    Great footage as are all your videos! Question: I recognize the location...is it possible to park a vehicle close to the venue and hike in and wade versus having a boat, SUP or yak? I'm by choice, boatless, and fish from shore or wading.

      Yes you can! But it for sure limits your options. Stay close the dike and you can find fish. Once you get out to the phragmites you can wade an around some too, but it can be pretty sticky

    Great content! Question about the drag and drop. I have been hooking into a few shallow clear water tailing fish. I have been fishing an unweighted damsel fly fishing like I do for bonefish strip strip twitch. Keeping my line tight ready for strip set. I usually get moss before it gets to the fish. It appears that the drag and drop is meant to put the fly in the fishes face and then let it sit? Maintain slack and then trout set? Would this help me avoid getting so much vegetation and possibly more eats? Thanks!

    • @carponthefly8282
      @carponthefly8282 Місяць тому

      Yes it would, and this is exactly what you should be doing. Ideally we don’t strip at all after the drop. It doesn’t always work out, but that is the goal.

    Wow so glad I found this video! I have a spot up here in Idaho I found and caught carp 40+ pounds. It’s like heaven for carp as there are thousands and the average size 20+ pounds. But I’ve always struggled because the water can be VERY muddy. Often times you can only make out a fin or the tail and they are cruising around. The water is pretty shallow so you can see them but they spook a lot because it’s shallow and muddy and by the time you see them they see you or hear you first. The information in this video helped tremendously and I think I’ll be able to have some more success fly fishing them. I’m excited to go after them now with more tactics and be way more stealthy. Thanks for the great content keep it up.

    • @carponthefly8282
      @carponthefly8282 3 місяці тому

      Without knowing your exact situation, my guess is something has educated them. They learn fast. The biggest thing is other fisherman. If you have fisherman chasing other species in the same area the carp learn much faster than those species that people are a threat. That lures splashing are a threat, that motors are a threat. When fishing places like that go long leaders and smaller lighter flies. It doesn’t suddenly make it easy, but it is really the only thing we can do.

      For warm water, I like flats style lines like the RIO’s Elite flats pro. But it isn’t a good option for colder water. For cold water you can get away with a trout line. The other thing that can be a factor is what type of flies are you fishing. If you are fishing current, or deeper water mostly, a line like RIO outbound short can be good to turn heavy flies over. If you are fishing skinny still water. Then you will be fishing mostly light flies and those aggressive taper lines are way too much. That’s where your more typical trout line last will work better. I’m not sure I helped. Unfortunately there isn’t one good answer, but, we also aren’t bombing casts and can make most decent lines work just fine for carp.

    Great video! My extended family and I are heading for Eleuthera in a week and I’d like to try some bone fishing while I’m there. Staying near Governors Harbor. Can I ask about some possible locations and more importantly, what gear to bring? Planning on a single fly rod (assuming only floating line), and buying some flies from my local shop prior to departure. Thx. Todd

      Sorry for the slow response, I was fishing in a remote destination for the last week. 7 or 8 weight rod. Size 4 gotcha. 12 lb flouro. There is a good flat on the west side of Governors Harbor. Just North of Governors Harbor. In between Eluthera and a small island. The best fishing is going to all the way on the North end or the South end of the Island. All of the creek systems are good. Savannah Sound just south of were you are staying can also be excellent, but it is very tide dependent.

    OK, I took a tranquilizer and watched the video. Noticed you have a sackful of YT videos. Who operates the drone? Attended a writer's conference; one fellow did a seminar on using drones. Interesting how he used them with some videos for examples. He did say he had a couple in Davy Jone's Locker. Thanks for this video and others, past, present and future.

      I also have a few in Davy Jones locker. It is an unfortunate part of the hobby to me. I have gotten much better recently though. I fly the drone myself, so it adds to the challenge for sure.

    Awesome footage and so jealous of those big fish in shallow like that. I got out on the local river once recently and was quickly reminded how wary the clear water carp are vs the redfish back home. Only landed one on the day but missed a bunch of takes and saw plenty of fish, after they sensed me and spooked of course. I took my 11 year old cousin out to a small nearby lake to chase catfish and tossed some corn just to see and ended up with 4 commons over 30" which was great fun for my cousin as he had never been hooked into a fish that refused to give up. He ended up with a limit of catfish too and it was fun seeing his excitement that day.

      That is awesome, and great you were able to get your cousin into some fish.

    That's an amazing video. Previously, I didn't know that carp eat food so actively.^^👍

      Thanks for watching! They can be quite aggressive eaters. A lot more of a predator than many people realize, but they can also survive mostly on plants in certain environments.
