- 2022 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance review by The Straight Pipes. The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance is putting down 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque from an 88KW/hr battery and 2 electric motors. At $90,680 CAD, would you take it over the Tesla Model Y, Audi E tron, Audi e-tron GT, Polestar 2, Mustang Mach 1?

Yuri be ready for his South Korean boy band tryouts
He might have a chance.😄
Seriously channeling that BTS energy 🤔
😂
So I wasn’t the only one gonna start a band called STP
Does not look good as a blonde lol
Ok, 10 secs in and Yuri looks like he's in the Seinfeld episode when they cut the water pressure to the building. Lol
🤣
I can't wash the shampoo out!
Low flow… I don’t like the sound of that..
He didn't show up in the first 10 seconds?
Im watching this one right now. Low flow shower heads loll
Love the OG outro. Never gets old
I always wanted to do exactly what you guys do! Glad to see you’re able to make a living doing what you always wanted to do.
We're very grateful, thanks for watching!!
Last time I was this early, Yuri still had dark hair.
What did he do to his hair?!?!
Dipped it in some cheap a- box bleach from Walmart. Yikes.
Slim Yuri
@@ereside2 I think it’s called “woke”
looks like shit
That graphic of all the cars y'all have driven was so cool! I knew it was a lot but that was eye-opening
Yuri, straight smashes the pedal like it owes him money
I just loved the montage 1:21. New subscribers should take a look at the catalog of videos from 4+ years ago and find gems like Yuri with a drone chasing Jakub in his (then) Lexus IS-F around a track, or a whole video dedicated to the sound of Lexus LFA flyby passes.
They didn’t change the waves on the instrument cluster, when you have lane keeping on it gets pushed to the sides.
Yuri doing his damnedest to bring back the 90's
Halloween is over, but Yuri's Pete Davidson costume is seriously on point. Nice job.
The "waving" graphics on the drivers display moves to the corners when you have cruise control or lane assist on. Turn those off and you will get those cool graphics back while driving. Also, blue cruise hasn't been released yet (at least on my American Mach-E).
Doug videos suggested you guys and you Canadians are funny, good drivers and show different stuff that I love which Doug doesn't. Congratulations on making this channel great!!!
Thanks. Doug is great
Ordered a Mach E GT and was on the forums every single day, while waiting on my order I found out about the GV70 and fell in love with it. Still just as excited to see Mach E GT reviews as I was before I ever found my GV70. Super excited Ford is taking on this segment vs Tesla Model Y since no one else is doing it. I loved the Mach E (rented one on Turo for a day) compared to a Model Y, just seemed so much more like a 'real' car. I hate to say it that way, but back to back driving with a Model Y kind of showed how poorly they're put together. Not to beat a dead horse on the Tesla quality discussion. The Mach E also feels a lot like a car and not an SUV or CUV. Coming from only having cars in the past and not SUV's I really liked that part of it.
The GV70 is phenomenal! It's what I was going to get, but they didn't come in soon enough. I've driven both engines since they've been in dealerships, and both are great! If you want an EV though, there will be an eGV70 coming, perhaps next year. It'll be all the same looks and goodies of the gas but a full EV battery, of course. That might be my next car now.
Well the MachE has less ground clearance than most sedans lol. MachE is very nice but it doesn't nail the EV experience like Tesla does. At the current prices, the MachE is a no brainer unless the Model Y received the tax credit AND lowers back down in price.
GV70 is a solid choice!
@@jeffs6090 it's a GV60. It looks amazing as does most Genesis models
You dodged a bullet, congrats!
Love the videos. I was actually working at Mark Wilsons Better Used Cars when you guys did the Transformer Camaro and the Corvette reviews and have been watching the videos ever since. So awesome to see all the success that has come your way and to be watching you guys kill it video after video. Keep up the great reviews.
Model 3 Performance owner. I mob this car wayyy more than I did my Hellcat. You can floor it anywhere and nobody has a clue.
I’m actually glad the old outro is back!
Excellent review guys. Much appreciated.
Wheels: Mostly I don't like asymmetrical wheels, but these work really well. Those are really sharp wheels.
Totally agree, normally I don't like them either but these wheels look amazing.
