I've driven a 2019 GTI and a 2019 N and went with the N. The GTI has a far nicer interior, no question. But I would say that the gap in handling dynamics and drive feel between the two cars is just as huge as the difference in interior quality. And THAT goes hands-down to the N.

    • @IndyAvocadoKid

If you’ve only ever owned economy cars like me the plastic interior of the N is still a step up, its way better than my Saturn SC2 interior (a POS car that needed to be towed to the dealer every 6 months, there’s a reason Saturn car company no longer exists 😝), or even the old Hyundai Sonata I owned before this N, at least the plastic has a nice textured surface rather than econocar type boring looking plain plastic. Something interesting I saw is that a bargain basement Mercedes has like 188HP versus 275 for the N, probably because of the expensive leather interior sucked up the money Albert chose to dump into the engine bay instead 🤔😂

  • @Lateralgrip

The cheap plastic comments are so over done. The N is a bargain for the performance. Something had to give to cut cost. My GT350R also had cheap plastics but oh my what a car! If the argument is against cheap plastics the N has already won. I looked at a club miata and MSRP was almost 40k!!

For those who thought that Hyundai wasn't exiting as Tommy, well just drive the new N Line from Hyundai and you will be amazed. The power to weight ratio it is perfect, the reliability it is better than any euro trash plus those engines are detuned by factory, you just need to add a tuning with the same factory turbo and you are looking at V8 HP ratings on a small 4 cylinder engine. Just look on you tube Sixth engineering that are specialized on Hyundai/Kia tuning and you will see how much power those cars can put to the wheel. Plus the handling, suspension tuning and braking performance done by ex M designer from the BMW for years let you know it is well put together from the ground up and not add on aftermarket stuff. The chasis it is build and design for that, I own one and I can confirmed that this is not Hyundai from the 90's or earlier 2000.

It all just depends on what kind of sporty car you want. They are 2 pretty different flavors. One's a 2 seat hardtop convertible for nearly $40k (crazy). The other is an asymmetrical 3-door hot hatch that can maybe seat 4 people. It's obvious you're getting a lot more car for your money with the Veloster. The Miata does seem to have higher quality finishes, but for $10k more and less car and performance, it's the least it can offer.

A simple drive-off would settle it. Who can get home first from the shooting location? The Miata would arrive ten minutes after the Veloster (even if home is 8 minutes away!) No brainer. Veloster wins over the Ford Miata in every performance category. Enjoy your $10,000 sunroof that you can only use 4 months out of the year in most of the country.

From everything I've heard I can't wait till my Mini Cooper S kicks the bucket and I have an excuse to buy the Veloster N (stupid name Veloster). I think it'll be perfect for me. Props to the venerable Miata though. In the early 1990's it revived the concept of the small roadster, like an Asian updated answer to the Triumphs and MGs of the 1960's. It got pretty dated though and this latest generation finally doesn't look like a girl's car. Still, a turbo would make it into the car it's supposed to be.

I remember I was about 3 y.o., it was in Khabarovsk, my birth place, I used to love riding in a car and my father was like "look, it's a Land Cruiser", "it's a Camry", "this is Lada 2103, it looks almost like our 2106 but has different bumpers". Being a car journalist is still one of my dreams. But my father is an ex policeman, and somehow I have a much stronger passion for cars.

So.... 40k for a Miata. How much is that new corvette starting at again? This toy seems to be priced for middle aged men with disposable income and credit to spare. Not sure the "N" thing is going to materialize into the same thing as a BMW "M", or Acura type R. I'd buy a used better car than either of these. Can't get over 40k for a Mazda. A sucker is born every minute.

At 9:43; Thank you! That's exactly it. If you're over about 6', forget it. I tried one once at the Clev. Auto Show. I have to reach over with my right arm to pull the door closed because I can't hinge my left elbow in tight enough to close it. Then(!), once it's closed I either have my left arm jammed up against me, with NO room to move, or I hang it out the window and practically drag my knuckles on the pavement. No thanks! (Oh, and it's slow)
And as far as the interior quibbles go against the N; You have to make a sacrifice to get that performance at that dollar value. I guess, if Hyundai saw value in it, maybe they could offer a $3,000 option for a premium interior package. At that point, you're really beating A LOT of other cars for value and speed. My guess is though, that (hypothetical) premium interior package would sell in less than 10% of N's sold.

Roman wins this round. I got a real kick out of the way this review turned out. The back and forth was great. The Hyundai Foster was cool in its oddball sort of way like the 90,s Saturn 3 door coupe was. The Miata was cool because, well it’s a Miata and they are truly fun little cars. But if I had to choose one, I would choose a base 2 door Wrangler With one option, limited slip differential. Like Roman, I do not fit the Miata and the Volster just does not punch my cool more. I like my Promaster City SLT 5 seat minivan better. I fit in it great, and I can do everything I want with it. But I miss my fully loaded 2010 Cube SL with all its neat tricks and huge cup holders on the corners of the dash and oddball styling. But if we get into the way back machine, my 1970 383 automatic hardtop Plymouth Roadrunner with the air grabber hood scoop, bucket seats, tick tock tach, hood stripe, hood turn signal repeaters and beep-beep horn with magnum black and chrome steel wheels beats them all.

  • @SirtubalotTX
    @SirtubalotTX 4 роки тому

I like both if these cars but I'm with Roman on this one. Hyundai was very wise coming out with the Velister N and its about time.
Only thing keeping me from ever considering a Miata is the lack of a hot version and that it's overpriced. A turbo with 250 to 300hp would make the Miata perfect and be more in line with its 40k price tag.
Of course, if your a tall dude like Roman,.. All of that is moot.
Overall, I give my nod to the Veloster. For the money, it is the better value and proposition..with better performance numbers to boot.

Great Father-Son rivalry. As far as the cars, I’m 6’1 and fit well in the soft-top Miata. That being said unless you require more than 2 seats, I think the better car is the one with aluminum underbody bits, a dedicated sporty chasis, the one that is lighter, the one with toe and camber adjustability, the one that has had its own racing leagues for years. Don’t get me wrong the Veloster is awesome. Especially it’s awesome soundtrack. Still, I say in this case Miata Is ABSOLUTELY The Answer!

Lies, the N with 275 runs 36k on their website and no dealer has one for less. 30k gets you 250hp not 275. Buy a used Ford ST or a new one if you can still find them. And the Mazda is trash at 39k, might as well get a GT car.
