Thanks for the great tutorial, David...I have been using your drum treating techniques on my EZ Drummer tracks for a while, you just cemented what I have been doing. I had seen a few tutorials from other site saying you shouldn't EQ or compress these tracks as this had already been done during sampling, but the results speak for themselves. You are, in my opinion, the most trusted recording/studio guy on UA-cam...Thanks again!
By the way, one major thing I did learn from the tutorial is assigning the outputs within EZ Drummer, and the DAW populates the tracks for you...I didn't know that one...good to know!
schnowtza Hey, thank you for the kind words. I am glad i was able to help and you are getting something out of my videos. I really appreciate your support.
Hi David. I've been following your tuts for some time. This particular one came just at the right moment for me, just wanted to say thanks. I'll definitely be getting your made easy series soon. I agree with an earlier comment that you are one of the best instructors on YT. Keep up the great work. You have a supporter here. Kind Regards, JAC Music.
James Cowan HI James - Thank you do much for the compliment. I am glad you find my videos helpful and your productions are benefiting from them. I totally appreciate your support!
good video, almost exactly what I do too, adding your own parallel compression channel really helps too. I find the slate fairchild to add too much brightness, luckily it has a mix knob!
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I truly appreciate your support
Great tutorial....I did not think that it was possible to edit my individual drums beyond the mixer in EZDRUMMER 2!
Thanks so much!

Thanks David. Nice tip and demo.
RecordingStudio9.com Thank you!
Super video!. ..I had no idea that you could do so much individual processing on EZD2! They need to come out with a "David Vignola" EZ Mix Pack!!!
Very cool Approach! Thank you!

Love the channel...Since so many people doing drums this way... love to see a tutorial on setting up/mapping the midi keyboard controller to ezdrummer for maximum ease of use!
Thanks Mike!
Nicely done! The only issue I tend to find with most of these kick drums is the click. With certain ones, I can minimize it and instead bring out a tight yet elastic sort of dynamic right at a punch level with the bass. Retains definition and adds real impact.

subscribed! well explained and really effective! Reaper and ez drummer user here
Awesome, thank you!
I could never get my EZ Toms to sound powerful, this is great, Thanks a lot
Glad to help!
Great video - you really breathed a lot of life into the sound. Did you have to pay extra for the features of having two different kick and snare mics? I have just the regular edition of EZDrummer 2 - no expansion packs, but fully up to date, but in my mixer (no matter which kit I select), there's only one mic each for snare and kick. It would be nice to have the bottom/out for more control, but I'm not finding any info about it. Thanks!
I have several expansion packs, so that may be why.....
Thanks so much
You're welcome!
Hi David , thnx for the tutorial , i watched many of your videos , always learning something from u ...i use ezdrummer in studio one and i dont have the drop down arrow to activate the outputs , i need do it a different way .. and after that bounce all to audio ..i want to know after u activate the ouputs , is it in audio or still in midi ? can u plz make a video with ezdrummer in studio one , will be a great help ..thnx again

VISION Recording Studios Great Video David! Do you feel the Console emulation works better as the last plugin in the chain, as the first or no difference?
RayManuel _ slight difference but there is no right or wrong way to doing it. I would say experiment with it
I got it thks...

Hey David, thanks for the video. Did you change your DAW?
erickenn96 No. I use a few different DAW's depending on the project I am working on. I like Cubase 8 because it allows me to bypass all the plugins at one time so you can hear a quick before and after effect which can not be done is Studio One, at least not yet :) so for my YT videos if I need to do such a thing i am going to use Cubase.
Hi David! Great video! I just discovered your channel so I have a long way to go with you XD! Question: Let's say I export to audio every track of the EZ drummer into my session (kick in mono, toms in stereo and so on) and then I do the exact same process of EQ and Compression on the audio tracks...will the results be any different? Basic question, but I felt like asking you. Thanks a lot, man!
the result should be the same. But I prefer to work in the S1 mixer as opposed to the EZ drummer mixer.
Got it!
Hey great vids - did you switch completely from Presonus to Cubase? If so, just curious why. I am using Cubase 7.5 and love it. Not sure if I'm ready to jump up to 8 pro based on a lot of Steinberg forum reading.
Guit N Good Nope have not completely switched. I do like Cubase 8 for demo videos however!
hi David , i have some questions , 1. this video is only on ezdrummer , no other intruments tracks , what if there were other tracks , would u use the same plugins on the drum bus and the master bus ? 2. why u didnt use tape machine ? can u make a video again with ezdrummer or any other virtual drums in studio one and including other tracks ( like a complete song ) ? thnx

Do you have any experience using Stillwell's The Rocket bus compressor? I'm a big fan the 1990 console preset.
Never head of it
Would like to hear this mixed with song. How well does EZ Drummer set in with a mix ? Thanks!

