I don't know about anyone else, but the main reasons I didn't get a Wii U until much later: 1. I didn't have an HDTV yet, still rockin' my 32" CRT (so why bother with an HD console) 2. I still had plenty of Gamecube and Wii games I hadn't played yet, and I was more into PC games at the time anyway 3. I got married in 2011 and didn't have much time for gaming in general I finally got a Wii U right before the Switch came out because I didn't want to get them out of order and I thought I'd wait on the Switch (I ended up getting it at launch anyway).

No doubt and I never owned the wii u and do own a switch. Yeah because no one would want a 8GB system, even for Nintendo that wasn't enough. Also black modes, black consoles, black phones, we were on that era.
I literally did the same thing about 2 weeks ago. I got it for two reasons. The Virtual Console and HD Wii games. Metroid Prime looks fantastic on it. And being able to play Super Mario Advanced on the console is great. I feel Nintendo put more love into the Eshop of the Wii U than the Switch. I got lucky and got mine as new old stock. Was a brand new Wii U in the box. I really like it and wish I would have gotten one earlier.

Believe it or not, the screen is still original and in basically perfect condition.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is one of the few that I've triple dipped on. I've got the Steelbook edition, the regular white case edition and I've bought it digitally on the Wii U when it became available. Even after all of that I'm still hoping they port it to the Switch.
I'm sure they're planning on porting it the year before MP4 comes out, there's no way that they'd just release 4 with no modern way for people to get into the series first
Someone jammed gel into mine, but yeah that thing was amazing and more durable than the Nintendo switch (or maybe I just can't take care of things lol)
This is my 2nd favorite console. Highly underutilized. Really, the graphics let developers down again. I would have bought all of my Call of Duty games on it if they made a map on the controller. I really loved the handheld screen being utilized in Mass Effect 3, Super Mario Maker, and I really think they should have done revamped Mario Paint. It was an amazing console, just needed more refinement and some faith from 3rd parties.
I don't see the graphics as much of an issue. Consoles are always weaker than PC. People use consoles for other things, such as Mario Party / Kart, Smash Bros, Guitar Hero etc.
Graphics didn't do this console. The lack of 3rd party and horrible marketing (like calling it wii u instead of something) us pretty much what did the console in.

This and the Wii are my favorite consoles of all time. I grew up with them and really appreciate the niche idea that Nintendo was going for here. The Switch could learn something from these two consoles tbf
Wii U was trash af. The original Wii was the good ass shit. Though, the Wii U did have some good games like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, and Super Smash Bros. 4.
Uhm, I don't think that's necessarily true. It's just kind of a weird system that didn't appeal to many people. The Wii was super accessible for everybody as a home console and easy to learn motion controls, the Switch is a good portable system that you can take anywhere easily or you can hook up to a tv. The Wii U, tried to do both of those things and it fell flat. It had its easy to learn motion controllers from the Wii, but it also had a huge gamepad that was required to do most things including changing menu settings, so it wasn't a true home console, but you also couldn't take the gamepad more than 25 feet away from the console, so it wasn't a true mobile system either. Just kinda in limbo being a good console to play in your bed.
I've had the Wind Waker Wii U since that released so many years ago, it's great. It allows me to hook up composite cables to a CRT and play DS Games on a CRT, the greatest abomination ever.
Nah, it definitely would if Nintendo didn't port all of its games that were worth a damn. But what does it have now? A couple of HD mods for the GameCube Zeldas and Nintendo Land? ...Not a lot.
I got a WII U for christmas when I was 6 and I was so happy. I remember seeing the box that said WII U with Super Mario Maker and it was the best feeling ever
Wii U is special : you can’t ever have the experience people had when the Miiverse was live. The system and lots of games lost value with the Miiverse not there anymore.
@SnappyJon everything in this life requires moderation, I used the Miiverse in the 3DS, just purchased the Wii U last week and it seems for what have seen on the videos that missed a lot, the Switch lacks a lot of things, not only the Miiverse, the Streetpass but as well with those themes/icons that we had in the 3DS/2DS
I was unfortunate enough to get a Wii U in 2017, having only a month, maybe two of time with Miiverse, but the time I did have with it was fantastic and I still miss the service every day.
Yeah, the Wii U is really good, especially the virtual console. A little while back, I bought and finished PMD Explorers of Sky for a really cheap cost. It's honestly the first game I ever really cared about, and I got it on Wii U, so it's great. Nearly 100 hours.
I actually almost got a wii u to upgrade my old xbox 360 on christmas 2016, so we put a wii u on layaway which had the bundle with mario bros u and then i also placed minecraft wii u edition in there as well, but then I heard that they were gonna discontinue the wii u and everything so I got a ps4 slim instead.
There are even NDS Games on it (only a few, but still). If the Wii U never failed this hard, we might had seen some sort of 3DS Cartridge Adapter to play the Games on Wii U
@@jorge_m-h4g the marketing was trash, but the console was fine. People fail to remember the Wii U suffered from a total lack of 3rd party support. The Wii U had some good games on it, and a person plus for me is it actually had a great web browser function. It also had a pretty good skype-like app on it, though what sucked was you could only do video calls there, you couldn't talk and do something else. The Wii U had some shortcomings, but honestly it wasn't a bad system, the lack of 3rd part support and bad marketing is what killed it.
I love the Wii U!! I bought it not long after it came out and it still currently hooked up and I play to this day. I have a switch as well but the Wii U still gets plenty of action lol. I'm currently playing Devil's Third again. Man what an awesome underrated console!!
My friend convinced me to get one back then, and glad I did! Watching my wife experience BotW recently has been a delight and I hope my kids will enjoy it as well.