The problem is the tire width. The skinny tires on this car ruin the look
@@michaelmcdonald9847 I hadn't noticed that. I'm not bothered by it, but they do look pretty narrow on a modern performance car.
Those 3 "not cars" that you've reviewed are the best reviews. Solid!
Yuri confidence cornering increased since owning the Z, two thumbs up 👍🏾👍🏾.
good way to start my Friday 💪
You are the most entertaining and informative car reviewer duo on UA-cam. I immensely enjoy your videos. Please try to include 0-40mph and 40-80mph times in seconds, as the first one is city off the line speeds, and the other is the passing speeds on highways
my first vid was the range rover velar and i can’t stop watch you guys
Hey now, OG outro is back. Nice. The mach-e derives no interest from me personally but watching this is still immensely satisfying
From my understanding, you need a subscription to Blue Cruise and Ford delayed the "activation" of the system until early 2022. I just had the Mach-E California Route 1 on demo the other week (review coming soon ;)) and I tried Blue Cruise on Hwy 1 here in Vancouver and had the same issue you had. It was just a normal lane centering not hands-free driving.
Btw, GM's Super Cruise works very well on pre-mapped highways. Tried it on the Escalade Diesel that I had on demo.
I don’t need no stinkin’ burnouts or donuts, and now Ford has cut the deal with Tesla to use their 10,000+ Supercharges!
I sat in a model Y with white interior, and then I sat in the Mach e, and the Ford made the Tesla seem like I was sitting in a white room with no furniture.
Yes. I one hundred percent drive more aggressively with my EV. Haha. I love all cars but I’ve never had a gas car that made me want to punch it at every single light. Anyone that says EVs aren’t any fun has never driven one. It feels like magic when your speed changes but the sound doesn’t.
So in other words you’re bleeding money in a car that is supposed to be saving you money
@@michaelmcdonald9847 I assure you that electricity is way cheaper than gas and also doesn’t require me to drive out of my way to wait in line at gas stations every week. I plug in when I get home and that’s it.
@@michaelmcdonald9847 …not to mention in a few years no one is going to want to pay as much for a gas car as an electric one. Mine will retain its resale value. Gas cars will be close to worthless unless they’re enthusiast cars.
@@craigcampbell1843 Get ready for huge increases in electricity bills. The price of electricity correlates with the price of gas. Unless you’re charging your car using electricity that was generated at your house, you’re screwed.
@@michaelmcdonald9847 you must mean a huge increase in solar panel production and installation like here in California. You can charge here now at work school or at home with solar power that doesn’t come from the grid. 😮
Nice review! I like the looks but wish there was a shade for the glass top. Good to know about the screen hitting knees. Also $50k would be a fair price for this car.
Thank god the Subscription break is back at the end! Love that clip
OMG old school outro. Love it!
You two are really the best reviewers out here. Yuri, buddy, the hair! So what is it with manufacturers that they have to have the biggest possible home computer mega screen possible placed in these cars? I'm 6'4 and test drove a Mustang and declined due to the same knee clearance reason. I have a Clarity and find the 'floating' bridge to be a little uncomfortable as well, but have managed to work around it successfully. Having my knee cap buried in the corner of a laptop when I drive will never do!
They're just cargo culting Tesla. Horrible trend, give us buttons.
Love the old out tro!
One of the, if not, the best Mach-e GT (honest) reviews!!
Great review as always! Yuri, did you lose a bet? Hahahaha!!!!
Hey @thestraigpipes , do you guys have a Spotify playlist. I love your intro music samples.
As always, love the electric car reviews! However, nothing will ever beat the Hyundai Ioniq electric vs hybrid long range test a few years back. Still one of my favorite videos!
These intro beats have been so good
loving the DJ Premier stock music
You guys are right about ford and orange, they got it right once by naming the focus st color tangerine scream haha
i really appreciate seeing the Quebec plate on the car ! hope you enjoy the french canadian area's :P
Thanks alot!!
Yuri don’t got Hollywood on us not sure what we doing with the hair lol 😂. Love the reviews this one was great like all of them
Thanks!
Those waves/ribs in the hood look just like sand dunes in that shot with the lighting it was in.
We also get the GT Performance in the US. Doug mentioned it.
