I love how Nagito and Gundham's murders were literally unsolvable by conventional logic to the point that they needed hints from the killer and belief in plot armor to actually solve it.
Gundham could've just won so easily, as he both of his defenses of "my hamsters heard the clock ringing outside my door and I wanted to see what they were scared about" and "I got up to use the bathroom" both totally would've made sense, and there was zero evidence he went to the final dead room meanwhile they all knew nagito went to the final dead room. Who's to say nagito didn't just complete the crime scene and went back to his room before Fuyuhiko walked out

@J Blazer there's a debate on it. Like half the Fandom thinks that he sacrificed himself and the other half thinks he tried for the trial and didn't like that they treated him selfless. I personally think that he did try to get away with it but was honest with what happened when fuyuhoko sat outside, as if he gave up on his life there it would go against his speech he says afterwards

Kyoko knew it was 11037 from the start. She was sure enough they would win the class trial, but she was smart enough to lay low and let someone else (Makoto) run the class trial, that's the Kirigiri detective way after all.
She was the one who said rotate the message 180°, explain why would it be flipped and she knew it was Leon who tried to dispose of the evidence from the start.
If she accused Leon right from the start, he would defend himself the whole class trial and scream "Stupid Stupid Stupid!" after all. 😂
What would be the purpose of letting Makoto do so, analyze her fellow classmates?

@@georgearbuckle7029 Kyoko explains why she doesn’t instantly solve every case and end every trial right away in the game.
She explains that she firmly believes that people should form their own conclusions to find and believe in the truth, rather than have people rely on her and develop a habit of believing every word she says.
Like the others said, it’s so people don’t blindly trust each other and form their own views on the truth.
It’s why she only really nudges people in the right direction, at best. She also likes laying low to avoid being seen as a target in the killing game-that way people won’t see her as someone that needs to be killed for being too competent.
For Sayaka’s case, Kyoko knew Makoto and Sayaka were close, and wanted Makoto to piece together the truth with his own eyes, and form his own perspective. He does so, and helps him when she feels it’s necessary (like when she suggested to look at 11037 upside down.)
It would be better for him and everyone else to figure it out on their own than for her to coldly shut everyone down right away.
Another thing worth noting is that proving Makoto innocent gets the rest of the class to trust him, so she prods him in the right direction to reveal the truth through him.

For chapter 1 case 1, 11037 is harder to understand for Japanese speakers because they don't typically use the Latin alphabet. That's why the characters couldn't immediately tell that 11037 meant Leon.
I mean togami definitely would since Japanese isn't the only language he's familiar with in terms of speaking and writing, and kiyoko knew from the start that it said Leon but just didn't say anything

Just because you've studied another language doesn't mean you will readily identify it in a weird context (such as appearing to be numbers because the letters are upside down). True story - As a native English speaker, I tried taking a practice Japanese test, which was entirely in Japanese, and found myself struggling to identify one of the characters. I sat there for a good couple minutes thinking "I've never seen this Kanji before, but it's so simple I feel like it should have."
Eventually it dawned on me - I was looking at the number 11, not a Kanji. Because I was so focused on trying to identify Japanese lettering, I literally didn't register that I was looking at a number. Sometimes brains just completely fail to recognize things that are obvious in hindsight.

@@pandanoko729 If you look at the comic for the case, where it shows how the murder happened, it says "When I went to the hospital with Mikan this morning, I noticed a specific thing in the lobby" The specific thing being the surveillance monitor. It also says they went to the hospital WITH Mikan, which means they went in there together.

Actually, Hifumi used Celeste’s real name because he was hit so hard in the head that he gained all his memories back before he died. In Hifumi’s head, everyone else already knew Celeste’s real name, and it’s possible that she had dropped the name Celeste at some point before the killing game. It WOULD, however, have been possible to catch Hifumi in the act. All they had to do was inspect his body when they found him “dead” in the nurse’s office.

@@shottwice It's used as a narrative tool yeah but it's not really plot armor. Luck is a talent in the danganronpa series, so it doesn't bend the rules of the show to give nagito a good outcome. Plot armor would be if someone else wont through luck, seeing as luck is only nagito's (and makoto's) talent.

