I'm a bit concerned for the other guests who probably now believe that there's the ghost of a British bloke who roams the corridors in the middle of the night giving a running commentary! 😲

  •  7 місяців тому +51

😂 He was making all those spooky noises in the corridors, opening those doors, the stairs, whispering. Anyone in rooms may have freaked out thinking it was a ghost. Oh! The piano and the noise! 😂 He played ghost for a night without knowing.

Hi Tim, apparently The Lady in Red was stabbed and strangled between rooms 502 and 504 on the fifth floor not 512. Her room was split into three separate rooms, 502, 503, and 504.
While 504 is now officially the Lady in Red-themed room-lavishly festooned with scarlet curtains, a flowy bed canopy, and matching period furniture-more activity has actually been reported in room 502

I've stayed at the Mizpah Hotel twice. It's worth mentioning that the town lies in the middle of the remote high desert between Reno and Las Vegas. Part of the spooky vibe I got was rolling into town after sunset through some of the darkest night skies that you can imagine. The sign on top of the hotel is the brightest beacon of light after driving several hundred miles through some very remote territory. There's a small casino next door and a whiskey bar across the street. The town is very dog friendly. I don't think it was literal dog smell in the hallway, though dogs are welcome at the hotel (I brought mine). To me, it smells musty, similar to many historical B&B's in the UK. This is probably the nicest hotel in NV between Vegas and Reno on US 95. If you're a light sleeper, you may be awakened by the many long-distance trucks that barrel through town all hours of the night. You might have had an older mattress on your bed. I recall the beds to be quite comfortable.
If you do want to freak yourself out a little, leave your room and go down the stairs to the lobby in the middle of the night. They keep the hallways very dark.

The smell is the haunting. There are often chemicals being given off in these very old buildings, sometimes very low level carbon monoxide from heating systems and other chemicals from older paints, carpet cleaner etc. These play with the brain and cause "haunting". A clean hotel with clean smell and nice fittings will VERY rarely be reported as haunted.
This one is playing on all the stereotypes :)

Gorgeous building. Proof that you can own an old hotel and still keep it clean and pleasant (Britannia, take note!). If there are spirits there, they must have sensed you were nervous and decided to leave you alone for the most part. Or maybe they knew you were in the room with the wailing window and decided that was hair-raising enough!

Tonopah is a great place, and the Mizpah is a fantastic hotel. I think my wife and I once stayed in the very room in which you stayed. She and I organized the 74th West Coast Science Fantasy Conference (Westercon 74) in Tonopah, using the Mizpah, the sister hotel the Belvada, other local hotels, and the convention center, in July 2022, and we had more than 150 people who came from all over the USA for a four-day event here. Back in the 1800s you would have found that desk in the back office; it would have been where the Madame balanced her books and paid her bills. 18:09 The vault appears to have a cashier's/attendant window to the right of the door - likely served as the cashier's cage during the casino period.

Great, loved watching that. I happened across this hotel a few years ago when travelling with my 3 children. I had driven for miles that day after google maps took us down extraterrestrial highway so we were already a bit on edge. I had no prior knowledge of the Mizpah and only ended up there after the western down the road tried to charge me 250 dollars for a room. Whilest chatting with the receptionist my daughter spotted the guest book and tugged at my arm to tell me about the book of ghostly encounters! The receptionist said ah dont worry its only the fifth floor but you can take a look at your room and decide if you want to stay. So we piled into the very small lift and pressed 2 for our floor. Suddenly, in absolute horror I realised the lift was taking us to the 5th floor! we all freaked right out but then my son pointed out it only looked like the number 5 because of the mirrors and it was infact a backwards 2. We didn't even walk into the room as the kids were adamant they weren't staying after seeing the gloomy corridoor and photos, baring in mind we still didn't really understand the theme of the place, we just thought what the hell is this place! 20 minutes later I was walking back into the great western with my credit card in hand. To us, arriving after dark after such a massive drive, we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and tbh still felt weird in the western hotel, we hadn't even seen the Clown Motel, that would have finished us off I think.

Lol I got spooked watching you and I don’t even believe in ghosts. The squeaky doors are a great touch and the pictures are spooky. I’m really enjoying you Vegas videos but I miss Caspar and your better half 😊. This hotel is great but I couldn’t stay there alone 😱

I hail from Eureka Springs, Arkansas and we have a hotel called the Crescent and it's been a girl's school, a cancer hospital run by a fake who committed mail fraud and performed experiments on patients and a couple of times it's been a hotel. I've had experiences there that are totally unexplainable. Not to mention that Little Switzerland aka Eureka Springs, Arkansas is a very eclectic and beautiful and historic town.... it would be well worth a visit by you. It's an underrated area by those who haven't been. But it's the favorite of anyone who has been

Hi Tim. Thanks for sharing this haunted but interesting hotel. You're very brave to spend a night there. I don't think I could sleep well. I would be paranoid thinking someone touched me, etc. Would Gaby stay here with you? I would definitely take my hubby to stay here with me. I like the photos & that huge empty bar. Very vintage. Cheers Tim, you're a champ

Just stayed there a couple of weeks ago so I could explore Tonapah. What a great little hotel! No, I didn't get spooked, but I did freeze in my room!! So I told the desk in the morning and a nice gentleman named Steve brought a portable radiator in my room which solved that problem!!!
And I gotta say, the breakfast was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So was the Sunday night prime rib and the great server in the restaurant!! Nice lady from Washington and she should be recognized by her boss for her customer service!!
    I'll be back.

Looks and sounds spooky. I think the howling wind and creaky floors would keep me awake. I stayed in an old hotel in Scotland and people walking up and down the hallway at all hours, too noisy.

Absoloutely love these haunted videos, Tim! Definitely sounds like you had some encounters there! There is an app for your phone which you may or may not be interested in, it's one I've been testing recently (I was sceptical at first, because it's a phone app, and I know there's a lot of them that are fake), but this one comes highly recommended by paranormal investigators here on UA-cam, and I've had some very good experiences with it myself - it's called GhostTube. It's basically like a spirit box, which enables any ghosts to use a selection of 500 words or so to talk to you. I tend to ignore the first message it comes out with as I find that's usually it calibrating, but after that, I have found its responses to be pretty darn compelling. It also has the ability to record short videos if you wanted to include the footage from the phone. Anyway, just a thought!

When I was 6, my family moved into a 21 room Victorian house that was supposed to be haunted. I watched all the time, hoping I would see or hear something. I even did Nancy Drew and tapped on walls. Nothing, although in the basement sometimes it felt like someone would brush my arm. There is much about that hotel and the furniture that looked very familiar, I was very homesick. The pictures look 3-D bc the glass is domed.
