"you should not try to make your drummer an octopus"
programming a midi in guitar pro and throwing it directly in Ez Drummer is a very good way to make grooves also.
To anyone that has Ezdrummer, try messing around with the different kits. You'd be surprised what you might like. I'm using the Dirty Rock kit from Ezdrummer vintage, with a few alterations, for Blackened Melodeath. Sounds huge and gritty
not familiar with the drummers you mentioned - but that's the beauty of music, you can learn so much even from genres/bands you might never hear otherwise. re: SICK drummers - you should check out Hellhammer(Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir), Inferno(Behemoth) or George Kollias(Nile); even if it's not your cup of tea music-wise, these musicians are freakin' CRAZY talented!
I write the drums line on GuitarPro, export MIDI and open it on Recording Software (I use Sonar).
Trey....you are amazing.
Great video Trey. Keep up the good work. It is appreciated.
Another tip.. cut your tempo in half when adding drum parts.. much easier to hear and add/subtract.
I use a midi keyboard and just hammer things in, do overdubs if necessary, touch of quantize and velocity adjust and I'm good. Loops are for cookie cutter.
i usually program from scratch being a good drummer helps a ton i can typically program a full song with intricate drums ina bout an hour or two
The head bob test - I love it! A tutorial every guitarist can relate to!
nice vid.... would be more helpful if you could turn the click track off after you've some of the pattern so the drums could actually be heard. cheers
Ah yes...oh the many hours I have spent in a DAW painstakingly twiddling MIDI notes to try to create a drum track, very very similarly as to what is shown here. The frustration of having a pre-made MIDI loop(s) fit with ANYthing I ever tried manually inputting LOL....THE biggest drag of all time in recording into a DAW as a guitar player imo, is the drums. Someday, some software is gonna simply be able to listen to what I play , and come up with all the correct drum beats in the correct feel and I won't ever again have to bother with it, ha!
Thanks for this, great insight
Cool I have been studying how to better program drums for my guitar riffs. I use a mini Akai professional LPK 25 wireless
Learned a lot...Thank you
Hey man, been really enjoying your videos :) Could you share the guitar & amp used on the guitar track? I actually really dig the tone! Cheers
When I do fill in, example rolling from snare to rack tom to floor Tom i usually write all midi notes on snare then try to mess with clicking the mouse to move the midi note to right place.
Good stuff man!
Who knew Will Ferrell's brother was a sickass producer.
