Can't trust GameStop with anything... it's one thing to order a normal ps5 console and have this happen, but c'mon man. This is a very limited 30th anniversary console. It's a collectible. Getting it damaged is really disappointing.

I had some GameStop employees say that they could hold my controller when it comes out… I just went today and they told me they sold it to a customer. Not to mention Walmart cancelling my order, this really pissed me off.

Sony's console seals are a joke anymore. They used to have nice long blue stripes with the PS logo. The moved to small clear adhesive circles that were more like plastic tape. And now they use this garbage wax-paper with a smidge of sticky on it
I feel you FedEx never said it was delivered found the box soaked outside opened it really fast so the actual ps5 box could dry from being damp seal got wet and tore I was so heated gamestop didn't have any protection just was a box inside a box with alot of space
Exactly, There are a few early 8th gen exceptions (OG Xbox One and Wii U) but nothing after. It is a very disappointing age. I love when computers have disc drives also.
This hasn't happened to me but if it did i sure as hell would not accept it. Brand new means Brand fkn new sealed in the box! No exceptions. Your wrapping of the actual console has been opened before, screw that!

This remimds me, Dude I opened up a Xbox Series X brand new, had spent extra money for protective covers and filters, it got an E100 Error straight out of the box and couldn't boot. I had to send it to Microsoft repair center, this mint condition console came back deeply scratched, scuffed and dropped (edges were damaged). I was mad.

As a GameStop employee I can say they arrive at the store like this. The shipping companies simply don’t care. There was a Ps5 pro that arrived launch day that had a hole in the box to the point you could touch the console.

I stopped shopping at GameStop years ago. They always felt sketchy every time I ever went there. In fact, on multiple occasions, I found that they added something when ringing me up that I did not ask for. Things like insurance plans that cost more and even pre-orders! When I found out that it wasn't just my local stores doing that, I immediately stopped being a customer of theirs. Terrible business practices and apparently they also treat their employees like garbage. It has to be at least a decade now since the last time I shopped there and I am a happier gamer for it. Way better game stores out there. Sorry your 30th anniversary edition box was ruined by them. That sucks, especially when people collect the boxes.
Honestly, it's very possible that GameStop had received the box in that condition. I had the 30th anniversary controller preordered and I was there when they arrived at the store last week. One looked okay, and one looked REALLY messed up. Edges of the box were tearing and the seal had been torn open. Although the seal was also made of flimsy paper so it's very possible that it tore on its own during transit, but still. By the time I picked it up, someone had resealed it with GameStop's normal circle stickers (which makes sense since everything new has to be sold sealed but STILL). On that note, years ago I had ordered the GoW Ragnarok controller from the Walmart website and the box was also in crap condition. Honestly it could be a shipping issue.
i ordered my PS5 Pro from Best Buy and the sticker on the box was also cut and i think i saw that a few other times so i don't understand the deal with that
Gamestop in Ireland tried to open my PS4 Pro 500 Million Edition when it released. They had already opened the outer brown cardboard box. I gave them a piece of my mind for trying to ruin my unboxing experience. Got my 30th anniversary today in perfect condition. Didn't get a chance to open yet though...
It's my bet that it was opened after the box got punctured ( no slue how that happened) to check to see if anything got busted, then when all was good they still sent it out and sold it at new even though it should have been slightly discounted for the damaged packaging.
Judging by the comments down here, it seems like both GameStop and Walmart needs to be held accountable for their mismanagements. It's simply inexcusable that it happened multiple times to multiple people now
GameStop can't figure out why they keep loosing customers. But they pull these stunts all the time. GameStop says they refurbish consoles and they don't. You buy used products and they package them where they move around in the box and get damaged. So that is the exact reason people don't want shop from them anymore.
One of those icky gamestop employees here. The box being unsealed is actually pretty common in general. It's a cheap piece of tape that gets worn down rocking back and forth in transit from Sony to a gamestop warehouse, then handled a few times, then in transit again from the warehouse to the customer or store. Maybe if sony used a real piece of tape rather then the cheap stuff, it would never happen. Just like i can say i've never seen it happen with any xbox console or switch console, only playstation. When it comes to the puncture hole, if you call and let them know they "should" give you 5% off minimum and a maximum of 10% off. I hadn't had that happen before till recently with a ps5 digital system, not sure if it was the warehouse or fedex though.

They should surprise people with stuff. For example, if you're someone who pre orders the first batches. They add neat little things, like Easter egg stuff. And email you if you wanna add some special controllers or covers. Or even do separate emails for people that order from Ps direct, Randomly. That way, it's less likely that scalpers would get ahold of the items.

i feel like now its not really a good time to buy consoles at all from gamestop let alone game discs becasue they are slowly having to shut themselfs down if im not mistaken because they can not keep up with the current standards of gaming and why almost everythign they sell are just not in great condition anymore

3 years ago when I pick up my PS5 from Gamestop, my box was cut open but re-taped over the original tape. It was super sketchy.
