i got this one on vinyl, its a beautiful version
The audio joy of a real band. Classic in every way.
The original studio version is jazzy but this arrangement is much more so. Yes, you are listening to real musicians.
Multiple female vocalists. Incredibly beautiful.
Thanks JJ! This live version is the one I grew up hearing more because my dad had ALL of Kool & the Gang's albums and played this version in the house A TON mid - late 70s. I remember when he got this Love & Understanding album. This was released in 1976 a couple of years after the original studio version. It's sounds like it was in a studio because where it was performed live was at the Rainbow Theater in London that was known for its superb acoustics and sound and because of that some of the biggest 70s groups performed there and recorded live songs or entire live albums. A lot of people don't know their first few albums early 70s were funk jazz albums then they went more funk mid 70s and then went full R&B late 70s when they added James JT Taylor as lead singer.
Yeah I've heard this one before. Didn't hear this version often back then on radio play. It was usually on the late night Quiet Storm type broadcasts. There are some AMAZING live versions of some tracks that jam harder than the original studio versions and sometimes not. The EWF Gratitude album is a perfect example ESPECIALLY "Reasons" the live Version vs the studio version.
I always loved this song, so pretty...in movies, on the radio, here. Very nice live version. The sign of great musicianship is a tight live performance.
Saw them in '77 and '85. Each time the arrangement on this song was different. Kool & The Gang were notorious for experimenting with their established music during live concerts. There's actually a couple of live versions on UA-cam (if it's not already taken down) that's different from this one. This is from "Love & Understanding" live in London.
Love both versions of this classic jam! You heard almost every car going up and down the street in the neighborhood I lived in back in '74 blasting the original, smooth version that took your breath away. Great summer memories! (tc57)
Hey Grasshopper, firstly Kool & the Gang were originally a Jazz band. Secondly, the vocals were in the studio version as well. It's just that those tracks were mixed to blend in with the background. One thing to note, any serious musician worth their salt won't perform a song the same way as the studio version, bc of a number of factors. The audience is present, there's the energy that we give off, the sound dynamics are also different according to the sound design of the performance space. Besides, a live version that departs from the studio flexes the creativity muscles for everyone's enjoyment!
This is Back before they started making pop music, when they were pure funk and smooth jazz
This might be my all time favorite song. I have to thank you, you react to the best music!!
WOW!!! Forgot about this version. Love it!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
those sweet summer nights. young and old was vibin' to this one it was those summer nights. the arrangements.background vocals.jazz fused funk played soulfully
this, everybody loves the sunshine by Roy Ayers, riding high by Faze O and Rude Movements Sun Palace are said to be a great weed smoking soundtrack, so I hear. (children ummm... don't do drugs mmmkay?)
🤣🤣🤣
Great reaction!!! Never heard this version in my life. Love it.Gonna ask Robert (Kool) Bell who the singer or singers are on this.
This version is a Monster!!! I have this album, I love the live version and added female vocals. Classic band that doesn't get enough love for their impact., influence and versatility. Much respect.
Another great group and I like this song and this band.
Wow, beautiful, this was my first time hearing this version as well. The vocals were just right - this is still an instrumental - yes!
1976...this is the best Version...They are straight outta my state New Jersey..this is when they were still into their jazz thing { they started out in the early 60s called "The Jazzacts}..come the 80s they sold out started playin CORNEY disco shit...
WICKED, WICKED maun !!!! The recorded version didn't have vocals. This is the live version. Kool & the Gang is a vocal group. If they were performing in concert, that's probably why they added the vocals.
This version is my favorite ❣️❣️❣️
Thats a live performance for ya baby!
😮 Sadly I Have Not Heard This Version Of Song From Kool And Gang. I Thought This Song Was An Instrumental Only That Was Later Sampled From Dr. Jazzy Jeff And Will Smith To Compose " Summertime 🤔
Wowww😬 I forgot about this version. They freakin killllled it!!
Very nice 👍🏿 wish I could’ve seen this performance 🎭🎫🎸🎹🎷✨👍🏿💞😍💝🥰🥳
This was the version from the best of koolanth e gangbests recordsfrom1970 to1985
Can’t wait for more Kool & the Gang ;)
This is the (in my view) best version of this song. Check out “Outlier” by Snarky Puppy for some killer live jazz groove.
Bruh you definitely have to check out Graham Central Station " the jam " 🔥 🔥 🔥
MP anytime JJ make those faces like something smell stank he going to enjoy it…..LOL yea there are 2 version with and without voices ❤️❤️🔥🔥
🤣🤣🤣...yep!
I prefer the steady, mesmerizing quality of the studio version, but still, this was very cool to hear.
