Another great video Chris. Videos like this really help us newbies understand what is probably very simple for the more experienced mixers. I would love to see more videos like this explaining the finer processes of getting the sound that's in your head. Great stuff my friend.
H-Comp is a classic. I first discovered sidechaining bass guitar and the kick drum with H-Comp. And now my H-Comp is at V13 thanks to your heads up ;). Great video!
Enjoyed this video and learnt a lot not only from this video but the rest of your videos. Clear precise instructions and advice…love it. Lastly thanks so much for the deal on the H-Comp plug-in…very much appreciated.
Cheers Chris, The only person that makes 'Parallel Compression' sounds so exotic when he says it : ) Definitely will introduce H-Comp to Cubase's stock Tube/Vintage/Multiband compressors in my Plugin Manager folder. Cool promo, Thanks again mate
Interesting option that punch knob. The Vintage Compressor in Cubase has a button with a fixed setting, I guess. But it works good, though. Thank you for your video, Chris.
Those are the Verum 1 www.verum-audio.com/ They are from the Ukraine, they are off business for now because of the war, but I will make a video on them when everything settles down, soon I hope!
Blending an over compressed signal with the dry signal will make the sound more "in your face". A slow attack will not give you the same effect. One is not better than the other, it all depends on what you're mixing and what you want to achieve. Hope that helps!
Sir do you know ?Your work and appreciation Help us a lot.. a got a late notification so I cannot download 😭 Please do This kind of more free plugins 😀❤️
My dear colleague, you havent mentioned that a slow release time added a significant peak to your signal and made it quite louder when it comes to digital peaks, most likely has decreased your rms value of your signal, changed the dynamics of that signal, and finally in some cases colored it. You have to be bit more advanced when you explain such a delicate thing.
Thanks for your comment and for watching my video. I don't use slow release times on drums. 30ms to 100ms is considered a Fast Release. A slow release time will actually do the opposite,as you mentioned and push an instrument back in the mix, and not make it louder. Secondly, this video is about the Attack time and adding punch to drums. Talking about the release time is a topic for another video. I like to keep my videos on the short side and easy to understand.
That is weird. I just got the compressor and it lays already among my other plugins in my account. Maybe it is worth you try again. They want you to answer first a very short survey. In one minute it is ready.
10ms is still a super fast attack time for drums and a kick, no? I usually see people sitting it around 30, I don't even mind going as high as 50ms for a kick
Between 10-15ms works pretty well for me, but I play it by ear since not all compressors will react the same way. Whatever sounds good for what you want, is the way to go.
Chris... I've spent 45 minutes chasing that free download from Waves. It is an extremely and unnecessarily convoluted process. I know it's free, but they could have gotten this done in 5 minutes or less - including showing me all their other cool stuff. Normally, I don't comment on this stuff, but it's just extremely annoying and can't be good for their business... if you can communicate this to them, you should.
Why don't you make a new problem to for us to making sound (phasy). I am not feeling well to listening this type of technique but without of its cons from you. Wao people fooling us everywhere in 2022. Please stop .
Making it sound "Phasy"??? Parallel Compression and Attack time on drums is nothing new under the sun. If you feel I'm fooling you with me taking time and energy sharing my knowledge, just stop watching my videos.
Best Breakdown Of An Compression Video I Ever Seen, Plus You Used The Perfect Plug In For Those of Us That Wear Glasses.🙂🙂
Great video! Never knew about what the punch control actually does. This is really useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the free plugin! 🙏
Any time!

This is a real good compressor. kind of a best of all waves compressors.I wonder if I need the LA3A
It's a good one for sure! LA3A is also good, I like it on Bass
Thank you Chris!
My pleasure!
Great! Perfect :D thanks u so much
You're welcome!
It worked!
What did the kick sound like without the compressor (at equal output level)?
Is this a good compressor to use on drum busses?
Iv always wondered if what to do to keep the transient untouched glad I got that compressor it should help me from sucking the life out
Well, seems like I need to reinstall the H-Comp. How do you decide how much gain reduction do you use?
Nice one Chris, clear concise and no where the word “warm” being used 🤣🤣
😁 Lol! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you.

Hey Chris,
What for brand and type headphone do you wearing in this video ?
Look very nice to wear.
Can I buy this one somewhere ?
Those are the Verum 1 www.verum-audio.com/ They are from the Ukraine, they are off business for now because of the war, but I will make a video on them when everything settles down, soon I hope!
I was able to get the compressor for free through you. Thank you
Just in time! You're welcome!
Any fixing to Breaks and fills?
What’s the difference if I use the plugin in stereo
Спасибо за полезное видео!
You're welcome!
Riddle me this: What's the audible difference between increasing the attack time and blending in dry signal?
Blending an over compressed signal with the dry signal will make the sound more "in your face". A slow attack will not give you the same effect. One is not better than the other, it all depends on what you're mixing and what you want to achieve. Hope that helps!
@@mixdownonline Thanks. I can never visualise the difference when thinking about the transients but that makes sense.
I got to tell you the new oversampling feature in Reaper makes all waves plugins more relevant. Especially compressors.
That looks like a cool Reaper feature
Thanks 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
And great explanation. As always!

Punchy comp for my drums, certainly different to all of my other comps. Good tips and video, thanks for free bee.!

Only one feature missing in this comp.. SC HP
Otherwise perfect compressor