You can say that about Any system if it wasn’t for the GameCube there would be no wii if it wasn’t for the dsi there would be no 3ds it’s called evolution
And the Wii U still has one edge over the Switch - simultaneous display. The Switch, by its design, can never do that, and it makes the Wii U continue to be special and important. The problem was that later Wii U titles got gimped in preparation for Switch re-releases. I will never stop being salty about Breath of the Wild losing the GamePad-integrated map and inventory management options that it was supposed to have on Wii U.
I got my Wii U from eBay in January 2021. It's a brand new one too (never used, box has never been opened), & I love it. I use it as often as I use my Nintendo Switch.
Aside from when a friend let me borrow his Wii U for a week to try it out, I've never used one before I got mine, so I'll use mine for a long time before I'll ever get tired of it. So I figured it would be worth getting a brand new one so it will last for a long time. Also, I just prefer to get brand new game consoles rather than used ones. That way, they don't have damage or wear.
Yeah, it is a bit on the pricey side, but that was the cheapest unused one I found, so I went for it. I'm having a lot of fun with my Wii U, so it was worth it in the end, I think.

Man, the coop in monster hunter 3 ultimate with 3ds is awesome, and you know, wii support, virtual consoles and with modding, a lot of options become available ;)
I’m gonna be honest, I hate it when systems that fluke become collectible. It’s just annoying how all the bad stuff is the prized possession of some collector instead of the thing he has the most nostalgia for. I’ve made a point to only collect things I’ve enjoyed as a kid, and things I’m genuinely interested in now, rather than go after the “valuable” stuff and treat it like stocks. 20 years down the line I will cherish my switch lite I got when the pandemic started when switches became impossible to find, and I will love the n64 I got for 64$ that gave me my love for older games in the first place. For anyone out there that wants to collect, go after the things you love, not the things you think you need. At the end of the day buying a Wii U because you see it becoming rare is the same as buying some old car that you think will be valuable. It will eventually be forgotten because of the other cars that were easier to find and preserve were the only ones left to be remembered. At the end of the day, the consoles that leave the biggest impact are the most valuable because they shape the future in a way, they are something to be proud of owning in your youth, something to show off and say “when I was a kid I loved the shit out of this thing”, not something to be horded in adulthood because it’s hard to find.
GameCube didn't sell well yet is highly nostalgic and highly collectible even for those who didn't grow up on it, same goes for Wii U,Vita, and DreamCast.
I love the Wii U actually, played so many good games on there. The best gaming memories is when me and my brother did 100% Mario 3d world, the best game to the console i would say. The wii u is an amazing console, Nintendo just didn’t market it properly and subsequently no one knew about it at the time.
If that bs Microsoft is doing with its name isn't confusing enough people to destroy the Xbox, the name did not have a role in what happened with the wiiu
@@clydefrosch It wasn't just the name. Nintendo's marketing did little to clarify that it was actually a new console and not a DS lite style rehash bundled with a peripheral.
As a huge fan of Nintendo I absolutely say without a shadow of a doubt it had very little to offer anyone.
@@SidNightWalker Phew, I'm so glad you came along to clear that up for us. I will stop liking my Wii U posthaste!
I don't know about anyone else, but the main reasons I didn't get a Wii U until much later:
1. I didn't have an HDTV yet, still rockin' my 32" CRT (so why bother with an HD console)
2. I still had plenty of Gamecube and Wii games I hadn't played yet, and I was more into PC games at the time anyway
3. I got married in 2011 and didn't have much time for gaming in general
I finally got a Wii U right before the Switch came out because I didn't want to get them out of order and I thought I'd wait on the Switch (I ended up getting it at launch anyway).

