Geoff, you and Ryan, are not only the BEST, but you’re also incredibly kind. Thank you for everything you guys do! I volunteer with Vets, battling PTSD….and we watch your videos. Thank you for helping me, help them. Sincerely, LT. Quinn D. Mallonee🇺🇸
If fanatics makes the event like San Diego comic con that would be awesome. They could have athletes on panels to interact and talk in front of fans. They could sell exclusive cards, give away exclusive stuff and also have live signings with athletes. Lots of potential!
Topps has kept this Hobby going for years and years and Fanatics is the big bully trying to turn the Hobby into having a monopoly over the whole industry!
I’ve been buying and selling leaf since 2014 . Does great for me and it’s funny how everyone is a follower now and all of a sudden Non Licensed is OK. Collectors are well known for having no stones and following the crowd. Grow a pair and like what you like , do what YOU want to do in the hobby and forget the noise.
I've been in the Hobby for a pretty long time and I have always loved LEAF PRODUCTS and I don't care if they are licensed or not! They have good products and it's what the collectors like is the important thing in my opinion!
29:42 great way to pump expectations. I know your allocated price will be lower and you want it to go for more. This is classic shady sports card store owners.
Hey Jeff living in GA my whole life I would say if you ever consider a 2nd location look at somewhere south of Atlanta like Macon. South of Atlanta is a virtual dead zone for Trading Card shops. It's such an untapped area that it would almost be fail proof. Not everyone can or wants to drive to Atlanta mostly because of all the traffic. IMO you want to be in a place before it blows up to where people just want to avoid that area like the plague. Macon is almost smack dab in the middle of the state and sees a lot of tourist traffic from people going to Florida or coming from Florida north.
Of course the new, modern card shop owners love the push by Fanatics to modernize. It’s going to reduce allocation competition as some of the older shops won’t do it/cant do it and close down. It will be interesting to see if an owner can modernize and keep a nostalgic theme.
I have been following Jeff Wilson for the past few years and I also like Ryan and his logo his Card Collector 2 shop and I watch all his videos as well!
Ahhhh….. The Corporate World of Idiots that think they know whats best for everyone. How about allocating more product to LCS’s. Make Breakers go through the shops to get product. My local shop is 1.5hrs away. By Wednesday evening of the Bowman drop, they’re out every year. Maybe fix that problem before causing others
Topps talks crap about how important the customer is, then allocates tons of product to breakers. You used to have to have a brick and mortar shop as part of the account process. Limit allocations to clients who primarily break, make the hobby shops the best place to get the product, give them a fair price and then supply/demand will run it's course.
Given topps say they want more stores I would have liked you guys to touch on how this increased barrier to entry for stores affects things (if at all), and how the increased overheads for lcs's associated with their 'standards' affects the biggest pain point of collectors in wax prices.
The Wemby Topps Now Autos don't have a great secondary market - granted their price point was $2300 to even buy them. So I don't think people are super interested in paying a lot for non-licensed cards/autos right now. Also - it's a small thing but Wemby does not have the greatest auto - it just looks like a scribble with no discernible letters. The only thing that might make the Topps Chrome Wemby autos more popular could be a lower price point. I personally don't buy Panini baseball because it's unlicensed and I'll probably be sitting out of Topps Chrome basketball/football until it is the licensed version.
Yeah I agree because I was looking at the Auto of Wembys ROY and when I saw the price of it on my account with Topps and 2000.00 was I mean come on and it was sold out already! The high rollers who have the Cash Flow don't have to worry about crap! People like me and millions of other collectors who buy these cards is who built this sports cards industry period!!
As a small business owner, I’d really hate to have a billionaire dollar company influencing or having any say in how I’m running my business…straight bullshit in my opinion. Also, it feels like at this point that these card shops are now franchises…fuck that!
This sounds more like a franchisee model than a distributorship model. If you are a franchisee then the parent company has room to tell you how your location should look and demand upgrades, etc... but I don't see where a distributor with no financial interest in my business has any say about how "modern" my business is. I distribute your product, I buy it, you deliver it and I sell it. That's about the end of what you have to say about how i run my business, If my sales are strong, my results show that my clients are happy with their experience. Stay out of my business and I won't mandate that you fix your house before you worry about mine.
100%.....that's what I find so confusing about this.....these are independent businesses, and fanatics wants to treat them like their franchise chains. Fanatics could end up being the worst thing that happened to this hobby since junk wax.
GM did this with Chevy/GM dealerships. Understandable as they are the only product they distribute/sell. Not some non licensed 1 of 20 product the dealers sell. They also killed off hundred of dealerships that were family owned for decades and left them in the dust while new already modern dealers managed to steal the space. It's not Topps place to do this unless they are the only product the shops sell. You guys have no issue with this because your shops are new within the last decade and didn't survive the struggles of keeping your shops alive for the last 20+ years through the ups and downs.
Topps tries to give stars to stores like Michelin does to restaurants. But restaurants don't buy their vegetables and meats from Michelin. This should be the work of an independent rater.
I can see what they are trying to do, and it's good. But, telling shops to up your store or we will pull your inventory is just BS. Some shops do well small amd dusty.
So topps is going to force ppl to spend their money, because topps feels they should spend money 🤔 So what about online stores will they be forced to open shops ?
Soooo....topps/fanatics will go around to card shops and tell them "hey you need to invest $25k into your store and make it more modern or we will stop allocation"??? Seems a little dictatorish, no?
half these card shops will end up selling to fanatics. I am probably wrong but fanatics seems to be putting their foot on the small business owners neck so they can eventually turn them into fanatics branded stores
Let all the brown nosing begin so that people can get their allocation. Funny, today breakers are realizing bowman is rough in most cases to hit anything worth anything, but now fanatics can do this over and over. I think we are starting to see how a monopoly works against the collector, and breakers are about to see the squeeze too.
Fancy lights and display cases will not magically bring in more customers. The spoiled rich kids are happy because it just pushes out the average business competitor
Geoff you're a sophisticated businessman. Yet there are never any stats to support the statements from you and guests. "We're up a lot! It got a little slow. There's momentum. We're getting bigger. There's a lull. There was a dip. There was an uptick. A light month." ??? Please require data to support these nothing statements. Thanks!
Looking forward to the integration, seems like the hobby has been a little stale since Fanatics took over. I think the Hobby is waiting for what this partnership means for the growth moving forward! The hobby wants the best athletes art and autos 💰💸
You blokes just sound like a couple of Fanatics shills. I guess you can't piss off the only supplier in town going forward. How about just being honest and calling out Fanatics for holding their own stock to ransom.
Geoff, you and Ryan, are not only the BEST, but you’re also incredibly kind. Thank you for everything you guys do! I volunteer with Vets, battling PTSD….and we watch your videos. Thank you for helping me, help them. Sincerely, LT. Quinn D. Mallonee🇺🇸

