Hooked my first carp screwing around in an urban park pond in metro Denver while my kids were worming for 7” catfish. Took a #16 para Adams on 5x on my 3WT bamboo rod during the “Wonderbread Hatch. The pond was so small he couldn’t rip me into my backing (despite the frantic efforts) so just flew around in circles for a half hour while I waded out waist-deep into the muck. Exciting for a while and then people got bored and left, including my wife and kids, leaving me hollering in the evening gloom as the freeway lights flicked on from I-70. A solid 7lbs and yes I put the rod in my teeth and held the fish up toward the nonexistent camera. Glorious.

Thanks for the awesome video. Brings back so many memories of happy hours spent stalking tailing carp with my 4wt as a teenager in the late 90's in South Africa. I didn't know it at the time, but I learned so many tricks and tactics that would later serve me really well when guiding in the Seychelles..... Such an underrated fish and such a great way to fish for them!

Carp are lowkey the most fun freshwater fish to catch. Either on a fly rod or cranking them off the bottom. Good stuff, Ben.

What an amazing place to fish! We don't have carp venues anything like that in the UK as most are managed and stocked fisheries, but we do have a lot of very big fish that pull hard and fight dirty. Great video too.

Liked the longer video. 👍 Saw some smaller carp in local river yesterday..no takers, but did get a 16” largemouth and a few smaller ones, so all was good.🎣. Thanks as always Ben!

It takes folks years ....just to land there 1st one . Super spooky fish and they can see you as well as your fly line as you cast to them . we use mole crab flies for them . You are now my hero! You cast right handed and reel right handed! I have gotten so much grief over the years for doing that. They say, "You should cast right, reel left! Don't you know that!" "No, I don't know that -- what I do works great." "Yes, but it's not proper technique." Based on the video, I'd say what we do works great -- phooey on "proper." (Breaking off a few carp, big deal! Those things are monsters and anyone's technique will get battered with these bad boys!) Thanks for the video!
