Personally i enjoy both his live recorded runs and pre-scripted commentary. In the flesh he is way more invested and energetic, it's really fun to listen to him, in the premade commentary on the other hand, his jokes are more perfected, the commentary is better thought out and the delivery is flat and hilarious. He is pretty well rounded in both aspects
"Oh there was RadAway right here????" Best moment of an amazing run. When the runner is good and charismatic, it's almost better when things go wrong and the audience pulls together. This was one of those runs.
I was so invested in that coc presentation that I totally didn't notice at first that he only took the time to explain it BECAUSE he couldn't move during the stupidly long intro scene. THAT is engagement right there.
I enjoy the quest constantly reminding you to get to mr broch’s class because you’re swimming through the void and eating Gatling gun lasers when you’re supposed to be taking your test
I adore his vernacular for his various murders. "So I'm gonna get some store credit.../sticks armed bomb in pocket" "I'm gonna negotiate.../BOOM" "He made a really bad decision, so we're gonna punish him by blowing off his head." Just tickles me XD
Something I never thought of until rewatching this with a friend... The game developers... made what is essentially a safety net under each cell... for _when_ you eventually fall through the floor.
That's just something they added after Morrowind because in that game you could fall through cells all the time. It even had a console command named FIXME that will teleport you to a good position if you ever get stuck.
@@GHOST25938 in other games it's so uncommon that's not an issue that's particularly worth addressing. Hello in most games you have to actively be trying to fall through the map Though kill barriers are also a safety, just one that kills you then resets your position You know, safely murders you
What a phenomenal run. The visual aids, the pants, "I guess it was nothing," the unexplained Taylor Swift Pip-Boy, and of course "there was RadAway right here!?" Tomato did an incredible job commentating while simultaneously doing the run, and managing to keep his energy up for over *two hours straight*. Amazing.
Watching this run again for the dozenth time, something struck me: there were clearly points throughout this run where Tomato was planning on letting donations get read for a while (e.g. while he was applying the pants), but because the donation tracker was down for the whole run, he and the couch had to keep up the commentary themselves for the _entire_ two-hour run, and they managed to do so without it sounding forced or awkward. The talent on display here, both in the run itself _and_ the commentary, easily makes this my favorite speedrun I've seen.
1:47:25 I mean, if someone defied physics and phased through the ceiling into my secret base, I'd really want them on my side. "Uh, news flash boss, this guy is a pretty big deal. He put on 5 pairs of pants and ran through the glowing sea. And... he was seen teleporting everywhere and phasing through walls. I say he's an asset."
All I can think of is just this guy yelling happily about how his wife was killed and now he is going shopping while sprinting past raiders and warping around boston. Also, "yeah, we're lookin for a guy that stole some stuff from goodneighbor" "Oh yeah, I saw him! He walked in and out of the chapel like 20 times, put on 5 more pairs of pants and bolted off into the glowing sea."
You can kill people with super stimpacks in Fallout 1 and 2. Hit them up with like 10 and most characters keel over after you skip 10 minutes. That's how I always killed Richardson, it doesn't even register as an attack so people won't fight you after the character dies.
Imagine if life was a video game and you saw this random dude jumping around and smashing his head into corners, vanishing into thin air shouting, "I GUESS IT WAS NOTHING" in a childs voice.
When he tried to find Rad Away, I was immediatly like: "I only played Skyrim, I know Bethesda's lazy design, there has to be Rad Away next to that reactor somewhere."
@Papa Shanghoe Because realistically sometimes people will need to be near the reactor, so it makes sense to have some kind of safetly precation if and when they become exposed to unsafe levels of radiation. You cant just tell a nuclear physicist "lol why even work with nuclear waste if you dont want irradiated blood"
@@louisvaught2495 that’s irrelevant to the fact that stats more or less do not matter in Bethesda fallouts. They did in the originals. The fact that people can’t see you even when you do obvious things so long as you are in sneak is shared between them.
@@louisvaught2495 What an ironic comment. He was literally able to get away with that because of his sneak skill. So in other words, that’s an example of how stats mattered in the original game. Yet you’re trying to use it as a slight in an argument about skills not mattering… Not to mention the paraphrase was an inaccurate joke descriptor of how the mechanic actually worked. Obviously it didn’t literally make the explosion less quiet. But if you’re sneaking when an explosion is going off, people will be less likely to see you, and thus less likely to suspect you being the one who planted it. The skill system in FO1/FO2 was not flawless. You’ll be hard pressed to find a perfectly balanced RPG, let alone from the 90s. Bethesda’s solution was to minimize the importance of the RPG elements entirely. Not a good solution, definitely an inferior way to go about designing an RPG. Fallout 3 was a crap game. Original Fallouts were great. Just accept it.
At around 34:35 Tomato was talking about the unique weapon Firelance which is an Alien Blaster that has a chance to spawn in several locations on the map. The worst part about this weapon is trying to find all the ammo that falls out of the sky with the gun that isn't available anywhere else in the game aside from a few unique spots and probably the dlc.
Great speedrun, very entertaining, enjoyable, informative and easy to follow, probably the best one of this year's AGDQ. Tomatoangus sounds like such a great guy, overall, amazing speedrun.
The enable player controls input at the end screen of New Vegas was hilarious! Can't tell if it's just for fun or a result of the programmers having to finish a game built on someone else's engine in a super short timeline, but I find it charming!
Actually the second. It was way easier to do that, than having to program a video editor from scratch to add it to an engine that was already a glitchy mess. In addition, this way it was easier to change the presentation depending of the endings you got and the ones you didnt.
It's actually standard procedure for characters who are voiced but are not supposed to be seen in-game. Some examples are daedric princes when they talk to you through their shrines in both Oblivion and Skyrim.
I imagine with all the possible endings, it's way less intensive to do that than to make lots of video files and play movies as cutscenes. And there's probably some limitation with the programming that means a voice has to be asigned to an actor or a character model, and to have the voice cound central they give it to someone your height rather than a rad roach or something.
@@e.m.8184 Also in Morrowind the daedric princes talk to you through your own character. If you go third person and face the camera you can see your mouth move.
It's actually insane just how much having a great commentary makes a run *THAT* much more entertaining. I find myself getting kinda bored with watching runs whenever it's a ton of silence filled with donations - but I literally watched this from start to finish.
CovertMuffin is the greatest, i literally started following the speed-running world just because of one of his Star Wars speedruns, charismatic dude indeed and seems down to earth, also his laugh is priceless !