“Scott has 6 of em”
Bold of you to not mention Scott’s other broken wii u’s he uses as props

I always wanted to play some wii u games like Mario party 10 (ik many people hate it but i watch all the time on youtube and it looks fun), smash bros, legand of zelda, and other games. I have nintendo switch but I badly want a wii u :(
What should I do, at this point I am desperate to get a wii u.
It's weird that you did this, because I actually just started playing my Wii U again this week. Going back to it, I really did miss it. The Wii U is super underrated (Edit: It's underrated and it's Nintendo's own fault. Damn)
Wii U isn’t underrated it has trash controls trash third-party support and trash marketing and the ones that I miss is DS Wii and 3DS
@@jorge_m-h4g it's underrated because of the bad marketing. That really screwed a lot up for it, but it ended up having really great games. Most of which are on Switch now, but they originated from this. I'd say I enjoyed it more than the Wii, 3DS and DS, but that's just me
No it's not
@@KatsuyaTheFuuk Honestly though, I don’t know what they were thinking calling it a “controller” on all the adverts for the console. Most of the Gaming community doesn’t even know this console exists. Along with the PlayStationTV or PlayStation Vita.
Wii U is one of the biggest mistakes in videogame history.
releasing another weak console right before PS4/Xbox knowing those consoles will be much more powerful.
8GB of storage ? online functionality ? marketing ? it's s*it
I feel like I'm one of the only people in the world who much prefers the Wii U to the Switch.
Me too lol
You should feel like that, because that is the case.
The wii u is way better than the switch for the fact u don't have to pay for online
@@pumbashow7240 But the switch has better online games (i.e., Splatoon 2 is undeniably better than Splatoon 1, Smash Ultimate is undeniably better than Smash 4, New Horizons has pretty good online gameplay while the wii u has amiibo festival, I could go on).
@@pumbashow7240 ya like why do you have to pay for online?
Got one of these recently for peanuts. Intended as simply an 'HDMI Softmodded Wii', it has ended up just being a Wii U! The VC and disc library is very impressive. Just playing remastered games on the VC (so slick on the gamepad) is worth it on its own!
"Compared to other consoles"
Virtual Boy,N64DD,Atari Jaguar: *Stares in distance*
@..
I'm talking about sales, not quality. The Wii U and N64DD are great but I'm talking about sales.
Never had a Wii U, so this is like a history lesson to me.
Really?
@@lolcat You are confused that they don't have a Wii u?
You missed out.
@@mildlydispleased3221 it’s an overpriced underpowered console of course no one will get it brother you can emulate every game and make 4K on 60fps on a good pc not even high end just a good pc
It's actually a fun console and has the better experience of some of the ports. Tokyo Mirage Sessions, for example, while given more content on the Switch, used the gamepad as your cell phone, and it makes reading all the texts you get and looking at the map far easier on the eyes and more convenient. Nintendo Land is also pretty great, and Yoshi's Wooly World is a lot better than Crafted World. It's limited, but what is there that is unique or takes advantage of the gamepad is pretty good and can easily make the purchase worth it
Correction: Scott only has 4 Wii U's, which are necessary in case he gets lasagna on his main one.
Edit: Correction to myself: Scott bought a 5th Wii U.
Forgive me, who’s Scott?
I believe I saw on twitter that he recently bought a 5th

