This is how you do a refit. It looks beautiful but still has all the elements of the original building either featured or as a novelty talking point. The architects and designers who worked on this should be applauded. I would love to stay here but I get the feeling just from the video that it is 100% haunted. I’d definitely need a sleep buddy, too!

In my humble opinion this is easily the best and most interesting hotel you have ever visted on the channel, and I think the price you paid of £130.00 a night including breakfast was very reasonable given the high quality and general ambiance of the place. I live up in Nottingham but am definately going to make the effort to have a couple of nights here at some point. Maybe all the staff should dress up as 'screws' to add even more to the theme....Just kidding, but being serious, this hotel looks fantastic!

Stunning. The designers and tradesmen have done an amazing job. The attention to detail that other places miss, like the spot on lighting to create the atmosphere.

I visited Alcatraz in San Francisco many years ago when they were in the early days of preparing it for the public to visit. During the tour we were taken to a solitary confinement cell which felt very authentic because it was dirty and stank. They asked for volunteers to go in and have the door locked, so of course my boyfriend and I volunteered. We were locked in there for three minutes. The heavy door was a foot thick and there were no windows, pitch black for three minutes felt like a lifetime!

What an incredible concept! Such a masculine vibe with black combined with elements of steele, stone and leather. I love the details, like the former chapel ceiling and the automatic strip lights that luminate the grid panels in the main halls, otherwise its low light ambient. The diamond plate panels in the gym, even the bars and chains at the entrance, even the ghost tour! I don't think it's overdone because they have to offer something extra ordinary to attract guests. I would stay there for sure!

I love this idea! Reusing such a unique & historic building; doing enough to make it a really good hotel but sympathetically. The stone is so warm & unusual - like a castle.
Good a poor prisoner, staring at the cell ceiling, ever imagine in a million years that it would one day be a hotel!

  • @MrGreatplum
    @MrGreatplum 2 роки тому +38

That’s a fabulous conversion - really nicely done. I think it felt so quiet because of the thickness of the walls.
Famously the jail is one of the places where Derek Acorah, a “medium” was caught out! In an episode of Most Haunted, Acorah claimed to have been possessed by a spirit named Kreed Kafer, a South African. It was later revealed that "Kreed Kafer" was a fictional character, who was created purely for the show - it’s an anagram of “derek Faker” 😆
Love to stay there - one to put on the list!

Watching your footage I sensed the most creep when you entered the bathroom - utterly still, no noise, no fans, no sense of anyone else left in the world that hadn't been hung already. The only downside must be, however, that carpet - really dubious sub-Spoons pattern, that!

I think they're emergency bells. They had mechanisms for wires

It’s a shame you didn’t get the chance to visit before the new owners took over and ruined it. I have photos with actual ghosts in, glowing faces and orbs. It’s not the same now.

I have yet to visit Cornwall (it's on my 'bucket list') but when I do, this amazing place will be my top place to stay 👍

Do come and visit us. I live smack bang in between Devon & Cornwall (the border city) so I get the beauty and magic of both amazing counties 🙂

Must have cost an arm and a leg to convert the jail into these rooms! So creepy though. Don't think I could stay there even with all that luxury behind the cell doors. You do such a good presentation of places, it's such a shame the TV people don't snap you up to present some of their programmes! They're missing a trick for sure!......x J x

Actually many people have now ditched their tv licences, and many more are continuing to do so. I don't watch any mainstream tv but watch platforms like this, and good, original content makers, like Tim. So much better...

Hi Tim, this is an experience which I'm very intrigued to take part in. Looks very different, very eerie but very modern as well. I might have to check this out next time I am down Cornwall!

This place looked fantastic. I just watched this after 'The best in hotel in Whitby' and damn this place is so much better. I'd love to stay there!
The atmosphere is such a nice balance of cosy and creepy. Everything looks quality. More places need to reuse old buildings like this and do it right (So not Britannia...). It's soo cool.

Love the idea where instead of deserting or destroy but using them for something highly productive.
