    Pro tip for those who don't have power shears, or just want to do it faster. Cut the back side of the shingle, not the sand side. One score, then bend to break. Great vid.

    FYI: Your starter strip is supposed to have the tar side down to the edge of the roof. Also, the pipe flashing is probably going to leak. That doesn't look like the right flashing for that kind of pipe.

    Connor NOOO....you shouldnt lay shingle when the temperature is lower than 45°. The nail going thru the hard material can cause the shingle to shatter or crack around the nail hole allowing rain and snow melt in .. also the tar stops on the shingles wont tack the the other shingles in low temp and no sun .. I dont mean to bug u I love all the videos and try to comment constructively.. so if you do see leaks it might be from the cold .. but you will more than likely be good

    • @lawnrebel
      @lawnrebel  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah instructions did say that it would need to warm up to tack down but didn't say anything about not installing in sub freezing. I read them all. They didn't shatter. I watched for that closely as that was a concern of mine before I started.

    Sorry to Monday morning quarterback......you should cut the backside of shingles to save your knife blade. Also, instead of cutting 5" off, why not cut it in half and use the half every other row? (Half, full, half, full). Much less waste. No need for a tape measure, either.

    • @lawnrebel
      @lawnrebel  3 роки тому

      There is a pattern to these shingles. They are designer 50 year shingles. You have to follow the pattern. There was also very little waste with a single pitch because I used the cutoffs on the opposite side of the roof. Cutting in the back side... Yes. I'm not a roofer and was doing my best.
