This is why I won’t buy an AR in CA. 10 round mag, pistol grip fins, loading changes, etc. damn shame. Practically a 10-shot hunting rifle with worse features and extra heft for nothing.

We need stop making work arounds and just refuse to comply. Insanely unconstitutional, unsafe, and rediculous. Let's make a rifle with a weird grip angle hard to hold and aim, so you miss your target. Let's add a bunch of steps to load /reload so when adrenaline is rushing through your system, you can't operate the weapon and you become a victim.

It's difficult to refuse to comply, when the manufacturers don't/won't make the product available for the residents to be in non-compliance with. And even if a CA resident drives out-of-state to purchase a non-CA-compliant firearm, the FFL won't sell to a CA resident.

I have several AR rifles with the Juggernaut grip, 10rd mags, muzzle brake, and 16" (or longer) barrels. It's actually very comfortable to hold and shoot with the Juggernaut grip and their backplate, I really don't mind it at all. The fin grip is horrible to me, I don't feel like a have a good hold on my weapon with it, and that is dangerous. I bought a bunch of parts from Rifle Supply in the last 4 years, they are one of the best places in SoCal to get parts and accessories for AR builds. Everyone there is helpful and nice to deal with.

In New York we have the option of a permanently fixed 10 round mag and can keep adjustable stock and pistol grip. I’ve found that the MA loader is a good option for the setup. It’s essentially a stripper clip for the AR 15. Bolt locks open, insert MA Loader and feed rounds in, remove MA loader and bolt is seamlessly dropped and round loaded into chamber. Have had 0 reliability issues. Best way to use it is to keep support hand on gun and pressed into shoulder and use firing hand to load. However, in all honesty, I think the best option for compliance states is a rifle that was designed from the onset to be featureless. Items that come to mind are mini 14, that new sig thing, and the like. You get better ergos and manual of arms as compared to a chopped up compliance ar as well as removable magazines which we know gives you nice options down the road. As long as law makers are dumb to the fact, they are the best option imo.

  • @davidfields5627
    @davidfields5627 5 місяців тому +1

If you run dry with the help fighter kit, you will have to chamber the first round when you insert the next mag. If there is a hold open and you’re using it, then you have to send the bolt home before breaking it open and you still have to chamber the first round of the mag. If you have a double feed, it takes considerably longer to clear without being able to drop the mag with the bolt stuck half way.