Kyoko DID do that. She literally knew the entire time. She literally TOLD Makoto what to do. Yeah, Makoto didn't figure it out until later, but we can also chalk that up to the name being written in English. Remember, this is a Japanese game that takes place with Japanese characters, so what is obvious to us, who are native English speakers, might not be obvious to the characters.

fuyuhijo could have felt guilty for peko killing Mahiru when he wanted to talk first, and just confessed, but highly unlikely, or kazuichi could have been a pervert and noticed that peko was not covered in seawater when she said she went to do laps around the island.

tbh is sayaka left makotos room and knocked on all doors while leon was getting at his room to get the screwdriver the case wouldve been much simpler

Gundham not only had a ridiculously airtight case, but he probably would’ve won if he didn’t confess.
He doesn’t need to convince everyone, just enough that the majority isn’t against him. Since there were 8 people alive at that point, at least 5 would’ve had to have voted for him.
He could simply not vote for himself, and I’m sure Sonia would rather believe Nagito did it.
Nagito, Hajime, and Chiaki would probably vote for Gundham, maybe Kazuichi as well. But I think he had a decent chance of convincing Fuyuhiko and Akane by saying “That’s not proof I did it, that’s proof I could’ve done it. Now, do you want to believe me, or the crazy person?”.
And Chiaki’s argument about him not being in his room is moot when Fuyuhiko wasn’t in his room either.

I really don't get why Gundam didn't simply say " oh I had to use the bathroom " , or LITERALLY JUST SAY " oh I woke up early and decided to just wander around " remember at that point in the trial it was already revealed that everyone actually slept for 2 extra hours Gundam simply could just say add that " I guess I just woke up around the time I usually did but the alarm didn't sound so I just started walking around "

I literally hated Celeste’s case with a passion. The reason she was caught was beyond stupid.
Both in the anime and game. In the game she says “like those guys did” and in the anime she said “like they were.” The anime one could’ve EASILY been explained by saying “I meant the people who died before this trial,” sure you could pick at the phrase she said in the game but most of the time when people say guys they mean a multitude of people, it could include boys and girls.
They could’ve thought of a better way to catch her tbh

Shuichi couldn’t have risk checking on Kaede but he could have also just put more thought into the placement of the wound, how much force Kaede did, and how far Rantaro
It would be too dark for anyone to see while the ritual was taken place and it had to be dark
Kokichi should have accounted for Gonta’s lack of knowledge on technology
Gonta wouldn’t have confessed if he did remember because he cared about his friends too much to let them even know what was going on

Gonta wouldn't have confessed because he was going for a mercy killing. The flashback light that was in the virtual world showed him that the outside world was a wasteland (what we see after going through the Death Road of Despair with the electo hammers), thus bringing him to immense despair. This much was explained by Kokichi and Alter Ego Gonta.
Kokichi: If he wants to save everyone, he should put everyone out of their misery. In other words... a mercy kill.
Gonta: Was Gonta... tricked!?

Gundham's case was somewhat dependant on nagito's suicidal tendency but calling it plot armour is basically summarizing almost every case in Danganronpa. nagito's case was solved logically excluding the way they decided to vote but even then, they didn't trust nagito, they trusted chiaki, it wasn't the most smart thing to do but it was a commentary on the entire belief vs logic clash that constantly takes place in the Danganronpa universe
To be honest about Nagito's death, his talent is essentially bullshit plot armor
I think some people forget that Togami framed Toko to out Genocider and test who he should be weary of in the future. I dunno if he actually knew who killed Chihiro as it would've just been initially pinned on a woman. I think he was just arrogant and knew he'd figure it out before it actually costed his life.
Mikan had no feasible way to be caught without a trial because chapter 3 doesn't make sense as is. And especially not by the off-color video feed Hajime saw once of someone about to hang themselves. It seems like the best thing for him to do would've been to get Mikan- Who was filming in the room above. And she'd be caught that way. Or realizing that Ibuki was choked instead of hanged. Putting doubt onto Mikan's autopsy. Though they'd still need to figure out all that other shit too.
Gundham's only hindrance was his choice of room. But nobody was going to call him out on that initially since it seemed pretty harmless. He and Nagito had like, near perfect murders.
The mistake with Kiyo was closing your eyes in a dark room with a creepy ass man in a ritual you just know is bullshit. If it wasn't for the occult like motive this chapter, ain't no way nobody would've agreed to it. When Tenko died they should've had the same thought Miu had of: "Yeah this dumbass did it "
Gonta was under the impression that it would've been better had everyone died than to see the outside world, so he wouldn't have fessed up at all. Only thing is, he might've been a bad liar. In fact, if it wasn't for Kokichi leading Shuichi to the answer, Gonta would've gotten off scot-free unless they all put their biases aside and looked at the case objectively. Since he's the only one without an alibi.

