  • I met with Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson on the transformation of Air India since the TATA group takeover. We discussed about new aircraft orders, existing aircraft retrofit, all the changes and challenges to revive Air India.
    Mr Wilson gave the latest update on project Vihaan.AI. (Air India Transformation). The airline is in the process of consolidating four airlines (Air India, Air India Express, Air Asia India and Vistara) into one full-service and one low-cost airline. The CEO reacted to some skepticism about the changes.
    Then, I attended an Air India cabin crew training class to see it first hand about recruitment. Air India has over 100 batches of new cabin crew recruitment to support the unprecedented growth.

As he was listing the various phases of development, once he said a new IT system I knew it was set and match. I haven't had much face-to-face interactions with people from India, but spoken to many of my Indian colleges through work and they are the smartest and kindest people I have ever worked with. Very genuine. AI should have zero problems finding solid IT personnel. Lastly, the stewardess training program looks legit. Either way, Air india (just one airline in India) given orders worth 65 billion to companies in USA, France and UK, So jobless Americans and Brits can finally pay their rent! 65 billion is like the GDP of some European countries like Lithuania.
      Just a different perspective to the story!

    • @OG_Aviation
      @OG_Aviation Рік тому +1

      @@AROMAL1123 You don't realize do you? Aircraft manufacturers are having difficulties with aircrafts right now, even if there is a demand they're struggling to meet that demand due to lack supplies for multiple reasons. For example, shortage of aircraft engines, due to engine manufacturers having same issues with meeting demands. Then there is issues and flaws within the aircrafts that are being produced that are forcing aircrafts being grounded. Then finally another important issue is the workers leaving the companies because of being treated unfairly and un-equally. So, even if there is a huge 65 billion or even 200 billion dollars worth demand manufacturers are still struggling. It's not always about the customers prospective but the sellers prospective as well.

I’m yet to meet someone who is not excited about new market scenario. 100 years back automotive manufacturers faced same issues, people are giving up on horse carriages and shifting to cars, Henry Ford discovered assembly line then! Almost all commodities that we use have same stories behind it.
      If there are supply and production constraints, then supply and production will move to new locations. Last year my organisation recruited more than 1000 engineers, planning to open new factories and they are in new locations. So it’s not just about supply and demand, its more than that! You will agree that current supply constraints are temporary and no one will stop flying, won’t you? The whole supply chain system is rebalancing now!
      There will be more air travellers, new pilots, new airports, new aircraft types, new airlines in coming years, You and me will continue our discussions after five years here & we will see what happens next!

    Flew a couple of weeks before from Port Blair to chennai with my family. The flight took off 10 min early and had an early arrival as well. The food needed a lot more improvement which was surprising as Vistara has really good food . I will surely try Air India again just becase its a Tata group company now which means that there will be improvement. Tata has the good will of the nation and Air India should meet that expectation

    I had travelled Air India many times between 1990s when it was at its heights & then stopped after my experiences in 2002 & 2004. both flight experiences were delayed postponed & diverted to other airports which again became a hassle for me personally.
    Since Tata group has under taken Air India i am hoping it will return to its former glory. I am yet to fly again, hopefully I will fly next year for my summer vacations to India.

    Whenever I flew in the last few years, I flew other airlines except Air India because of the degraded reputation, but in my heart I always wished Air India came back to it's original standards and be at the top like it used to, because trust me it's service was among the best in the world, you felt like royalty. Seems like we are going to get there again! *touchwood.

    I flew last year with Air India from Toronto to Delhi, everything was fine but I really did not like the color schemata of red and orange for the interior of the plane! It actually brought on a bit of anxiety! I hope they go with a more neutral palatte for their makeover. This time around I decided to fly with Air Canada and Lufthansa to Delhi but I may consider AI again in the future.

    Recently flew DEL-CDG and back sector on business - both flights were seamless. Starting from check-in all the way to baggage collection - had a great experience. In-flight entertainment is still horrid but I had my books to keep me busy. Staff, food and Tumi accessories - on point! Very excited to see the progress.

    I had travelled by a direct non-stop AI flight from Mumbai to New York, in Feb, 2023. It was the worst flight experience than what I had expected. The plastic of the back side of seat was broken, the entertainment system (for my seat) was not working, the remote was broken. I had told flight attendant 2 times, but her behavior was as if she did not care at all, had so much attitude. I was not expecting a great flight experience considering the AI's past record, but it was the worst experience I had. I had chosen AI because no other airline have non-stop flight from Mumbai to New York. For AI, its a long way to go even coming close the best in aviation industry. They need to re-educate all the current flight attendants on how to be polite and prompt in service.

    • @tilllatelomo
      @tilllatelomo Рік тому +3

      Maybe you are a lower pāti and demanding person from their current flight attendants' eyes. Reeducation? I think removing the cancer to prevent cancer spread to healthy cells is a better solution.

    Campbell Wilson comes across as an excellent appointment. No chest-thumping nonsense nor any wild predictions but focused on step by step improvements which are already being felt. As an Indian in NYC, I cannot wait to have a world-class option to visit friends & family. AI has already upped their frequency to 4 daily flights - EWR/JFK to DEL and EWR/JFK to BOM, some of which are on new-interior ex-DL 777Ls. Keep it up!