Topps needs to chill out and fix their own water downed product before trying to fix other peoples card shops
Topps has kept this Hobby going for years and years and Fanatics is the big bully trying to turn the Hobby into having a monopoly over the whole industry!
Reminds me of a movie with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels
China uses a similar social credit system
I like the old shop look and hate the bully Fanatics asking mom and pop shop owners to modernize!
You can still go to those.. they just will not get AS MUCH allocation.
I'm here just to see if Ryan can say two words before Geoff interrupts him

Last few years huh? Don't even know how to spell his name properly. Gee eee ooo fff fff.....

All i take from this is Fanatics and Topps win collectors will suffer

Topps Chrome Basketball Gareented is going to be $1,000 + a box. Cuz everyone says they don't like "nonlicence" but will still buy buy BUY.
lol no
As a small business owner, I’d really hate to have a billionaire dollar company influencing or having any say in how I’m running my business…straight bullshit in my opinion. Also, it feels like at this point that these card shops are now franchises…fuck that!
What would be better though and why - 1st Bowman prospect card or Topps Chrome rookie both non licensed @cardcollector2
If a card shop owner comes on here and says they had a little “dip”. That means in reality they are getting crushed.
Hypocrit alert, don't like unlicensed, but because I love fanatics I support unlicensed now

There worried about peoples shops but there product is over produced garbage?.... weird

Great stuff Geoff
Biggest take away - CC2 never attend Topps industry day until now! 😮
It may just be me but I like the old dark and dingy card shops! Lol
I hope they give the legacy local card shops enough time to make the change
We need more diversity is manufactures of sports cards. Fanatics/ Topps is monopolizing the industry and that works to a take it or leave it prices
It should be $100 a box because you guys will get the 1/1 super fractor autos
Topps tries to give stars to stores like Michelin does to restaurants. But restaurants don't buy their vegetables and meats from Michelin. This should be the work of an independent rater.
Great takeaway. 👍🏼
I like Ryan he said q1 was done I believe breaks for not worth it so that's why people go the single route
Why is a $10B company telling LCS what to do with their money? The price point of cards is driving LCS out of business.
If we the collectors stop breaking and buying then just maybe they will listen to the consumer.
Good information, but sometimes I felt like Geoff was interviewing himself.
Topps is going in with a gangster mentality 😂
Please don't say "Juicy" while discussing the hobby. Thanks. 😫

Stand at attention da Furer Rubin has entered the room!
Fanatics made their expectations official at the conference, but most knew this was coming.
Let all the brown nosing begin so that people can get their allocation. Id be fine with $500 -$600 hobbys. Not $1000 plus.
Fancy lights and display cases will not magically bring in more customers. The spoiled rich kids are happy because it just pushes out the average business competitor

How about stopping selling cadrs on the shelf and just investing in the breakers? It seemed like it's the ideal thing. Make everybody broke.
Let's be honest, all Fanatics wants to do is sell more high-end cards.
Ill take the old dusty card shop anyday over Pier One HQ.
Well here goes the next round of junk wax. Over production of junk. At inflated prices.
Here goes? Here continues….. we have been in junk wax 2.0 since 2020-21
Flip flopping Geof. 7 months ago he wouldn’t touch a non licensed product. He’s officially Fantastics pet
This guy is delusional
Which one?
Looking forward to the integration, seems like the hobby has been a little stale since Fanatics took over. I think the Hobby is waiting for what this partnership means for the growth moving forward! The hobby wants the best athletes art and autos 💰💸

Agreed
WILL GRIER FLEEEEER!!!! 4X
You are a 🤡
