As an engineer. Im.a tell you EQ and compression are gonna make your voice sound way better too. Make sure you gat a conpressor where you can compress the AIR aka the highs. You can get that joyner lucas style compression that makes his voice sound so good. And dont forget LAYERS!!
I just recently started using my normal voice. I thought my voice was bad because of it sounding like a kid so i lowered it to sound older. Just sounded stupid. Now I'm actually using my voice right, and is heard in the song dropping tomorrow (no self promotion)
Everybody out here wants people to listen, don’t be ashamed of that, be proud of it it’s called hustle or entrepreneurship, some of the greatest rappers started out passing out mixtapes to ANYONE that would listen.. self-promotion is part of the culture, plug ya shit boy!
There are rappers with wholly unoriginal perspectives that understand this PERFECTLY and still captivate people. Fantastic video for a silent but well-known creative struggle.
I feel like I manifested this video, this is exactly what I needed today! I even searched “how to rap voice” to watch one of your older ones but this is perfect, thanks for everything you do and done ❤️💯
But I am trying not to disturb someone in the next room 😂. Not everyone has money for studio time. Any good ideas where to record with a phone app away from people? Ive used fans and theyre really good for noise cancellation out and in
I also run over the beat and people loved it. But one friend said I was off beat. So I tricked him and played a song saying who is this? He thought it was Soulja Boy. How do we distinguish haters from critics or negative people?😅. Learned lots of new styles from it though

Dude, you got me in tears. I was just talking about this struggle to my wife. Then this video popped up. Cheers, fam! I might probably finally be able to release my tracks after more than 2 years of pulling back.

what I admired about Prodigy is that his voice was so calm but at the same time had this authority. That's just pure charisma. That just shows that it's not about being loud but about being fearless and not holding back anything that's inside of you.
Thanks for the inspirational video. Very well put-together and something to reflect upon and to have present. Nothing should lower one's own potential or reduce one's personality... it all starts in one's head. A positive mindset about yourself is the key.
This was a very helpful video, and I will be applying this! I used to be very insecure about my voice and I guess theres still a little bit of that insecurity nowadays which I will be working on. Thx for the video!
Man I’m grateful for this video, I wish I had it when I was in my teens and younger 20s. I’m in my late 20s and I don’t know if I should try again or just stick to beat making/producing.
@VaSt-x6g I appreciate it! I see a couple of people who started making music at a later age and I always wondered if I did that would it be worth it but I’m not holding back or worrying anymore, I’ll just put something’s out and keep it pushing. If I get traction and people like it then cool, if not it’s cool either way.
Damn this helped me more than i thought it would. I'm so tired of working so hard at my songs and then they get ignored. When I perform people are like "I didn't know you sounded like this!"🙏🏿thank you I've gotta make changes
Thanks for this. I'm a hobby opera singer trying to get into rapping (a little nuts, I know...) and I wondered why my voice was sounding weak when trying to rap while it was able to fill a room without a mic when I sing classically. I wouldn't have thought it's the same system. Being present and confident, deliver with urgency and command. It comes naturally with the volume and technique in classical singing, while I really needed to hear it and get into it mentally for rapping. Thank you so much for telling me.
This is pretty spot on. There's some things that aren't as important not mentioned here, but you can find yourself/ already have found yourself and contribute to a false sense of hip hop. Its rap though. Like the message isnt mentioned in here and what you know youngsters are listening to, but for good cause because they say rap, not hip hop. To me, this is if you want to make it, money, but there's also underground and the fact that it's a pick and choose if u want to hear the words or just move to the music. Some people make it, but I categorize it as something different in music..... hip hop doesn't want to be set back for peeps trying to portray some image. Some people arent built like that and and have factors keeping them at bay. KRS One is trying to preserve it and there's so many that want to be something that's not from within because of the wrong understandings in life. It's still music at the end of the day, amd creativity is amazing, but for hip hop... that's sold out, almost anyway
This is amazing analysis. I produce and coach rappers and I wish every one of them could see this. Really breaking this shit down on a music education level.
1:16 nah for me it aint even the voice in my head, ive got my brother and other family members in my house telling me to shut tf up and that im not good. need to keep grinding tho
Been making music for a little over a year now. Got inspiration from my boy who’s been doing it for 7 finally finding my sounds and what I like. Got some heat dropping soon🕺🏽🤞🏼
Hmm...you have to go based on the movement of the track. You shouldn't be using the same exact voice unless you just want to stay in the same instrumental pocket. That's why some MC's aren't versatile. They flow the same way no matter the track. That could work but its too narrow for this day and age.
I've had producers tell me to bazash it up, when I did I felt stupid and it felt like I over did it, in addition it also felt weird but after hearing the playback the recording fitted with the tracks perfectly. My voice shined and it had authenticity. I no longer sounded like where I came from, it was a new spin that sets me apart, every artist needs that to get notice by potential new fans and the music industry. I still use it in my arsenal. Great technique to have.
Diamond barz with plastic energy 😂 I know exactly what you mean. I feel like my raps are above porcelain but they’re like silver - gold plated right now … headed to gold and diamond cut chains then we go full diamond 💎 but im just honest & I know they’ll be platinum when I get there 😂but self awareness is step 1 💯

Wow, very interesting. I had ZERO clue others felt these ways about their voice as well lol. I'm not someone who wants to pursue a career as an artist per se, but I do enjoy writing and rapping as a hobby; you know, making music that's only really for my own ears. Even when I would have that 'silly' thought of trying to pursue the path of an artist I immediately would shut it down since I feel like my voice sucks, my only hope in my mind was autotune since I'd never tried it yet haha. I almost equated my voice being a barrier to becoming an artist as I view someone's height being a barrier to ever become an NBA player, if that makes sense. If anything, this video (which I randomly stumbled upon) at least lets me know that I'm not alone so thank you. 👊
Great video bro. I would love to send you a sample of where I’m at and have you break down what I’m still doing wrong hahaha. Some songs are perfect first take, some 10 takes in I just don’t like.
