You have to let the paint dry for a few days before you can get them dirty/wipe them with a cloth. The new paints do not include fast-evaporating VOCs. You can run your bike and that will bake the paint, though. I had no problems with fuzzies at all, but I did the painting over the course over several days. Also, did you shake up your paint really well? That may cause some problems if you did not. Make sure you do light coats.
Thank you for this video, I've just scuffed my engine dropping it off the paddock stand like an idiot - I'm going to apply this method to fix it up and get it looking nice again.
The best way to prevent that is to make sure you feel as if you under-spray, but spray 3-5 coats of paint. Practicing on some sheet metal lets you get a good technique down. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
After I sanded the first time with 500 grit, cleaned and put on a light coat, I then sanded with 1500 grit and cleaned it again with 90% IPA. Problem is I seem to be getting very tiny fuzzies from my cotton cloth. Tried microfiber and it still seems to get a little fuzzied. I let that first coat dry for several hours so i don't know why it's still feeling a little sticky and getting fuzzy after I clean it off. Any thoughts?
The plastic portions get plastic protectant, but anything painted gets waxed, though I typically only use spray wax on the matte portions. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching. I have been painting things for many years, and it is all in prep and the quality of paint. You must take your time! PJ1 is a fantastic product, as is their chain lube.
No, I don't paint bolts because when they need to be removed, they will not only be marred themselves, but the paint will likely begin to peel from the cover as well. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
You just saved me a bunch of money. This is an excellent video with excellent content. It was painful for me not to be able to help ya out cause I, as I’m sure you did in editing, notice that piece of debris from it’s very introduction or intrusion rather. AAAGGH! You are zen brother cause i would’ve lost my shit and OCD sanded it all down again. 😂
redonKiLaus Thanks for replying! I just got back in from the first sand and spray. What do use to wipe when using the alcohol? I want to make sure I’m not leaving pieces behind of whatever I use. For example i wouldn’t want to use a paper towel because of the little fuzzies etc. Thanks!
@@nwbklr I used cleanroom wipes being involved in the semiconductor industry, but you can always wipe with a microfiber towel and use a tack cloth to remove any excess material.
@@redonKiLaus I love the idea of cleanroom wipes. I also used to work in a semiconductor fab facility many years ago. I wonder if Amazon carries those...
I wet sanded the case a bit until the lines were not visible and then polished the case back to a nice satin finish. It looks perfect to this day. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful video Sir, Especially for me! I'm facing the same problem but it's not after crashing its naturally happening. Sir my question is will it to good polish the engine casing ? What type of polish it should be? WAX or Foam? & Do this will create any problem when the engine is totally heat after ride.
You can polish the painted surfaces, but if they are matte or satin they will become glossy with polishing. To protect them, I like to use spray wax, which doesn't cause any issues with the finish and won't have any issues with heat. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Just want to make sure I order the right paint. PJ1 Fast Black Engine and Case Paint, in Stain Finish, Product number - 16 SAT. PJ1's site shows only two finishes, gloss and satin. The finish I need would the satin, right? Thank you for posting your DYI videos, they are most helpful.
Sharpie works for you, sure. Someone suggested the same to me - but on a new bike I too want my bike to look like it was never scratched, therefore, the strive for perfectionism. Plus, after the hard work and due diligence he put into his work and shared it for our benefit, the sharpie comment was disrespectful.
your methodical approach and step-by-step attention to detail offer a strong encouragement for people who wouldn't ordinarily attempt common repairs.

Nice video...I learned a lot from it! I need to repaint some chips on the engine case of my motorcycle, and will use what I have learned here.
Thanks for watching!
I used satin black, PN PJ1-16-SAT. That is the correct paint that you're looking at. It is for sale on Amazon. Make to sure to shake very well.
I always tend to spray too much ... hard to stop spraying before i get paint drops ... :)

This is top tier. Very well done

is satin black color fit engine color of yamaha r3,r25,mt25,mt03 ??
It's probably the correct color, but I don't have experience with Yamaha bikes so I can't say for sure. Thanks for watching!

do you wax your matted black fairing or just soap and water ?

What about the lines/Blend where the tape was? Didn't you feather it in as you can still see where the 2 colors meet.

Cool Doing mine next week. It was your vid that inspired me to do it. Nice work.
You should only tack rag between coats; there is no need to wet sand unless a mistake was made.
Thanks for watching! It came out absolutely flawless!

Don't start the spray on the part. Start it on the paper, move onto, then off of the part.
Magneto?? I don't think so. But thanks for the Video.
