Its going to be interesting to see how this system is received by the collecting scene. While most of the first party games were ported to Switch, they are often arguably better on Wii U since they had gamepad specific features that were compromised for the ports.
Just bought a Wii U. Way better than I thought. I have been playing it way more than my switch. Yoshi's Wolly World is the shit. Also cool to play all my old Wii games.
For any wanting to play StarFox listen carefully, don't play the main story first. Go to training mode and spend about two hours learning the controls, because the motion controls are kinda complicated. There's a minus button that swap screens and you have the ability to turn the motion controls on or off in the pause menu. It's easier to shoot everyone in first person mode, where as all ranged mode is easier for avoiding enemies.
Modding a wii u with aroma allows you to remove region locking from everything including gamepads and also if you mod your wii u you can also mod your wii mode wii
Somewhere online is a video of Breath of the Wild playing on the Wii U with the game using the game pad for map and inventory while the main game was being played on the TV at the same time....something that the Switch could not do. They disabled this feature when the game came out on the Wii U. Also Thomas Happ who created Axiom Virge said the best way to play the game was on the Wii U as it uses both the TV for the game and the gamepad for the map. This is the only version of the game that has this feature.
I have a copy of Breath of the WIld on the Wii U with the misprint showing all the controllers available including motion controls. Would have been nice to have the gamepad for the map for the game. Also I have axiom verge physical. The box is kinda mashed so I might keep it for a bit.
I plan on modding one of my Wii U systems eventually. I usually prefer systems being stock, but I always like what the mod scene brings (like RetroArch to unnecessary consoles).
Must have games are The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker/Twilight Princess, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Paper Mario Color Splash, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Splatoon! There's a bunch of other games but the main ones are on the Switch such as The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and etc! Honestly a lot of the games are completely different compared to Switch because of the game pad, a game like Pikmin 3 is so much better to play on the Wii U.

The Gamecube controller also works on MarioKart and is my preferred way to play. The Game Pads Bluetooth chip WILL die (not if, when) and is easy to replace, but is increasingly difficult to find. If you find that you are getting more communication error messages and are having to move closer and closer, this is what is happening. I understand the concern regarding the memory degradation, but the fix seems easy; turn your Wii U on every couple months, play some Ducktales, and you should be fine but the Bluetooth issue is more of a hardware issue and there are only so many replacement chips out there. Also, get an external hard drive that is independently powered (ie has an AC plug) or you may end up bricking your system - those types are getting harder to locate as they are out dated tech so get one now.
I have a Wii U with very few hours on it, I haven't run into any issues with the gamepad's bluetooth chip yet. I just bought a pro controller with the idea of keeping wear and tear off the gamepad. I think the memory issue was due to a certain brand of chips used in certain consoles produced in 2012. Mine is a 2014 model and was unplugged for ~7 years and it powered up fine. I use a 2.5" HDD with a splitter cable that provides enough power, what's the issue with bricking consoles?
@@r3tr0sp3ct3r The Wii U Pro Controller is, to me, the greatest controller ever made. Smart choice and that will definitely help the reliability. I have 2 Wii U 's and have only had one Bluetooth chip die on me but I'm thinking 20 - 40 years down the line for long term collectors. The external drive issue is pretty straightforward. USB without an external power source use the attached unit (in this case the Wii U console itself) to power themselves and the Wii U is literally underpowered. Like you said Nintendo did update the hardware and that may have been an issue mostly with the early models but I'm not willing to take that chance.

You have absolutely no clue why the Wii U failed. Casual gamers did not buy the Wii. People who were non-gamers and wanted the Wii for exergaming (Wii Sports, Wii Fit, etc, plus Just Dance) as the people who made the Wii a hit. They (wii) did NOT switch to mobile gaming! Nintendo abandoned US by making this shitty Wii U that had a screen we didn't ask for nor had any use for and it failed because it could NOT upscale our Wii software and the only people who wanted one were Nintendo fanboys. In fact if you look at sales of Nintendo consoles from the first (NES) to the last (Wii U), and ignore the Wii, it was a constant downward sales spiral that simply made Nintendo leave the console market for good in 2017. Now they only do handhelds.
