@@halloballoyt7904 Exactly! and not the most efficient way to get the best economy out of it. I have the 2.0 GR Sport now and have been driving it for about 3 weeks. It replaces a 2.2l turbo diesel SUV that wasn't hybrid or anything fancy. The Corolla delvers just 5 MPG extra to the gallon but is a much smaller car and lower to the ground.
Had they put a 2 litre turbo diesel engine in there instead of the hybrid drive train the car would have been cheaper to buy, less expensive to maintain, have greater range, have more luggage space, not have to have that variable drive gearbox and do more MPG. 10 years down the track the hybrid cars will undoubtedly need new batteries and when that day comes the car will be scrapped as the cost of the batteries will far exceed the value of the car. The diesel however would still be going strong so when you weigh it all up these vehicles will not be saving the planet, they're making things worse.
So a nice car but utterly pointless.

But it is a very fast car, which could beat in efficiency and speed. In Sport mode this would make sense. When it reaches 180 km/h (190 km/h of the speedometer) the revolutions of the gearbox drop to 3750 rpm, that is, it has room to go higher. A current 150 hp golf reaches 224 real km/h.

Look up how the Toyota eCVT transmission works in their hybrid cars. The mechanical side of the transmission has a continuously variable ratio, so that the engine can run at a constant speed as the road speed varies, but the traction motor has a fixed ratio - roughly 2.5:1, at least in the Yaris model.
