I was fitted earlier this year for some p770s with stiff graphite shafts as an 18 handicapper going from off the shelf m2 irons. The difference is night and day and I've finished the summer season now playing off 13 (whs 11.3). Beautiful irons, that have completely transformed my game.

I feel like TM updated the P790 irons in 2023, but did not update the P770 at that time. The 2023 P770 was a carryover from the prior year.

Redesigned based off the looks of the T100/150 perhaps? When I first saw these that was my initial thoughts. Ball felt good off the face and they sounded nice indoors but went with the Wilson Staff blades.

    • @rufussthoo4083
      @rufussthoo4083 3 місяці тому +1

Exactly what I thought too, CP. And (almost) exactly what I did - put a blade/CB combo set in the bag. There's nothing better on the market than the Wilson's.

My guess as to why they brought out a new set was to blend with the new CB. Tried blending the MC with the 770 and they just don’t match up. They worked on matching the lofts and flight to go with the new CB. I’m going for a fitting next month.

    • @wallysnakes2690

It seems like all they tried to do for this model was dial in the spin more. The '23 model ran out a bit more on average than the new ones. So maybe since the 770's are profiled (generally) for better players, they wanted to offer that little extra control? Incredibly close but that seems to me what they are trying to achieve

Anyway I haven't had a chance to try the newer version and don't think I would anyway this last year's model has been the most perfect irons I have ever hit all the way down to the 4 iron and I even picked up the approach wedge which I usually don't in a set but the approach wedge is so good I had to get it. Not disappointed in my 2023 version irons as I'm only a combined 1 over par total over my last three rounds, but, I still would prefer to have the newest tech considering I paid full price for what I thought would be the newest version for at least another year.

The P-7CB caused quite a stir when it first showed up as a single lone 4 iron in several pga tour bags with PROTO stamped on it, a very positive reaction
and will be taylormade's hot seller, whether in full sets or 7-pw, maybe even 5-pw with different long irons/utility irons. Love the video Rick. Seems crazy for a company to be putting out irons that are essentially identical as an iron they released a year ago. It's almost a slap in the face to the consumer. Thanks for calling it out.
A little constructive criticism though. I've noticed a trend on the new channel where the editing and mixing is just not the same standard as the main channel. I mean, a year ago, Rick shiels would not be releasing videos with missing links and distorted left/right audio.

They look like Takomo 101Ts . $1200 for something you can get for 1/2 the price doesn’t seem like a good thing. Nice review.

Friend has one and my other friend has the other. Feel similar. The takomos feel harder physically on the contact and are much chunkier. The TaylorMade are softer feeling and feel a little more consistent. Takomos sound better but the taylormade p770s are much better feeeling but takomos feel better than the p790s

I think they look great, surprised they went with those Lofting’s, but I wouldn’t entertain a set of irons at £1,200 that are out of date in a year

I'd say when comparing last years 7i to this year's, you have to look at the standard deviations on the data. In every case, the standard deviation was greater than the difference, so statistically, there's nothing in it.

I have no interest whatsoever in any TM irons. But, as a golf equipment nerd these videos are fun to watch and learn. But the release timing from TM is a head scratcher. Seems like the previous model may not have sold very well? But man golf clubs are so expensive now. Thx Rick, good review bud…

He’s technically right, the last P770 did launch in January of 2023. But this was only due to inventory concerns as it was supposed to launch in late 2022.

770 embargo dropped in Nov 22 due to a delay in components and then released for sale in the first week of Jan 23.
These aren’t released until September. Talking 3 months from a usual 2 year cycle here.

It's hard to imagine that a company that started out selling a $79 wood made in the United States out of American steel, would now be the same company that pushes $2,000 sets of irons onto the public made in China that they probably pay about $100 for that set total. A company that was founded on an idea that was actually to make a more durable golf club which would ultimately be more economical than a persimmon wood with better performance. But now we have a company that simply only cares about keeping its prices as high as it possibly can. That's why it constantly releases new clubs because if they were to continue in the market with the same club there would be no justification for their extremely high ridiculous prices for their chinese-made product.