Oh I think I misspoke. . . That's my B. It was Toko/Genocider he was framing. Not Mondo. (How do you frame the killer of the crime?) As for why he was able to find the body, I'd assume it's the same reason we're able to discover it in the first place.

Togami said he saw Mondo leaving the room. He knew who the killer was, he just wanted to see who he’d have to watch out for when he decided to kill.

To be fair, 11037 is obvious to us because we can read English. It isn't QUITE as easy for people who are Japanese who may not be fluent enough at the language to notice such a thing. Kyoko also knew right away. Makoto, obviously didn't because, well, he is a Japanese HS student with probably only a minor understanding of the language.
Peko was an easy catch. The second I noticed water bottles, a lack of footprints in the sand, and the fact that it would be weird for Monokuma to let Peko swim island to island without chance of them dying with a juicy trial to cook up

Bruh they can easily cut off the duration trial in half. The arcade game basically tell them Hiyoko had a knack for turning a blind eye when something bad happened. Instead they explore each and every bit of why Hiyoko wouldn't kill Mahiru.
Plus, at that point, it was they're second time dealing with "Bloodless Suspect" like come on.

People say that this is the best, when hajime our protag doesn't even think about this during the investigation, the cast waste their damn time talking about bs and the motive(because monokuma aka the writers force them to), and even after they voted they had to discuss about Sonia's weird fetish about serial killers EVEN AFTER THEY VOTED- like WTF the trial is over! There is literally no reason to continue discussing!

The more I see this whole complex cases to kill someone and not get caught, the more I think just doing the simplest thing would work.

Kirumi came the closest to that. If she never tried to get rid of Ryoma's body, there would have been no way for anyone to know she drowned him in a sink.
The problem lies mostly within the setting: distrust. Everybody knows in advance, from the prologue, that anybody can try and murder their ass. Nobody willingly, except for some special reasons, will go to someone in private setting. Plus, you still would want to nobody actually see you go with that said person to the toilet\see you get the murder weapon, isn't it? And, maybe, an alibi would be nice... Whoops! We have another "somewhat complex case for a first trial" again!
Actually, if you think about it, most kills(with exception of DR2-3) were made the way they were to bypass certain restrictions and\or limitations that were set either by the setting and in-game rules or by their own special main gimmick of the case and consequences of their actions that they didn't foresaw. Like, Celeste tried to bypass the rule about two people working together to find many more possibilities for her murder(please note that if not for the Hifumi - her case would be almost flawless. It was Hifumi who screwed up EVERY part of the case that she build, leaving a giant amount of traces behind. Technically, her only big mistake was taking a low risk and ask Hifumi for help. Pretty ironic for a Gambler to die because they tried to play it safe, but that's a topic for another time). Teru had a restriction via consequence of *Nagito's* plan, who tried to use total darkness for the murder. Peko was the smart one, but she still needed to bypass both "setting restrictions"(shower not working) and "Main plan quirk restrictions"(Mahiru's body blocking the front door and the idea that only Mahiru's footprints should be in the sand in front of the rear door). Even DR-5 - Junko tried to bypass her own rules by framing Kyoko for murdering Makoto(that was the plan, anyway). And so on.
The ONLY case that doesn't make sense in this case is case V3-2. Despite the fact that it's still working with the same logic(bypassing the "gym closed for the night" rule to destroy the body), it's flawed in this philosophy fundamentally: Kirumi didn't had a concrete reason for destroying the body to begin with. If she didn't had a reason to dispose of the body - she shouldn't made the intricate plan for it and thus - she should had leave the body in Ryoma's shower room.
The DR2-3 case is an exception because by that time Mikan is a Remnant of Despair, making all the logic about her actions somewhat pointless, because Remnants, by the most part, doesn't have a need for logic, reasons and etc.