Yes I said that. We don't get the GT
I love the natural sound of EVs, I'm over the ICE noise. I'm 6'2 and felt the Mach E was cramped compared to the Y, got the Y in the end .......charging network is better and autopilot is better ....also larger.......
Agreed. I’m 6’5” and fit great in our Y. And I agree that trying to make an EV sound like an ICE is pretty dumb in my opinion.
I’m 6’-6” and rear legroom is a big requirement for me. Test drove a MYP and was amazed at the amount of rear legroom. Is the Mach-E significantly less than the MY?
Who the fuck actually says shit like this that you did in the first part. That’s the weirdest shit I heard yet in reference to an EV to gasoline powered anything ..
@@1Raunchy huh? EV motors do make noise, it's just nowhere near as obnoxiously loud as some ICEs. I too prefer the natural noise that an EV makes over the silly sounds that automakers think their customers need to have piped through the speakers.
@@1Raunchy🤔 People have these things called ears - two of them actually. and people buy sports cars and modify the mufflers so they sounds loud to be cool and show others they are cool. It's one thing to have a loud car and cart it to a track where other people have their loud cars that's a smart thing to do. It's another thing to rip up and down Toronto streets at 12am going bruuuuuuuuppppppp because they just have to show how cool they are. So I like the sound of an EV - it's sounds futuristic - that's the sounds sci-fi space ships have. And as more EVs are on the road there will be less noise in an already noise dense urban areas.
"Stab & Turn" is literally what every person with any car does at the corner since the beginning of time.
The prices of new vehicles now just astounds me beyond belief. :(
It'll be cool if you could switch from all-wheel drive to RWD so you can do burnouts. And also add a HUD in 2022 would be nice too.
That graphic was kind of mind blowing lol
Thanks
Can’t wait to hear what y’all think about the 2022 Frontier!
This is kinda bitter sweet..i mean the technology is amazing and i love how we are actually living in the beginning stages of the jetson future we have all imagined it being but also the gas car will be phased out and nothing can replace them...im hoping alternative clean-burning fuels are being developed for mass use and hopefully they are renewable
I'm hoping some manufacture figures out how to add character to these electrics at least. Performance is great and all, but after a while your car is just defined by the surge of torque. That character of different engines, like sound, how it revs, ect is going away.
Porsche and koenigsegg?
Porsche is developing a type of gasoline that will actually make LESS emissions than an electric car. Who knows if it’ll be for mass use or how much range it can give you compared to regular gas or if it performs as well in colder climates tho. We’ve already started out w/ E85 becoming more common but it’s not great when there’s cold weather.
Your hopes have already been heard, Porsche and Siemens are currently building a windpark-factory in Chile for blue eFuels made of hydrogen.
And Deutz already has developed an internal combustion engine that runs with liquid hydrogen and produces 200kW.
They´re longtime testing the engine right now as we speak. 👍
@@aristokatz452 LOL That is not possible. Synthetic Fuel requires an insane amount of energy to create. They are atleast 3x more energy consuming.
Erin Mills Parkway....Nice road...I like the Allan Memorial and the 407...and the 427....
*Correction at 3:43
1 Pedal Drive has nothing to do with the Calipers or any friction brakes it’s all more aggressive regen i.e. spinning of the motor/generator in the opposite direction and there’s limits in how much regen the battery system can handle.
Oh Ya good call
Got my viking 7s this week in jersey. We are ready!
Another difference between the GT and the Base is the quarter panel/fender has a slight "wide body lip"
I knew that why else do it I'm happy you guys got to live the dream
Outro music is back!!!! Let’s gooooo!
You guys are putting out *big* “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” vibes with that blond hair Yuri!😂👌🏾
yo the matchcuts at 1:06 are MONEY
Good stuff
I have an orange supercharged mustang gt and have been thinking about getting one of these for my wife.
Ok now i will go see again the video you made on the GT350R and GT350
😂👍
Yuri channeling his inner Soundcloud rapper for this one.
Long hold traction control button to fully turn it off
I know the video is about the "Mustang" but I just can't get over Yuri finally achieving Super Saiyan 1 😄
Speaking of orange I saw a twister orange gt500 here in north Texas about a week agoooooo, lol but anyways that color looks amazing in person compared to on my iPhone
Can you do a winter test to see how long a battery charge lasts in our coldest day? I live in Ontario.
