The fact that Meta already said in 2021 that they have been working on this game for years means that a lot of money and resources have already been put into the project and I think the point of simply canceling the project has been passed. I really hope we finally hear about it this year.
That was actually kind of a lie. Video Games Deluxe first mentioned the development of this project vaguely in LinkedIn amidst the pandemic in 2020 and they said exactly this. "Having finished the critically well received L.A.Noire: The V.R. Case Files we are now gearing up for a new project. 2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney. " Clearly this means that they've started the development of this before 2020. There wasn't even a 2 year gap between VGD's announcement and Meta's announcement of the game.
If you’re going to make a VR game, make a VR game. Half-Life Alyx worked so well, and it’s a shame no one has picked up that philosophy and run with it, instead remaking (or demaking) popular titles into VR.
The VR port of Resident Evil 4 was great. Making VR ports like that of more older games is what Meta should have been focusing on to fill up the Quest catalog while all their studios work on AAA VR games.
Steam are all about the engine like unreal, sure unreal release a game with their engine but the passion project is the engine not the game, just so happens that the CEO of steam is a massive nerd like us. Many developers using the alyx engine as we speak, it takes 7+yrs to release a videogame
I was genuinely shocked how little fan fare there was for this when it was announced. It's literally one of the most influential games ever potentially being 100% playable in VR and nobody even talked about it
Really hope it does come out on quest 2 been waiting for so long. And meta hasnt even offered an option to trade your quest 2 to quest 3. I dont have 600 dollars to throw at a headset that i dont even have much space for lol
Really hope it comes out on all VR headsets as VR is still niche and needs all the help it can get. I have similar feelings, I've only got the PSVR2 and won't buy another VR just for 1 game.
It's such a complex game, that it's way more work than probably they even expected to move everything to VR without breaking the gameplay. I'd be curious to know how it feels to play much of the game in VR - probably not the most comfortable experience while crashing cars and bikes and rolling over.
Even though il probably not be able to afford it id still definitely like to see it happen an see some gameplay footage. Riding the bike around would be pretty cool
So my theory is that the fixes that VGD did for the mobile version are some of the same that they have been working on for the VR port. Which would mean that it will be based on the Definitive Edition but at least it won't be as bad as the console versions if they keep making fixes for it. Besides that, I believe that they probably still have at least one or two more years of development. First, when the Zuck revealed that game they were just hiring people for working on that port according to their LinkedIn if I remember correctly, so what they mentioned about having been working on it for years may have been a lie, or they may have been talking about making the deal with Rockstar and waiting for the DE first. And around one month ago they opened up a couple of job postings including a Senior Developer. I'm not sure how common is hiring new senior devs in the game industry in the middle of a project but I don't think that they would go through the effort of hiring one just to have him help for less than a year before the project is done. Either way, it doesn't seem that the project is dead yet, but I won't keep my hopes up for a release date this year or the next one. Also, given that it must be a Meta exclusive I'm sure once it's ready it will be revealed on the Meta gaming showcase and not on Rockstar's twitter or something like that.
GTA _defective edition_ is Unreal Engine4 meaning you can purchase that and play that in VR, i wouldn't give them a penny myself until it's properly fixed but there are options if people need that gta fix, i'm happy enough playing GTA5 in VR currently with a bunch of my realism mods active, i'd never go overboard with mods using VR though so i have a few must'haves and leave it there with GTA5 VR getting greedy with mods in VR never works out
Unpopular opinion but a game like gta San Andreas where the gameplay keeps changing every few minutes, form shooting to driving to cycling to flying etc, is probably gona make people sick in VR, I think that’s part of the reason they probably either canned it or just working around this. If u see vr games today most shooting/movement games require people to play standing up and moving using motion controls, whilst driving and flying games most often use stationary/seated position using a wheel, controller, or joystick. A game that constantly switching between these regimes of VR is going to make people fall sick and get phycally tired much faster
That’s also something I experience myself while being (apparently) immune to motion sickness. I don’t get sick but I’m less motivated to play a game where I constantly have to change my "playstyle". Especially when a game has fps mechanics. I like to use my gunstock but everything else besides the shooting gets clunky with it