@@dan_man3087 What Kirumi had planned is a lot more reasonable in theory then how it actually played out. Gonta's insect meet and greet screwed over her plans, and her best choice would have been to give up and try something else later.
Kirumi probably planned to help Angie and Hiyoko in the gym for 5 minutes, giving her an alibi, they would stay there until nighttime so she wouldn't be caught. Plus no one would have suspected the body could have been planted during nighttime, the gym would have been patrolled up until nighttime, and the idea was that the body would have to have been in the tank in advance. Kirumi would just be one of many people who assisted in the set-up, so there wasn't a reason to assume she set up a nighttime transport. What Gonta's Insect Meet and Greet did was it took away her assured alibi, and that forced her to have to obtain a new one. What she could have done is go to the insect meet and greet. Instead of being one of many people who could have set up in the gym, she became one of 4 people who could have killed Ryoma before Nighttime and moved him into the gym tank.

Danganronpa is a japanese Game and the infamous 11037 was written in English in the japanese version. Poor Leon, even nowadays people think that his case is the lamest, when wasn't that obvious in japanese.
Unfortunately for Leon, even though it was more difficult for Japanese audiences to get, it was still the easiest case due to it being the first and basically an introduction case for the players, a tutorial that's meant to be easy. so it would've been labeled as "lame" regardless due to how easy compared to other trials it was meant to be. Though it is one of my personal favorite trials
Personally, in my opinion, the fact that it was kind of the easiest murder doesn't make it the worst or the most boring. You can find interesting things in it if you want to dig deeper, for example, notes of personal tragedy in the deaths of Sayaka or Leon, or just some cool revelation of their characters.
It really upsets me that this is the most underrated thing and most fans turn away from it like it's a leper or something

For kyoko it is easy tho. Thats why she knew what happened. For Japanese audience it was difficult to read it like that.

For V3 case 1, there’s something that feels off for me, and it has something to do with the shot put balls. If the ball Kaede dropped missed and hit the ground, it would’ve left a clean dent where it hit, if it had hit hit Rantaro first, then the dent would’ve been bloody. There had to have Shot Put balls are very dense, so a fall from Rantaro’s head after Tsumugi threw the ball would’ve also left a dent. Even if Rantaro’s blood had entered Kaede’s dent, there would’ve been a second, smaller dent too far away for it to have been a bounce, which would have proved that Kaede wasn’t the only one who made an attempt.
That whole case is off even looking at the blood stains and the angle in which they splattered at would be a good indicator that Kaede's attempted failed.
I too in retrospect found the first case cheesy. But it’s really not! Even in the Japanese version, it’s written in English which while common to learn is still not a mother tongue. It’s like expecting an anglophone to immediately recognize Katakana

In Kirumi’s defense, if she doesn’t move the body to the gym they would’ve simply track the motive down and know that Kirumi’s the only one who recieves her own motive anyway, since we didn’t have anything to go by, the motive video is the most reliable thing in this case
To be fair to Nagito, there IS a way to find a Killer before a Trial.
Hajime saw Chiaki's Diary, and the one entry that practically tells you she did it.
If he wasnt sentimental, he couldve said "Chiaki is working for Usami, shes the Traitor, therefore, shes the killer cause that's who Nagito was after."
Tbf, the only way theyd believe that though is if Chiaki outright agreed to what was said.
I disagree and am confused on your point about Chihiro's trial, Byakuya didn't catch Mondo committing the crime, he just found the body early and decided to screw around.
Also, I've done the 11037 spiel too many times in comments before, but for anyone who doesn't know, the gist is that the message was written in English in the Japanese version of the game as well and was supposed to test how well the players knew their English, they just couldn't find a way to adjust the puzzle for Western audiences. So for actual Japanese students, it wouldn't have been as easy as just turning their heads upside down.
Edit: Okay, I’ve been corrected about the Byakuya part, he watched him leave the crime scene. However, I still hold my point on Leon’s case.