And now I feel hungry 😅
@@DoubbleDdragon yeah I remember now lol bad memory
I have a memory with this console: In 2015, mario maker was released, so my friend called and said he got it for christmas, so we played at his house on christmas morning... Ah man, good times...
@@MD77248 sometimes, it does feel like it
@@MD77248 6 years is actually a long time, although for many adults it seems short because we waste a lot of our time and don’t experience new things often which causes our perception of time to speed up dramatically.
You deserve a lot more subscribers. I seriously learn so much from you videos. Thanks.
I'm glad I still have my Zelda Wind Waker special edition Wii U. 😋
Got one in 2019 for myself for Christmas. 80 bucks at a pawn shop.
One of my friends sold me his for $80 for the console and all of his games. My gamepad charging cord stopped working shortly afterwards, so it was REALLY nice to have a spare!
Love the Wii U. It sits right next to my PlayStation 5 as my second system.
I just got mine and I'm in love it might just be because I was expecting something in line with wii graphics but everything I've played so far looks really great. Playing the xbox one and ps4 I could be just as happy playing wii u with its vibrant graphics and the controller feels like a switch without taking the joy cons off which feel tiny to me.
I love my Wii U. Hacked I can play damn near every Nintendo game to date.
Lol yeah I did that as soon as I got it outta the box.
you can even play phantasy star online (gamecube) on the wii u, even with online functionality on fan servers ;)
How did you get gamecube support to work? Also can you mod it to make the gamecube adaptor compatible?
Indeed. The people saying it sucks never used it to it's full potential. I've had 2 Deluxe models. I bought a Switch ago and I've saved a ton of money on all the ports. Hacked Wii U + Switch is a golden combo.
@@ajmk2845 GameCube adapter works, not sure what you mean by GameCube support but you can just download the emulator Nintendont which runs GameCube games almost flawlessly or you can run your GameCube through usb loader which has a nicer setup with box arts and spines.
I started playing TP HD again last week. So gorgeous 😍
I've been thinking about buying a Wii U to for the virtual console mostly, and this video sold me on it. Now I just have to save up the money for one.
The Wii has virtual console so you should get that instead
@@jorge_m-h4g The Wii shop channel is dead so I can't use it. Also I already have a Wii.
@@vslazer6728
So you can have all the VC games for free. On the wii.
@@54356776 how?

Homebrew of course, hack the thing, mod it, you know 😂 Nintendo doesn't support it anymore and it's one of the easiest systems to do.
"scott has 6 of them at this point" lmao
I think that I was one of the last in the world playing Devil's Third online... haha. I love that game, it's like a blockbuster 90's action movie.
The Wii U is a great console, I had years of fun and I still am today.
The Wii U is an awful console that you should’ve not owned it never play from today.
@@jorge_m-h4g Every word that you just said was wrong
@@gamecubeguy01 your wrong
@Sir Sus alot of the criticism came from lack of 3rd party support for games. The console is great but lacked variety in terms of games. Jorge is full of shit.
@Sir Sus I agree!
They really need to release Twilight Princess HD on Switch.
I think Nintendo is going to give us a Zelda collection for it's 35th anniversary like they did with Mario. I can see them adding Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD on it as one of the games.
There is a Wind Waker HD for the Wii U
No it can stay on Gamecube, Wii and Wii U. It already was made and remade.
I've owned this for years on my gamecube and still not played it ops
I bought mine the day Nintendo Switch was released. LOL it was very hard for the cashier to comprehend when I was asking for the Wii U rather than the New Nintendo Switch. After Hacking my Wii U man it was the best purchase ever. Later down the track I purchased the switch but I still play my wii U