Yeah, actually, most games play great in sit-down mode. What bubble of games are you playing where you are forced to stand up? That's quite rare in the grand scheme of things. It's very obvious why sit down games are currently the MAJORITY. San Andreas would be a perfect sit down game and it's honestly weird that you disagree. If you can't handle San Andreas in VR, that means you can't handle games like RecRoom on VRchat or Horizon Worlds (three of the best social games in VR). I miss the days when games like Ritchies Plank Experience were fun. Now, it's just like "hmm hmmm, I'm flying, I'm falling, so boring". Because most people really can get used to it, there's implied laziness when acting as if everyone has a hard time with sit down VR.
@@awesomeferret most vr shooting games play like shit sitting down unless you're playing Roblox or something, idk what baby scroller you have been plaiting
A good port is what i think would generate a lot of interest VR towards the casual audience As i see it, its almost only indie devs market wtih few big titles on it The hardware of quest 2 might be able to run it, considering how old it is; but considering you have to render each frame for 2 eyes and you have a mass world, they should follow the limits of the original with something like the fog on PS2 The quest 2 already can emulate PS2 titles in it (with dev mode), but i don't think its really that easy port Considering it's from an from old no longer supported game engine (renderware), a lot of systems would need to be remade for this engine to work I am hoping it will be a good port, even with the original graphics is something i will be happy with, i could get a lot of old friends who i used to play SA eith for long hours will wanna try Just idk how will handle things like inventory and menus since there is no game of it scale in vr i could think off
Tbh I wouldn’t mind the fog at all, especially in VR. GTASA felt always a bit mysterious when you were riding around in the desert or Forrest and everything was covered in fog. Would be great in VR and it’s still one of the simplest but still very effective way to cut corners+I think that pop ups are some of the most immersion breaking things any game can have and that also gets solved with fog. I like the Fog❤️
Man... i been dying to play this. One day it hit me... "Where tf is it!?" Modders are going to beat them to the punch lol, in fact it looks like the already have. Though it looks like a pita to setup.
I mean given that quest is entirely Android based I'd be amazed if they didn't use the Android port as a base. The android port itself is not that bad though, especially when modded. So I don't see it as a major issue tbh.
I hate to be that guy but I've just got a gut feeling about this game never actually releasing? Or if it does it will just be a buggy mess 😅 Hope I'm wrong though, the idea is awesome and I'd hope it'd release on other VR headsets too like PSVR2, which is the only one I own. Still hoping for a Half Life Alyx port too, or atleast being able to use it on PC which has actually been rumoured recently.
If San Andreas was designed to run on smartphones from the early 2010s (and did so quite well) then I refuse to accept any excuse for why it can't run on the Quest 2. I can understand some economical arguments against it, but as far as "will it run well" goes, you sorta have to be stupid to think it wouldn't work well. If an 8 year old LG V20 can run it at 1440p, then there actually is no excuse for it not to run on the Quest 2 (a device nearly twice as powerful).
it would require so much effort to make a good SanAndreasVR i really dont think it will ever release, Rockstar probably dont give a shit about it since everyone stopped hating them since the trailer, and Meta sucks massive dick they wouldn't do shit by their own with a product so complex and massive like SA, but that's my opinion and im an idiot. 🔥

Great video, but FYI there is already a FanMade VR version of original GTA SA.
Oh yeah tell me more ?
A mod or VorpX?
What about gun play? will they re do the gun models to include iron sights?
If it’s still being worked on I imagine they would not only have to redo all of the weapons, they’d have to redo car interiors too. So much work.
They would either do that or add lasers to the guns
It probably got dropped faster then that PS3 game 'Agent'

Don't think rockstars has anything to do with vr development of this game. It's meta. But not sure...
How can they put San Andreas on meta with all the bad stuff in the game when they had to censor the flirting out of resident evil 4
how much are they gonna push the poor engine 💀
5090 minimum requirements
I have a quest 2 and i literally never play it cuz they got no real games on it
You are my fire
VR is the shizzle..hitman vr. Wow. Skyrim..ooft
The defective edition as I call it ,
Who the heck actually wants SA VR i certainly do no not

I agree and furthermore, who tf thinks that collaborating with meta is a good idea?

I just want hidden interior universe in VR lol
You don’t have to buy it. Dumbest argument ever…
