Brian Dwyer and the rest of the REA team are a class act. Great auction house to deal with. On a side note, how in the world did the Baltimore News Ruth get an SGC 3 grade? There is a 1/4" tear through the card, a long crease running diagonally, and paper loss on the front and back. This should be graded a "1". Still and awesome card, for sure. SGC is typically very good, so it's sad to see that they would drop all of their grading standards for this specific card.

Interesting interview. I live in Baltimore and saw this exact card on display at the Babe Ruth birthplace/museum. I spoke with Brian a bit about this card. We discussed SGC vs. TAG vs. PSA and their roles in the industry. The red card up for auction was right next to a blue example which had attained an SGC 2.5. My opinion is that the blue 2.5 was MUCH nicer with both the surface and corners. Just not as well centered. I actually led with that before I realized he was the auctioneer for the red card lol. Anyhow, if you're in Baltimore check out the Babe Ruth birthplace. Pretty cool and easy to navigate.

I saw the REA Manager Brian Dwyer do an interview on Fox promoting the auction for this card and thought it was funny how the first thing he did was try to establish the PROVENANCE of the card claiming that it had been in the possession of a single family and had originally belonged to a newspaper boy and it was handed down through the years and that they didn't know what they had which I thought was ridiculous because if they didn't know what they had then why did they bother to take care of it and pass it down through the generations which reminded me of the elaborate story that was given regarding the 2 Honus Wagner card's that were auction off about how some guy didn't know he had them and found them in his grandfather's old cigar box or something like that and one of them was purchased by Wayne Gretzky only later to find out it was a lie and that the one Gretzky purchased was trimmed!
I don't know for sure but it sounds like a Bill Mastro Special 😆

The card has been worked on. It was cleaned and had paper removal. I have pictures of the card before it was graded. REA has religiously deleted and his comments as well as block members who have even mentioned this. A bidder retracted a bid because of this already in the first 4 days. SGC is trash for this and REA follows.

SGC holds the most expensive cards ever sold Top 3 if I'm not mistaken. They rule vintage

SGC is very good. Not sure how they could grade this Ruth card a "3" though. They clearly dropped all of their grading standards with this one. There is a 1/4" tear through the card, a long crease running diagonally, and paper loss on the front and back. Should have graded a "1" or "A" at best.

Geoff hoping for his 1987 Topps to be worth millions? I dont foresee that ever happening, unless they start becoming a common source of kindle by nearly the entire collecting hobby.

Great show. I enjoy the cards that take up an entire episode.
The best cards already exist. They’re not laying in packs at Amazon and Target😂😂😂
Cards you’d want to own multiple copies of. Those are actual investments.
I used to collect a bit of everything. I sold everything except basketball and have 10x’d my bet on the NBA.
But the few baseball cards I did keep. Were my Babe Ruth’s.
Not Micky, not Bonds (SF fan), not Trout.
Babe Ruth! The most mythical sports figure ever!
Otanini is the only kid worth Speculating on today. Other than that, baseball has been cooked for years.
They do nothing but demonize their superstars and I’ll never understand that strategy.
NBA does the same in this soft era of letting unhappy peasants run the world, but even Adam Silver doesn’t want to continue getting into the drama of personal players. You’re shooting your sport in the foot by pretending your “millionaire” players are perfect Micky mouses in real life.
Just stop it and talk about your sport.
Hope the MLB figures it out one day. Took them 100 years to figure out the pitch clock. They just refuse to innovate.
We want offense and base runners sliding into more bases. So do more to bring more offense to your product.
We want HRs and base runners sliding into home plate.
Not routine pops and grounders to 1st base 73% of the season. Specially when you have double the games of every other sport.
Baseball is just a corporate marketing campaign now.
It’s lost it’s grip on the culture of America. No one except kids and retirees want to watch or play it’s sport. 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻

Never going to happen. Within the first 4 days bids were retracted on top of that the card was worked on an SGC still graded it a 3 instead of AA.

Babe Ruth has had a resurgence in baseball discussion largely due to Shohei Ohtani comparisons, but Babe Ruth's pop culture notoriety and familiarity also comes from the Sandlot movie as well. The Great Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, The Colossus of Clout. You won't run into too many people that don't know the name. Babe Ruth cards were likely not as "iconic" because there really isn't a "true" rookie card for him with the exception of this 1914 card. Like you guys said, there's only 10 known copies.

I think for the level of this card's scarcity, they had to compare this card to the other Ruth cards that were previously graded.
I think there was a PSA 1.5 sold a couple years ago and this one was significantly better than that one. It had paper loss on the back and the front was quite a disaster as well.
Unfortunately(or fortunately), I think there's a level of subjectivity when it comes to grading cards and cards with pop of less than 10, I think it makes sense to compare the condition to the previous cards that were graded to benchmark this one's grade.
I always thought there should be different tiers of grading for modern, super modern, vintage, and pre-war. But who knows what's really going on...

First of all The owner of REA should know better the say Babe Ruths rookie card cause its not it was a card put out in newspaper to give the people in Baltimore times when the up coming games were being played.Topps or Upperdeck did not make the card. Its not his Rookie Card. Second of all there are more then 10 of them out there so lets get your facts straight. Because I have called your office and gave you proof of the one I have. But you keep saying 10 Can you not count? Its ok when our family gets ready to sell it won't be REA Sorry
