMW K1600GTLE and it does quite well on the fairings but not so much on the rear box.

    Thank you so much for your video!
    Me and my wife were just trying to figure it out the best approach for setting up the camera.
    We usually use the sticky base on the top of the helmet, but the shot must be low angled and sometimes cuts the sky, showing more of the road and bike bar.
    We gonna probably look after that 360º mount on the bar and the dang clip mount for the helmet.
    We were facing exactly the issue you described where we have to unscrew and screw again the bar mount to get a face shot or front ride shot.
    I guess having more than one camera helps a lot by taking the footage.
    About the battery duration, do you see any difference on the duration using the Timelapse mode? We didn't try that out yet, because we only have 1 camera for now, but our camera does 40 to 60 min record of normal video, is that the regular duration for you as well?
    Also, do you have any suggestion of brand or website to buy them?
    Sorry for all those questions
    Thank you again

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 роки тому

      Hey Wilson!
      The 360 bar mount is made by GoPro, it’s a good investment! Dango I think depends where you live - I got mine direct from Dango Design UK.
      Time lapse photo will likely give you a better battery life as processing video is hard work. The files are a lot smaller and it’s not constantly working. I guess it depends what camera you are using, my hero 9 lasts a lot longer than my hero 7/5 and is shooting bigger video files. 40/60 mins of shooting sounds about right for video. With time lapse photo I would just use it on sections where I think it will have good results, not on all the time, that’s another benefit of mounting on the chin over mounting on the helmet as you can reach it a bit easier to turn it off and on.

    To solve battery issue. I bought a Y plug for my heated vest and a USB plug. Now I just plug in the camera w/o a battery as I’m riding.
    Never fails the best shots and scenery come up when you run out of battery.
    Just remember to turn off camera at stops for lunch etc or you will kill the bike battery eventually.

      I think I explained it in another comment below - basically you cap the ISO to force the shutter to slow down, as the background is moving much more than the bike it doesn’t need to be super slow but a little is enough to get a blurred background and sharp bike. It’s best to try this in slightly lower light - maybe evening or under a lot of tree cover - as slowing down the shutter and let’s in more light and it may blow out the image but also capping the ISO doesn’t work in bright light because the ISO is already super low - if you want motion blur in bright situations you need to use an ND filter :)

      It does a few of hours recording and a 64gb memory card will store about the same if filming in 1080p but the higher the resolution the more memory it needs. It’s varies quite a lot to be honest! With GoPro it’s best not to film all the time as you end up with hours of footage that you don’t want to look through.

    Will mounting a GoPro to engine crash bars give usable footage? I've been told that anywhere on the bike itself will result in such bad vibrations that the footage is useless.
    Unless the camera is thousands of dollars with state of the art stabilisation processing.
    I get the feeling that with you this isn't the case.
    However you did mention that earlier GoPros have lesser stabilisation abilities.
    Which generation of GoPro would be needed if I were to use a tube grab mount on my engine crash bars for video footage?

      Hey Steve! Glad you liked the video and found it useful! Yes but it depends how you are plugging the mic into the GoPro. I assume you’ll use an adapter to get the right Jack size? As long as the lead is long enough this should work. Or you could go wireless but they’re a lot more expensive. Another option would be to record audio separately with a mic that plugs into an audio recorder. The only compromise here is that you then need to sync audio.

      @@HenryCrew35 thanks Henry. Yes, I’ve got the GoPro adapter for the external microphone and a purple panda lav mic kit. I think the lead is about 1.5m so more than long enough. I’m planning on riding down through France and Spain to the costa del sol in May so want to capture it. My first really long trip so I’m trying to get a set up now so I can practice before I set off. I really appreciate your help, I’ve got no idea what I’m doing with this so your advice and help is invaluable! Thanks again.

      That sounds awesome! I know you can also get external battery packs that a lot of motorcycle vloggers use, that might come in handy too.

      It’s ok if you have a perfect surface for it but I’ve had far too many failures - the three pad ones will perform better but the GoPro one is junk.

    hi, what is your recomended shutterspeed and iso for a perfect motion blur? thanks in advance!🤟

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Carlo, you can’t set shutter speed on the gopro so it’s a bit of a guessing game that you’ll need to play around with by caPping ISO and using ND filters

      @@HenryCrew35 Are there different settings for different gopros? I've got an gopro hero 5 and I can choose the shutterspeed on it.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому

      Oh maybe! I had a 5 black and I could not... you’ll have to experiment, it will vary depending on light but a good rule is anything below 125 should give some blur.

    • @chortomato
      @chortomato 3 роки тому

      @@HenryCrew35 And is more blur better or worse? I didn't catch in the video

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому +1

      If you want to have a blurred background to give the impression of speed then you’ll need to lower the shutter speed to get this affect but lower it too much and the bike will also appear blurred due to vibration and other movement. It’s a balance, I would set it to 125 and try it and then lower and lower until you get the result you want :)

    Here's a tip for you, from a pro videographer - LOOK DOWN THE LENS to make virtual eye contact with your viewer. It encourages psychological engagement.
    Both of your camera angles have you looking 1) away from the camera (like you're not interested in me, but someone else) and 2) over the top of the lens (like your avoiding eye contact with me). This side-on camera idea that was popular some time ago is dated and never worked in terms of connecting a speaker to their audience.

      @@HenryCrew35 Yeah! The surface area of the sticker allows the lighter glue (of the sticker in comparison to the mount) to still stay firmly planted without any issues.