Big difference..👍

Hi i was hoping if you could help me, when recording a band (Not live) what order should you do the instruments in? i only have a 2 channel interface if that helps.
***** Not enough detail. E-mail me with specifics and maybe I can help!
I've thrown a 'like' in there because of the detailed explanation you provided, but I've yet to hear ANY VST Drumkit sound anywhere near as good as my Friend's Gretsch Renown Fusion kit, and I have tried them all.
Fair enough!
do you have beginner tutorials? I want to learn more about recording but I don't much about mastering and all these filters and stuff. All I do is basically record with my pedal for guitars directly through USB on reaper and import midi from guitar pro 5 for the drums. But the drums always sound weak and not powerful or full.
I have many tutorials for beginners on my channel as well as on my website
www.HomeRecordingMadeEasy.com
Hi Davei good explanation, what is the suggested roll off cut/ boost for the Toms i got all the other settings, thank you
typically, roll off everything below 90HZ
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Thank you keep up the good work Dave
i understand why you would have eq on each drum track but why did you put an instance of tape emulation on each when you seem to have the same setting for each? Would it be better to put the tape emulation on the drum bus in that case?
You could do that. I just prefer to add tape to each track. It adds a bit more compression and color.
David - when you break out EZdrummer to individual channels, when you convert the midi track to audio in studio one will the processing disappear or will it render while converting to audio?
not sure. This video is pretty old and I have not used EZ drummer in a long time. sorry
Ok - I'm going to try it and worse case scenario I can always change it back to midi. It just with it being an instrument track plus all the processing on each channel, it takes up a lot of precious processing power. Great video though really well done!
Home Recording Made Easy what software did you move to?
thank you for the video. I'm actually looking for a software to make drum beats for rock music but I don't want to learn how to play the drums myself, will this program give me the full access for what I'm looking for ? I play guitar but I don't have any drummer, therefore I'm looking for an alternative.
thank you again :)
EZ Drummer is what I would look at
A question regarding controlling the NLS channels... For some drums like Superior Drummer 2 I have more than 8 individual drum channels in my DAW, up to about 12 or something... So how do I use the NLS Buss on the Group Channel fro the individual drums? Is it still enough to use 1 instance of NLS Buss or do I need 2 of those to Control the 12 NLS Channels? A VCA Group on the NLS Buss is only covering 8 NLS Channels, but I have 12 of them...
not sure I understand. I would multi-track out the drums from SD into studio one so each drum is on it's own track and then add the NLS to each one of those tracks
Home Recording Made Easy Sorry Im not english speaking or bad at explaining my problem. But... NLS is a 2-plugin software, right? You use the first part of it (NLS Channels) on the individual tracks in your DAW, then insert the second part (NLS Buss) on the Group Channel for the individuald drum tracks, right? Well so far so good, but here comes my question... Since I have more than 8 individual drum tracks, maybe up to 12 or something, do still only need one instance of the NLS Buss on the Group Channel of the individual drum tracks? Or do I need more of those? Or in other words, is it enough with one instance of the NLS Buss to control all the 12 NLS channels inserted on the 12 drum tracks in the DAW? But then I can control them by using 2 different VCA Groups in the NLS Buss plugin, right? Well, thats my conclusion anyway.
"I would multi-track out the drums from SD into studio one so each drum is on it's own track"Yes, I've done that."and then add the NLS to each one of those tracks"I did that too.But... Then, this is a "2-piece" plugin, so I was wondering I put "NLS Channels" on all the individual drum tracks (Kick In, Kick Out, Snare Top, snare bottom, Hi-hat, OH, Room mics, etc). Then I added a "NLS Buss" on the Group Track that I call "GRP Drums", it's a stereo channel in my DAW where I route all the individual drums too. So that's where I add the "NLS Buss" to be able to Control all the "NLS Channels" on my individual drums, correct right? So I can quickly change between the three "emulated consoles" (SSL, EMI & Neve).But... The "NLS Buss" have "VCA Groups" to Control the "NLS Channels", as I understand it. And only 8 "NLS Channels" can be controlled by one VCA Group.But... I tried this and from my understanding, if I have more than 8 "NLS Channels" I just put the 9th and so on on the next VCA Group (number 2) and it wont really matter in anyway, or????Sorry I'm probably explaining this badly. I'm not english! :)
Hello Dave, great tutorial
I was just wondering how do you record individual tracks to cubase . Let say to have an Audio track of the kick, snare etc.., do I just press record on each track and play EZdrummer ?
I noticed you added the eq, tape, and strip on each individual track. Can you not add them to the Drum bus to save gpu?
yes, of course
Thank you, can you use the drum pre set on the tape machine for each track( i have Kramer) or would you reccommend a different setting?
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy what then is your reccommendtape machine setting or preset??
Hey man how do you connect the ezdrummer 2 to sonar X3? Do you have like some kind of video that I can watch? If you do can you please message me back I would really appreciate it thank you!!!!
no idea, sorry
Dang!! Cuz I hate recording all my drum tracks on a CD format it, then put it in the computer, then put on Sonar X3 track one. It's just so much of a hassle, there's got to be a better way of doing this besides wasting all these CDs? If you can come up with a better solution I would greatly appreciate it thanks!!
How do you bypass the whole section as one? Like you only need to bypass 1 and all the other EQs also Bypassed? I tried but couldnt on my Cubase.
Dont know how to do this in Cubase,,,,sorry
Solo or un-solo or mute/un-mute the group with the drum bus?
FG MU is based on the Manley Vari-Mu i think. www.manley.com/mslc.php#custom
GemCityStudios Thats not what Steven Slate told me at NAAM. According to him it is based more on a Fairchild. Either way it sounds really good!
Hi Dave this is four years ago. Are you still processing your EZ drums the same way?
yes, pretty much
Pl Help How to Off all insart Plugins in console .
I don't understand what you are asking
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy i want to Bypass all drums plugins together in console like you.i can't find any option in cubase 10.5 pro.please help me.......
Nice tipps but not affordable plugins for home recording....too expensive in my opinion
Thanks for watching
Reaper (free DAW) has some fantastic, free built-in VSTs. You can accomplish much of the same goal by using Reaper's ReaComp and ReaEQ features.
They are now..
The EQ was enough for me, thank god because my wallet has flies!

Simple solution: insert a compressor or limiter across the full mix out of Ezdrummer.
Not even close to the same thing, but ok you do you :)
