I don't care what some people say about Winger, they fucking rock and I love them!!!. This is one of their BEST songs ever. I still have the In the Heart of the Young cassette. I bought it when I was 12yo (1991). Nothing can beat 80's hard rock!. Cheers.-
I was 16 when i heard this Amazing song on French radio , that s one of the best song i know , its a mix of poprock , hard rock rock prog , extemely powerfull , with a drum solo !
This was Kip's masterpiece at the time - took him 8 mos to write. What amazes me is how well they do such a hugely complicated and intricately layered piece of art live with just 4 people and absolutely capture the essence of the song and nail it everytime. Breathtaking...
They are one of the few bands from my early twenties that never got the credit they deserved. They were just considered a pretty boy band who didn't have any talent but they had more talent than anyone realized. Still going strong after all these years and Kip is taking off with his classical side. Reb can still play that guitar like their is no tomorrow. Wishing you many more successful years. Yes, I agree with Deckard. They are one of the bands that sounded good live as in a recording studio.
Excellent performance. Love this complex and beautifully written song, I haven’t heard many like this, so unique. I was waiting/hoping for some additional lead guitar from Reb at around 4:14, on top of the backing guitars. He plays so beautifully.
I feel a little bit of a TOTO vibe on this song! I think Kip Winger has a sophisticated taste musical-wise for the Heavy Metal category. Definitely underrated musician.
Saw them in Columbus and they rocked!!! Reb Beach was awesome. Nice guys as well and hung around afterwards to meet fans. They sold out the Alrosa Villa. Hope they come back.
I'm a fan from basically the beginning of their career, and had *no* idea they pulled off some of their more progressive material (and so well) live back in the day - absolute props, and I'm looking extremely forward to seeing them in February on their US tour. A well-overdue experience.
I always listen to this track and the album in the autumn. The first album is more of a summer album for me but I can happily listen to them at any time
That bad rap has been shot down repeatedly by Kip's talent and longevity - particularly with his solo stuff. The new album just might be good enough to lay that to rest for good. Of course there will always be the haters but life's too short to listen to or care about what they have to say. They are touring this album heavily so keep a lookout - they're still working out scheduling. How about FL guys? Nice and warm after Dec in Russia!
@Redrinkarnation Reb's singing is phenomenal. I actually prefer his voice to Kip's (not that I don't love Kip's voice, he's awesome). I just found out he plays piano too. I'm wondering now what the guy CAN'T do!
Exactly. You cannot imagine how bad the Great D.C. has sounded at the last leg of a tour - a bootleg I've heard via internet! Also keep in mind that it's windy and rainy out there in Roskilde. Even in the summertime it can be cold in Denmark, at times. And to chosen1here: bear in mind that even cigarette smoke that vocalists are exposed to in ferries, hotel lounges etc. does no good for their voice. When I heard Winger later in '91 in Finland it was a real hot summer day, and he sounded perfect.
Dream Theater was around as Majesty in 1985. Winger wasn't formed until 1987. I can see where they might've influenced each other as contemporaries, though. All the members of both bands are excellent musicians in their own right.
Winger has everything you'd want from a band. It's a kick in the nuts that music made the inexorable path to being homogenised and mindless. Winger were one of the last great bands, every member being talented and inventive. My favorite member is definitely Reb Beach, he's the best one.
Roskilde '91, I was there, it rained for 4 days....sometimes sideways! Bloody cold! Winger was good, but Iggy Pop and Billy Idol later that night were even better ;) I loved it when Iggy flipped the bird up to the sky and said "Fuck you God!" as it began to rain even harder. Copenhagen RULES!
Yeah. That was so much better than what we just saw huh? I can do that all night in "loop style" if that's what you want and if you have enough money. He should do a whole album. 12 tracks at least. Of nothing but him saying that. Gotta love Iggy. Now THAT'S some real talent right there. GTFOH
I remember this one, I tapes this gig And the Primus gig to my old vhs... fantastic gigs both of them... However... Kip is a bit off beat in the initial part of this one... but that's all... he finds himself quite quickly. Good times. 👏👏👍👍🍺🍺
great! Winger could pull this off live night after night....Too bad they got slagged as being posers when they could play circles around most bands out there.....
The "new guy" as in John Roth who's been w/ the band since 1993??LOL. Who can incidentally, play keys and bass. But Kip does the arrangements and has chosen to do keys himself and incorporate the bass part in the left hand. Lots of vids up of their recent shows and his vocal range is still pretty impressive. A lot better than most of his contemporaries. Just sayin...
You're right, but I quite would not rank TNT that high. They've only 2 good albums, Tell No Tales and Intuition. Besides, I cannot stand the tone of Tony Harnell's voice... Ronnie LeTekro is, however, in the top league of guitarists. He's goddamn innovative, but in the songwriting front they never were up to Winger or Giant.

Absolutely , winger and in the heart of the young are two top albums ,freaking amazingly awesome
I was 12 too. Loved this song then, love it now.

Amen amen amen. This song isn't just another tune in an album. It's absolutely a masterpiece. And I freaking love rebs vocals as well.
Reb amazing in the harmony vocals...
I agree 💜 ❤ Reb's voice is better than Kip's in this perfomance, in my opinion!
Amen
Fantastic band and amazing song.
One of my favorites

Kip is an under-rated bass player!!
Top level musicianship and songwriting. Also excellent guitar work and backing vocals by Reb Beach.
Excellent performance. Love this complex and beautifully written song, I haven’t heard many like this, so unique. I was waiting/hoping for some additional lead guitar from Reb at around 4:14, on top of the backing guitars. He plays so beautifully.
One of the best voices I've ever heard!
Fantastic. Always so solid live. Kip and Reb are dynamite together! Fan since 88'. It's 2022 now. WoW❤️🔥
I feel a little bit of a TOTO vibe on this song! I think Kip Winger has a sophisticated taste musical-wise for the Heavy Metal category.
Definitely underrated musician.
Maby their best song. The outro is amazing..
Kip Winger is simply beautiful....
Im def starting to realize these guys can really play. Hard to sound this good live, but they pull it off. Great show!
Probably one of the hardest Winger songs to pull off live. Amazing performance ❤
just saw them in Scottsdale last night...they killed!!! excellent and underrated...
tara
Been a fan of Rod Morgenstein for a while now, going back to the Dixie Dregs days. He's one of the best out there.
kip winger inspired me to play bass
I believe it. I really like the arrangement and mix....the guy has a terrific ear.

Nothing like The good old days 🤘
Love Winger for their prog like refrains, pure class.
Saw them in Columbus and they rocked!!! Reb Beach was awesome. Nice guys as well and hung around afterwards to meet fans. They sold out the Alrosa Villa. Hope they come back.
the base comes through so nicely on this. great quality
Awesome forever a fan. Much Love Winger

Great
Wow Winger strikes!
post other songs that winger did at the Roskilde Festival

Oh my god, they played at Roskilde! God damn me for only being 6 at the time!:(
Roskilde '91, I was there, it rained for 4 days....sometimes sideways! Bloody cold! Winger was good, but Iggy Pop and Billy Idol later that night were even better ;) I loved it when Iggy flipped the bird up to the sky and said "Fuck you God!" as it began to rain even harder. Copenhagen RULES!