For the last case, you could also do blood tests to see who's blood it is. The mystery of "oh no who is it" falls flat when BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT BLOOD TYPES.
You would need access to a blood test + blood test results can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few weeks to get back. And judging from the fact that monokuma didn’t know who the victim is it must mean they don’t have a way to test blood on hand.

wait what? nagito wasn't the culprit in that case, chiaki was. the group could've inferred that chiaki was the traitor from that time she scanned in when nagito asked for the traitor to do so, and from there would've assumed (wrongly) that nagito's ultimate luck would lead to, if not him, the traitor being the killer so that the group could get the traitor executed (i repeat this is a wrong assumption but it still indicates Chiaki). plus they noted that the fire bombs didn't work at all. but that means they have to assume that nagito wasn't his own killer, which is a hard sell.

The actual reason why they couldn't find out the 11037 is because in the original language they used the same language, so Japanise players legitimately wouldn't know what it is and think it's just the numbers.

Another easy way to find out was if Makoto talked with CHihiro during a freetim eevnt. In this case Chihiro tells Makoto that he wants to start training with Mondo.

I agree with some of these, here’s my long ass opinion on each trial.
DR:THH Ch1: honestly, it was easy but I feel like the characters are SUPPOSED to be stupid for this one. The reason why they’re supposed to be stupid is because the chapter was basically a tutorial. Sayaka being dead was a giveaway tbh, and the entire trial was basically full of tutorials to know what to do.
Ch2: Honestly, Byakuya was literally just plot armor. If Byakuya didn’t exist or wasn’t a complete asshat, the case would’ve been closed. Also even IF nobody witnessed the murder or Mondo at all, I feel like he was still protected by plot armor. The only reason he got caught was bc he named the color of the damn tracksuit. Like I know he was on edge because Kyoko was taunting him but cmon, all he had to do was stfu.
Ch3: Honestly I still feel like Hifumis way of talking was a dead giveaway regardless. They know he refers to everyone by their last name because of traditional Japanese culture. They should’ve EASILY picked Celeste/Taeko bc it’s so easy to tell her name was fake.
Sakura: Aoi just needed to stop being an opp tbh. Like I get she thought it was everyone’s fault for Sakura doing self destruct but it would also sacrifice herself too. Like be fr 😭
SDR2: CH1: Honestly, I don’t get HOWW Ibukis hearing made it evident that Teruteru was under the floor. Maybe my memory is just TERRIBLE because I haven’t played that game since I was 13, but his voice didn’t sound off, far away, or had an echo. That trial genuinely confused me when I was playing it for the first time so bad I had to google a damn tutorial. Idk maybe I’m just dumb tho.
Ch2: Fuyuhiko literally just had to snitch but we all know he wouldn’t, so it beats me as to how tf she could get caught instantly. And side note for this chapter, omfg I HATE the part where Peko pretends to be that sailor moon looking hero Sonia was talking about (forgot the name). I get it was supposed to fit into a pattern where just like Toko was a secret killer, Peko was but she wasn’t. It felt like filler and it was annoying.
Ch3: ALL HIYOKO HAD TO DO WAS RUN. LIKE LITERALLY. LIKE WHY DID SHE STAND THERE WHEN SHE WAS THAT FAR FROM MIKAN OH MY GOD.

The simplest explanation for the inaccuracies and errors in murders and cool trials is that Danganronpa is a game with a linear and SEPARATE plot and a specific ending, which the player will get to in any case, that is, it turns out to be a solid work that can be considered canon.
Yes, many killers could have won if they had been a little smarter or more careful, and the games could have ended with someone winning the murder (I admit, I would have been interested to see that), but these stupidities and missteps were literally created to advance the plot , which lead to a kind of bomb ending, if you understand.
For a computer game where the game can end with the victory of any killer, the format would be more suitable, say, DISTRUST, and not specifically Danganronpa.

In fact, I really like this theory about the memories of the peaceful past when they were just studying..... It breaks my heart, but it also helps develop all sorts of other thoughts and theories about canonical events in games. Plus, I sometimes think that from severe pain or blows this could happen to Leon, for example, but since he only suffered enormous physical pain during the execution, he was in additional despair because he remembered his school life literally at death, and at the same time he was dying because all his classmates voted against him