I've perfected my CA setup, reference this boys.
I've got a Gen 4 ARMaglock with the Kingpin to replace the rear pin.
I'll address how I fixed its issues, the criticisms of it in this video are correct, but I have rectified them and it is very much worth it.
But first, I'll explain why maglock rifles are usually superior.
Firstly, fin grips and fixed stocks are inflexible, the fin grip in particular but broadly the fearureless grips as a whole make the rifle harder to shoulder or manuever with just the firing hand. This makes reloading more difficult as well as a number of other tasks. This only gets more difficult the more attachements or weight you have on the rifle, god forbid you have a quadrail. Retaining the pistol grip is worth it, just keep reading.
You NEED to have a flashlight on a defensive rifle. Thats weight out front. If u want a do it all, even night vision, thats even more frontal weight. That weight is really gon a add up and that fin grip is really gonna be a pain, and its not quick to take on and off compared to the Gen4 Maglock.
The benefit of the gen 4 maglock is that you can retain your bolt release, and not fundamentally change the manual of arms too much.
To fix it, firstly, I found a screw with a larger head that fits a larger allen key, but has the same threads. I shaved down the threads to the correct length, and replaced the tiny set screw. This tiny one has a very bad habit of stripping.
To prevent the button from walking off the rod, I shaved down the part of the rod the screw touches so that it would be flat. A flat screw end on a flat surface slips a whole lot less. The wider head and larger allen key allow you to tighten it much tighter without stripping. Make sure to shave the pin only a little bit, and to shave down where the screw touches it *as well as* everything to the left of where the screw touches as well. This is because when you go *out of state* you can use your allen key to simply adjust the maglock to a more spaced position, allowing you to release the magazine without splitting the recievers. I must stress you only do this *out of state*. Also, make sure youre shaving the right part of the pin, which is facing the screw when the maglock is assembled, (90degrees from vertical, facing down, in other words, the bottom side of the pin)
Shaving the pin to have a flat surface for the screw also gives the benefit of not letting the button rotate so much, meaning the button wont miss the gap in the reciever when the kingpin splits it as often.
Another issue the ARmaglock has is that when the bolt is locked to the rear, the recievers don't split apart far enough for the mag lock to slip into the crack and release the magazine (Unlike when the bolt is forward). To fix this, I shaved down the "pokey bit" that goes into the gap into a sharper point. *Critically* this is only a subtle change, do not shave off any length, just narrow its width so it can fit into a slightly more narrow crack. It should still lock the magazine (by not poking into the reviever gap) when the recievers are closed.
I also shaved the two recievers slightly when the maglock slips between, so it has a sort of "ramp" to get into the crack. This is especially helpful when the bolt is to the rear and so the crack in the recievers is very small. However. Dont overdo it, the change is subtle. The maglock still needs to function as it was designed.
The kingpin is a good design as well, as it can be removed without tools, and installed with just a sharp object that I know you have, such as a pocket knife. The kingpin is *very necessary* for this build to work. The whole thing relies on its ability to split the recievers quickly.
Ive got rail covers, IR equipment, a large and powerful flashlight, VFG, whatever muzzle device I want, and importantly for CA, a pistol grip, all the while being fully compliant. Furthermore, I can change my magazine in mere seconds.
When I go *out of state*, I can simply get my allen key, loosen the button screw and scoot the buttons a few millimeters out on the rod, retighten it, and use the button as if it were a normal magazine release. No reciever splitting necessary. (Remember this is *out of state* )
In my pistol grip, I carry a spare maglock set, just in case this one were to walk out and fall off. However, with my modifications, this has yet to happen despite some pretty rough use.
You get basically a fully functional rifle, but legally when you're *in state* and the maglock is *on* , you've got to use 10 (or 5) round magazines, even if you legally possess standard capacity or high capacity magazines. When you're *out of state* , like I said, just adjust that maglock a few milimeters and you have what is baaically a fully functional rifle that will take any magazine.
One more note: sometimes you wont be able to release the magazine with the bolt to the rear anyway, and on that occasion, i have a BadLever to help. I can release the bolt and pin the bolt rearward with the firing hand, allowing my support hand much more freedom to manipulate magazines and the charging handle. I would strongly recommend a badlever or other device that allows the firing hand to drop or pin the bolt.
Feel free to comment questions, I'll probably answer them.
Featureless isnt bad, tho, especially if it's not a defensive/SHTF rifle with a bunch of shit on it.

As a non Californian, this is really informative and really solidifies my loathing for your shitty laws.
One thing that I usually do with an ambi safety that might help you for your weird horizontal juggernaut thing is use my trigger finger to throw the safety back on. I take it and kind of curl my finger back towards me around the safety lever and rotate it rewards and up. It’s much easier than using your support hand.
Or just get a Radian Talon 45 degree throw safety? Don’t know if that’s legal there

Good on you guys for even bothering to make this video. I couldn’t do this stuff to my rifle. Might as well leave it home in pieces and take out another platform. One point you missed was that Pistol ARs must be maglocked. The magazine outside of the grip is considered a verboten feature on pistols and you can't get around that one. So featureless isn't an option. There are a few straight pull/single shot AR pistols on the roster as well as a few other methods to buy an AR pistol lower. Most of those can be legally converted to a semi auto (upper or gas system swap) by the owner but must be AR mag locked to avoid constructing a banned weapon.

But it is awesome that companies like Juggernaut have stepped up and created products to help us 'law abiding' citizens out.