New Challenger vs Old Challenger Review next please
Whoa... Thst circular gear selector looks like it's going to break off when you rotate it... What's going on there?
I love yuri’s hair cuz it changes every month
❤️
That bumper and grill looks so much better than the normal mach e
I've talked to enough Tesla drivers to know how bad their customer service is that I won't consider one. I test drove a Mach E about 6 months ago but didn't like the price. Now they're all backordered regardless.
With how big the batteries are, I think the charging infrastructure is a moot point. At 260miles of range, you cover 99% of the daily commuters and can charge at home. The rare road trip a couple times a year shouldn't be a deciding factor when it will almost never come up.
How does it perform atound crowds
I ordered the gv60 performance but this is cool too.
the DLR is the exact Jaguar I-Pece DLR upside down.
Get a BC Hydro card (ie a physical card). I haven't tested it yet, but it claims to open the Flo machines.
Unfortunately some dealers put an additional $10k markup on these cars.
I whip my Tesla Model 3 Performance like a mule. After 20 years of BMWs and Porshe's ... I just nail it all the time.
isnt most of the 1 pedal mode deceleration done with regen, not with the brembos? I doubt the friction brakes contribute much, if any, to the stopping?
I think you are correct.
you guys should look into software more when it comes to electric cars and other modern cars.. dont get me wrong the video is good, it's just that software has been and will be a more deciding factor for most people as we move forward to electrification.
an example of this that I can think of is autonomous Driving features and single motor mode, that can be changed with a software.
Watch our 3 mach e videos. And no you can't go into single motor mode without some hacker figuring something out down the line. Ford doesn't let you
@@TheStraightPipes What about the keys for the car? Like can it use a phone as a key or not?
@@carssucksince1800s yes it can. Same as the regular Mach-e. They did a more extensive look at the software in the regular Mach-e video. This is essentially the same generation, even though it's a year later. So same everything as the base model, this is just a performance trim.
So the Telluride definitely has better HDA? I know personally cause I drive from Miami to Disney in 3 hours plus and tap the steering wheel with my leg when ask and arrive to Orlando rested as a passenger, thanks to not micro steering the whole drive. I bought my Telluride cause of straight pipes, thank you!!
Performance Tesla Model Y owner here...yes, I drive my Y like I stole it. Except for when it is driving me on FSD Beta.
Model 3 Performance owner, I absolutely drive it crazier than any ICE vehicle… that’s what makes electric stealth worth it. I canyon carved at “illegal” speeds then snuck past a hidden speed trap at the end with regen braking… the cop pulled the loud full exhaust STI trying its best to keep up that they heard from miles away… plus M3P “Track Mode” donuts and burnouts in parking lots where you only hear tires is disconcerting AF for people watching. The instant speed and stealth antics is the MAIN attraction for electric performance - Ford needs to make a Track Mode like the the M3P
I have a Tesla model 3 performance. Drift mode is the best. Ford mach E needs to have that option. And i definitely drive more agressive with electric then i ever did with gas.
Own one now, and it hits my knee but i love the car
No one else has any problems with the knee and screen. I'm 185cm and have zero issues with it.
Torso to leg ratio
At the end of the year will you please pull together "best of EV sounds"
Oakville (maybe all of Ontario?) has a snitch line for people blocking charging stations. Fine is apparently $125
Only $125?
Please review the Model Y Performance!
YES retro intro 👌...
Ah yes, all of the things we love about the mustang- a two door V8 RWD muscle car with a legendary exhaust note. Oh wait... they just slapped a badge and some lights on an electric SUV? Crazy.
I mean several reviewers have praised the handling "for an suv" and its definitely powerful/fast enough, it absolutely is worth the name just no exhaust note bc well electric, obviously not exactly the same, they just wanted it to be cool
@@olegprozapas8318 ''for an SUV'' that's your problem right there: it's still a SUV.
@@CaptainFordo21 EXACTLY it’s an suv. Electric is not the problem but the fact that they’ve jumped on the suv bandwagon and tried to make a Tesla clone is just sad. It may be a cool car but why did they have to sully the mustang name🙁. The first electric mustang should’ve been a mustang not a Tesla suv.
