    Everything looks great here. The fuel consumption at high speed is also normal. all cars will drop the fuel consumption above 90 km/h . Diesel with high torque at low RPM fit better for higher speed above 120km/h. It is still better than any regular gasoline engine including 1.0L Turbo. But for 180HP engines, nothing even close except some Diesel. Win drag is velocity squared. I can get easily 3.5L/100 Km when using my radar cruise control following trucks or bus in front of me at close to 100km/h. Once the truck is gone, It drop to 4.5L/100km. Diesel car also get the highest fuel efficiency at about 90km/h. The gear is already at the highest, torque is just enough to defeat win drag. The main benefit is in stop-and-go traffic when nonhybrid including diesel barely can get 8-10L/100km, hybrid can get 5-6l/100km without any effort and good torque in city traffic. With problematic Diesel emission system, hybrid is often cheaper to run, to own, and to resale.

      Are you sure about resale? The battery pack could be an issue. Lifetime 10 years, % downgrade after 5 years is at least 20-30%

      @@luckystrike656 i am sure you never have hybrid Toyota. 15 years unlimited mileage in UK/Ireland, 10 years the rest of Europe. The battery does not drop just keep going and the mpg is still 99.999% after 10 years of you maintain it well. Battery suddenly die in very hot weather like FL, Arizona, California roughly 11 years 200k miles but much longer if you park it in garage. NiMh battery has 0 fire risk unlike Lithium. Recently I got an offer from a dealer for my 2016 Auris at 130k km for €1000 more than I paid in 2019 at 90k km. Yes, the resale value of hybrid is 2x than most Diesel and EV. Because it is not disposable, €2350 brand new battery installed from dealership if you are worry after warranty expired in 10 years unlimited km. You can forget replacing battery in EV like Zoe or Leaf, it cost more than the car value after 8 years warranty period. In winter battery range drop 40% or more because no free heat from engine. Diesel is death for small amd passanger cars. Only for SUV or Truck like Land Cruiser or Hillux.

      @@rondhole no, I did not owned a hybrid Toyota or any other hybrid car yet.
      Had petrol cars when I was young and now I drive diesel for last 12 years.
      I do from 3 to 4.000km/month and averaging 4.75-5.5l/km without trying and going always over speed limits.
      But as the diesel cars struggled to meet the co2 requirements the anti pollution systems became to complex and not reliable.
      So the savings in fuel in the end goes to repairs.
      Anyhow, I owned several Toyota diesel cars in the past and know that Toyota is the real deal in terms of reliability but I find it very hard to believe that the battery don't have any degradation.
      Anyhow, the Rav4 is for now in my eyesight or maybe, just maybe the new civic hybrid.
      The corolla is to small side...

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole 2 роки тому +1

      @@luckystrike656 In terms of reliability for hybrid systems. Toyota is still no.1, the Newer Honda system is much better than the older AMI Honda system but it is too early to say unlike 20 years' records in Toyota. The NiMh battery uses LaNi8 electrodes, very durable (Lanthanum is rare earth material but cheap because it is easily available). The Lithium battery also shows it is as reliable as the NiMh because Toyota only charges up to 80% and discharged only up to 30% of the actual capacity. If you are in Europe, Corolla Touring Sport, longer than Civic has a very good MPG. RAV4 is also good but you may need to wait for months to get one. Once you have a hybrid, make sure you always turn the AC on, because it keeps the humidity and temperature down as part of the HV battery cooling system. If you park in a garage or the weather is mild, you may never need to replace the HV battery for the entire life of the car. Heat is the main issue in any battery. You can see the 15 years warranty/unlimited miles in UK/Ireland with 80% cloudy days yearly. In Germany/France/Swiss, we only have 10 years warranty but many used Toyota hybrids are still in their original battery even after 18 years such as 2004 Prius or Lexus that still roaming around like roaches with a half million miles or more. All the safety systems, including radar cruise control, pedestrian detection, road sign recognition, apple car play, and LED headlights are standard in all Corolla. Toyota makes the safety features standard since 2019, something that we still need to pay for in other cars including Golf, Civic, and Benz C class. I typically get 4.5L/100 Km in Autobahn ~ 120km/h and 3.4L/100 Km if I follow behind a semi-truck or bus at 90Km/h.

The Camry’s engine is a 2.5 218 hp that’s got the same basis as the 2.0 engine from the Corolla, but has got a bigger stroke, hence the bigger displacement. But that only translates to a bigger source of power that feeds the electric motors, so they can work more, and the thermal engine less. That translates to same consumption almost. Weight is the game-changer, and the way the car is driven.

      @@ShiftingGears92 that is only partially true, a real CVT would stay in the same gear ratio when cruising at a constant speed and thus the rpm will stay as steady as in a car with a normal transmission.
      Toyota uses a power split device (imagine like a differential but with the output being the drive shaft, the ICE powering one wheel, one electric motor driving the other wheel and another electric motor is directly connected to the drive shaft) where the speed of one electric motor determines the speed the ICE runs at, but there is no fixed ratio that forces the rpm to stay the same. What Toyota likely does is keeping the Ice at a constant torque output but modulates the power output by changing the rpm to improve efficiency, but that also causes the rpm to fluctuate

However, instant torque in hybrid at low speed in city traffict is very good, better than diesel. The Electric motor has highest torque at 1 rpm, more than 400Nm, that's why it is so beneficial driving hybrid in traffict jam.

      Diesel is made for high way speed because of high torque to overcome wind drag at low rpm. There is no regular gasoline engine more efficient than Diesel at the same power above 100 km/h. Hybrid is still way more efficient than any pure gasoline engine with the same power. In city, it is 2-3x more efficient especially in traffict jam with AC on all the time. Unfortunately, most people drive in city per year more than highway and make Diesel generally more unreliable with chocking emission controls. If you like troublefree diesel, get it pre 2008 without DPF filter and complicated Bluetec system.
      Even when I live in Germany, i don't like diesel because higher tax, unreliable, any glitch go to limp mode. Besides that driving at around 120km/h or 70mph is much more relaxing and safe fuel, even with diesel. The effeciency in diesel is also peak at 90-100km/h not 160. Driving in 160 makes us braking often and any mistake in highway will be fatal, no matter which car we drive.
