People forget that, in the early 80's, we came so very, very close to total nuclear destruction. Thankfully that didn't happen, but songs like this one show how people felt at the time.
These guys filled more dance floors in the 80s than ANYONE. Made some real bangers
In the clubs of the 1980's, this would fill the dance floors, and (the extended version) people would just dance up a major sweat. Fire. Frankie were great.
Trevor horn…absolute genius…his studio work is pure art…he took recordings to another level filling your ears with so many layers ..don’t hear this level of craft now these days unfortunately 😢

Gorbatchev vs Reagan. This is probably the only time we see the leaders of countries fight on each other - even if this is not real. Normally it is the soldiers, citizens who fight in the war. And their lives are not that expensive.
Holly Johnson has a heck of a voice! The singles put out by FGTH didn't really showcase his voice enough - mostly dance orientated. His first solo album, Blast, was the one time he really let his voice free.
He's a top bloke too.
Power of Love isn't very dancey and showcases his voice I'd say.
Amazing track which has appeal for both the serious Rock & casual Dance audience. That bass & guitar could sweep a stadium crowd into a frenzy while that beat & THAT VOICE would fill any dancefloor in the world!
When this came out the threat of nuclear war with Russia was huge and it was regularly described in the media - this song's release was extremely timely given the tensions we all experienced
It never seemed like that for me , I was serving in West Germany at the time with the British army, I suppose time has taken the edge off me

when you wondered if it was going to be emotional I really laughed...I was young in that era and we were constantlyaware of the Cold War in the background.. we used to muse about what we'd do if the '4 minute warning' sirens went off. Amongst most of my friends the answer was usually something rude..!

As was this video, and the follow up 'Welcome to the Pleasuedome' the Beeb only showed the first half of the video. If I recall the only 2 videos of Frankies that WERE shown uncensored were Power of Love and Watching the Wildlife

This song both always rocks on the _GTA: Vice City_ soundtrack when you're barreling through traffic on a motorcycle at 120 MPH, trying to both outrun the cops and shoot at the car in front of you. Great stuff.
Bit late to the party on this one, but I believe the bass line, along with a couple of other well-known Frankie Goes to Hollywood tracks was provided by Norman Watt-Roy - who was also bass player for Ian Dury (as one of the Blockheads) and latterly with Wilko Johnson (non-musicians will know him more for being the silent executioner in Game of Thrones).

I'm 62 today). If you like pacifism with a super funky bassline and the voice of Holly Johnson, you'll also like their song 'Relax' which is even funkier (but it's sex advice, so not for the squeamish).