I'd wager the Mach-E will out perform any Mustang prior to the S550 in any metric. All previous Mustangs handled poorly for a car.
@@snapchord honestly don't think they really made it like a tesla at all, don't think they could've done that much better with an suv and a ton of people would be mad at a electric mustang too bc thats not the heritage of the car, they honestly were either gonna upset no one and make a car no one cared about really or do something bold and honestly I think its pretty good just expensive
I'd definitely go with the Model Y as well. Ford has done a pretty good job with the Mach-E, but it still has many shortcomings. My primary issue with the Mach-E is its charging curve.... It's bad. Really bad. It's advertised as peaking at 150kW, which is true, but that peak only happens for a very short duration until it throttles down to 100kW. What's worse is that it throttles to just 11kW once it hits 80% SoC. That can be a real issue if one needs let's say a 90% SoC in order to reach their destination. Ford said they will release software updates to fix the charging curve. Even if they do, the MY still peaks at 250kW, so its still a better car for road trips.
Yup watch our Mach E first edition review for charging rant
They fixed it .... 😊
How many times do you need to go over 80%? I owned mine for 6 months, had it over 80% twice. Once when I drove from San Diego to Los Angeles (and had about 40% remaining when I got there) and once when I sold it... yesterday...so the buyer felt comfy driving to North LA. Daily driving is not 200 miles a day.
@@mgmken why did you sell it already
Ford missed a huge opportunity by not calling it the Model E. Would’ve been great publicity since that’s what Tesla wanted to call the Model 3 (but Ford owned the E name). Would’ve also not pissed off car guys by stealing the Mustang name, and it could’ve signified a new era or gone back to Ford’s roots.
You do realise that this entire car has Mustang styling cues and proportions all over? In no universe would this exact car not be a Mustang model, it would have to look entirely different.
And again Ford does not care what traditional Mustang fans think because vast majority we’re never buying this car no matter what.
@@TC-qw3lr Oh wow, I had no idea the “Mustang Mach E” had mustang styling cues. Thanks, Captain Obvious!
You managed to completely miss the point. Mustang has been a 2 door coupe since its inception. The F-150 Lightning has been a 2 door performance truck since it’s inception. The Ford Super Duty lineup has always been a truck, and so on.
Ford has made a lot of mistakes with the mustang over the years, but it has never been a four door SUV. That’s like bringing the Fusion back and calling it an F-150 variant.
This was a marketing move to build sales against Tesla and other upcoming electric rivals. Now take your trash opinion elsewhere and waste someone else’s time.
@@jman6970 Its pretty simple, this thing is being sold all over the world and the Mustang is one of the most iconic cars ever. Its for marketing, people like Mustangs but don't want to have to deal with the running costs of a V8 since fuel prices in EU are stupid. Currently £1.40 a litre in the UK, yes a litre! That works out to around $7 a gallon US. Run a V8 for a while and you'll go bankrupt.
@@Lukaz0r Are you challenged, or can you just not read?
Never once were engines brought up at any point in previous comments. That is not the point of what was said, at all.
Try reading this extra slowly:
*The Ford Mustang is a pony car. That has never changed. A pony car, by definition, is a 2 door low-slung highly stylized coupe or convertible with a long hood and short deck.*
A four-door crossover SUV (The Mach E) with the Mustang name slapped on in the name of sales is a slap to the face of nearly 60 years of heritage. The issue is the body style, not the power plant.
I'd argue that not many guys on this planet are as passionate about Mustangs as myself, and the fact is Ford is a business, and if they want to continue to be profitable in the future they had to use the asset that is the Mustang name for electrification. It will help sales and will secure the Mustang platform for years to come. If this move pissed off Mustang faithfuls they need step back and try to understand where this industry is headed.
My blue cruise works all over Toronto on all highways.
That donut 🍩 😂
😭😭
I have a model Y if you want to do a test. Have to come down to North Carolina though...
I have a 2017 Fiat 500e and yes, I drive that car harder than any other car I;'ve owned. Too much fun for pennies a mile. Mind you I go from 5kwh per mile driving like a normal human to just under 3kwh without even thinking just because you press and go. Good times!
