This footage & explanation makes it the best video i've seen in a long time, regardless the species of fish But especially with fly fishing & carp. I'm from the Netherlands and carp fishing is real thing overhere but.. with boillies and passive systems..great if you're into that, but my thing is fly fishing ..and carp is on my list! Great video..Subscribed!
Man, I've been an ardent consumer of fishing media, for I don't know, 45 years now? I was a commercial fisherman for 37 years and a licensed captain for 25 of those years. This video is absolutely one of the BEST I've EVER SEEN. It checked every box, and I can't wait to see your Alaska footage. Y'know, it would be really amazing to meet you sometime. Do you ever go to that Wasatch fly fishing convention / trade show thing?
I have tied it on a lot of different hooks. I have used just about everything. I still like the mustad, it’s in the sharpest, but it is strong and light, which is good for carp. I do think that pick is with the Fulling Mill.
Thanks, it is a Bote Rackham Aero. I actually did a video on my setup last year. My SUP Setup (Stand Up Paddleboard) - Carp Fly Fishing ua-cam.com/video/gXnMNudSWzA/v-deo.html
So I just picked up a new 6wt after using my old BVK 5wt. for years for carp. Of course I finally broke a section. In your experience, what is your favorite carp fly line to date? I used GPX on the 5 with honestly good results but like to hear from those who obviously surpass me in skill and experience.
For warm water, I like flats style lines like the RIO’s Elite flats pro. But it isn’t a good option for colder water. For cold water you can get away with a trout line. The other thing that can be a factor is what type of flies are you fishing. If you are fishing current, or deeper water mostly, a line like RIO outbound short can be good to turn heavy flies over. If you are fishing skinny still water. Then you will be fishing mostly light flies and those aggressive taper lines are way too much. That’s where your more typical trout line last will work better. I’m not sure I helped. Unfortunately there isn’t one good answer, but, we also aren’t bombing casts and can make most decent lines work just fine for carp.
@@carponthefly8282 In parts of Europe they are sport fish number one already. I try to promote fly fishing for them. In the next years world records will be broken on a fly rod for sure. Happy hunting!

AW MAN!! THAT'S AWESOME!!!
I will definitely do my best to make it!
Just have to finagle the time off work when the time comes!
Have you changed your Carp Maul hook? Doesn’t look like the Mustad DT in the intro…maybe Fulling Mill?

Great stuff!
12' leader and 4' 10lb fluoro?
So the whole leader is not fluoro?
It can be, but really the most important part of the terminal section. I do usually go full flouro, but not always
Big fish! great explanation. which kayak is that?

Fly fishing for carps is one of my favorite things to do with a fly rod!
I’m glad they are really starting to the respect they deserve. Thanks for watching and commenting.
